Effective May 1st, 2016, Texas residents will no longer be allowed to play paid games. This is certainly a difficult pill to swallow. This was the email that I received:

    Dear Texas Fans:

We have some important news to share regarding our contests for users in Texas. As you may know, fantasy sports was founded in Texas more than four decades ago. In 2009, FanDuel was formed at Austin’s SXSW Interactive Festival, paving the way for millions of sports fans to play fantasy in a whole new way. We are proud of the business we’ve built and our ability to innovate fantasy sports and create a new product that fans love.

We believe FanDuel has always been legal in Texas and strongly disagree with the recent advisory opinion of the Attorney General, but understand that the laws surrounding fantasy sports require clarity. As such, we have worked with the Texas Attorney General to map out our plan to wind down our operations in Texas, suspending paid contests on May 1st. The Texas legislature will be in session in 2017 and we will work to pass legislation that protects fantasy sports and consumers so that we can bring our paid contests back to Texans as soon as possible.

    In the meantime:

    - Users will still be able to participate in free head to head challenges and leagues after May 1st.

    - As has always been the case, users in Texas can withdraw their funds at anytime. Users can also play FanDuel when visiting other states in which FanDuel continues to operate paid-contests.

Please follow us at www.FantasySportsForAll.com and let your lawmakers know that you support fantasy sports. We have more than 20+ bills in state legislatures across the country that safeguard fantasy sports and provide consumer protections. It is our intent to work with the Texas legislature to pass a similar bill in 2017, when back in session. Your support will help ensure that all fantasy companies are able to continue to operate in Texas.

    Thank you for your support,

    FanDuel

It was fun while it lasted. Fully withdrawing. In the black for money. Entertainment value was infinite.

Thanks for the great community RG. Hopefully, we’ll be back in the future.

Never thought I would say this, but good thing I live literally 5 minutes away from Oklahoma!

  • badtouch

Pretty sucky. Looks like it’s time for me to find something else to do with my time.

Catfish, you’ve got a great story to tell to your representatives – you can no longer enjoy the hobby that you’ve enjoyed responsibly in the privacy of your own home for years. That should resonate, especially in Texas.

All of you guys that can no longer play please stay active with your representatives!

Wonder if Draftkings will soon follow? Glad I’m moving out of Texas in June. What a joke.

This truly blows!!! I’m gonna have to find a new hobby I guess and I have no idea what!! Man this blowwssssssss!!!

  • Aalbanese102089

It’s absolute bullshit. This scumbag is being charged with security fraud, but he is going to tell us how to spend our money? Yeah ok, I’m hope he’s found guilty and gets the Jared Fogle treatment in jail. You know what happens if I’m being charged with security fraud? I probably lose my job, and I’m not even important. This douche is the AG, the AG for a state!!

  • ballabal

This really sucks! I was just getting into this DFS stuff. Another thing wrong with Texas. I wish I could get the heck out of here. the politics of this place is really getting weird. Talk about big government getting in your face. Is Draft Kings also suspending paid games in Texas?

Guess I will have to go back to trading options again – which is much riskier.

Unreal – was not expecting this to go down like this. Ken Paxton is such a piece of work. Crushing for a lifelong Texas like myself

Hopefully DK fights this POS. Wow, extremes of both political parties being POSes and coming together! A Librual New York Yankee and Right Winged God Fearin Texan on the same page. Who’d a thought? Is there a moderate Left-Libertarian party to join out there?

Ken Paxton is a POS. Indicted for some felony offenses but hey as long as its not enjoying fantasy sports I guess it is ok.

I have zero confidence the Texas legislature is going to fix this in the 2017 session, they aren’t real quick about doing anything you know that isn’t driven by big bucks from insurance companies or big companies. The Texas legislature has been a Republican super-majority since Bush was governor, we aren’t getting any help from them.

I was actually most confident in the Texas legislature never doing anything and with the advisory opinion from Paxton we would just be in an indefinite period of status quo. Guess I was wrong about that one.

Yep, that was my admittedly non-lawyer take as well. I felt better about Texas than a lot of these other states on the hot seat. Now I don’t know what to think.

I felt the same way and the email sort of blind sided me. I know I’m in the minority, but if other sites follow, I’ll be forced to move.

This sucks!! I am not a huge volume player but I look forward to this every Saturday, I love playing DFS CFB! I had planned on increasing my volume this year too! wtf…

  • rebkell

The legislature will be in session in 2017, I’m naive on the politics, but they aren’t even in session for another year? It’s funny how it takes a what seems like a decade to get legislation passed, but one person can just shut down things practically overnight.

  • Cjf99b

I was confident nothing would happen until at least 2017 and by then I was hoping things would have been worked out. This is unbelievable. I am so mad right now.

Paxton is also in trouble for securities fraud.

    DK better fight this shit.
