Drive the Green is back and Golf’s $100 January Jam is taking place this weekend. NO FOOTBALL!!! Let’s get a good conversation going this week.
Jason Day looking to defend hasn’t finished outside the top 12 in a tournament since June. Pricing seems a little softer. Who do we like, what stats are we looking at, does the change to Poa Annua greens three years ago effect your use of course history?
I challenge the RG community to get 5 good pages before the first group tees off Thursday!
It’s nice to finally get back to tournaments like these with deeper lineups.

While it looks a little softer on the top end, 6,200 being the lowest price is actually much higher than previous weeks.
Good point GIbb. Didn’t really look too hard and saw the softness up top.
Finally some solid contests on DK.
Really enjoying PGA on DK so far! Did fair in the career builder keeping Dufner and Lovemark in most all of my lineups.
I really like Lovemark this week and even wrote that I thought he could win this week in my first blog post (nailed Kisner at RSM). But, I watched most of the final round Sunday and he was all over the place. Also don’t know if he has the stamina to get four top 10s in a row. What’s everyone’s thoughts on Lovemark?
All I know is I’m playing day in every lineup basically. Have a nice day!!
Watching Lovemark on Sunday was painful. He looked tired out there and was basically all over the place. He fits Torrey Pines pretty well but I don’t know if I can trust him after watching on Sunday. Does anyone think the guys that played in Abu Dhabi will be fatigued with all the travel? I don’t know if it will effect guys like Fowler even though he loves this course..
He’ll be fine. He’s 27 years old.
TERRIBLE pricing. 95% of the guys below 7K are unplayable, and unless you want Day and DJ you can just take 1 top guy and load up on all the Par 5 killers between 7K and 8.5K.
si woo kim way too cheap
Robert streb recency bias price drop.
Smylie, Keegan, and Charlie Hoffman are all pretty cheap
Also missing a -9 cut caused some to drop like Finau and streb
I think Fowler is the only guy doing both. Travel always throws me off. I was avoiding travel at the British Open and a lot of the guys at the top of the leaderboard played and made the cut at the John Deere the week before. Couldn’t get a good read on President’s Cup to Frys because not a lot of guys played both. I think Fowler will be fine, but wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t finish near the top. Would definitely rather find $400 and take Day, but like Rickie in GPPs. If you couldn’t tell from my avatar they are two of my favorite golfers.
My gut reaction was that there are some old-fashioned inefficiencies this week (Smylie? I mean I’m not a Smylie Honk by any means, well actually I am, but, it’s complicated … but expect him to be an outlier high-owned after he paid off for so many people last week and is at an even lower price this week) …
Not just some inefficiencies but overall, they’re playing with the anchors I believe. Like Gibb pointed out the bottom is a little higher. But the top also … I mean it was recently we had a guy who was like under 10% chance to win the tournament priced for over $12,000
Having Day in the low $12k’s and starting it there feels a little better. Hard to eat 20% of your cap on somebody who isn’t a massive favorite though IMO. Lotta talent out here under $8,000 as others have noted … almost too much … we’ll see!
Me 2.
Any love for Ryan Ruffels this week? Won the Junior Worlds on this course and beat Mickelson for $5,000. Don’t think he’ll be one of the bottom 50 this week but could he be the one I miss out on?
Completely new to golf, but have cashed my first two weeks, 2 lineups a week, cashed $6 and $7, but what are some websites you guys use to research PGA? I only use this forum and the Foursome that Van Zuiden posts..

Gotta have bombers here to win. My hometown course, really wish I could get out there this weekend.
Smiley is this year’s streb. Will prob be 30% owned this week but if you don’t have him you are taking a big risk. I’m gonna ride it as long as dk keeps him low priced.
Lovemark is the hottest guy on earth and went to Torrey Pines high school. He’s probably played this course a zillion times. Will probably be 30% owned as well.
I’m just going with them and trying to differentiate elsewhere.
Driving Distance, Par 5 Scoring, efficiency from 175+, and SGP are things i’ll be looking at this weekend. Bombers seem to have a leg up on the competition, have to be able to score on the par 5s or it’s gonna be a long weekend.
Some cheap guys I like – Hudson Swafford
Morgan Hoffman
Matt Jones
Scott Stallings (pure course form. Last two years he has been 1st and T-2nd)
I think the best driving stat to look at this week is Total Bombing (Distance & Good Drive %)
I like Phil this week. He was driving great last week just needs to get the putter going. Hopefully he got that rust off last week after his long offseason.
Lovemark, Tony F and S.Kaughman, these three will be the most owned.
