    Hello Grinders,

We are looking into revamping a few things with our NHL content for next season, and we want to get your feedback on some of our new ideas.

Please let us know what ideas you like best or would be most useful to your DFS game.

Feel free to comment on some or all of the topics below. John Britt (JMBWngFn) and myself will be monitoring this forum topic daily.

    - With our cash game and GPP articles, do you prefer a breakdown like it is now (with a player write-up per position, as well as other recommended plays at different price tiers – high, mid, value), or instead would you prefer a style where we explain how we got to those picks? In other words, the author’s thought process for narrowing down where he plans to attack tonight. As another option, there could be a position-by-position break down, with various options listed.
This would limit top plays per position, but give you a better idea of how too break down the slate, eliminate options or what teams to attack, all about the process.

    - On days we do not have a GrindersLive show (usually when there are only a few games), would you be interested in a podcast instead breaking down the games and top plays?

    - We already have Consensus Value Rankings, but would you also like to see an ‘Expert Survey’ like there is for RG NBA?

    - Our Top Line Stacks daily article focuses on the top lines for the top teams to attack for both cash and GPPs. Would it be more useful if we went with contrarian line stacks, or line stacks that may fly under the radar on the big tournament nights?

    - What NHL piece do you like best, or in other words, what is your go-to article?

    - How did you like the NHL slate summary during the NBA all-star break?

We look forward to hearing your feedback.

Would LOVE PODCASTS on days the daily show is off the air.

Jaywilly’s Tuesday/Thursday article is my “go-to” article when it comes to RG’s NHL incentives. I’d love it more often.

I enjoy all of the daily articles, though, including the H2H picks, GPP picks, and Top Stacks (and, though not an article, I check out the consensus value rankings routinely).

As for additions, I’d certainly read an expert survey. My two main requests for additions would be (1) adding NHL to DFS Alerts (it’s rare for there to be significant players out in the NHL, but I’d love to be able to use RG for NHL alerts and not have to go to other sites as often), and (2) updating the starting goalie on the Starting Lineups page more regularly. That page is typically updated long after DFO and LWL.

Thanks for all the work you, and the other contributors, put in.

I read Chris’ daily breakdown of his favorite players per position with mid-tier & value plays. Helps me round out my roster. I either add linemates to his favorite players at each position or I fill gaps in my lineup with his value plays. I’ve been winning consistently when referencing that piece of Rotoworld.

  • Cassalass7

The expert survey is great for nba, pga and nfl so I’d love to see an nhl version. I love the content you guys provide, but any extra insight is always welcome.

For the top line stacks, I like the idea of providing contrarian line stacks or narrowing them down a bit. Any reasonable player is doing their own research so they know what teams to target so sometimes I feel like you guys listing the top teams to target then saying all 2 or 3 lines are viable is kind of telling us what we should already know.

Adding an article discussing ownership projections would be cool if it’s possible to do. I know you probably can’t narrow it down like Gimino does for NBA but maybe some insight on what the highest owned goalies, line stacks or superstars would be cool.

Possibly articles once a week breaking down winning tournament lineups to help give insight on how to build winning lineups? I know I struggle with roster construction so any extra help there would be awesome and may even help attract more casual players who are overwhelmed by the amount of options there are on bigger slates.

Chris/Pepsi, I appreciate you taking the time to solicit the feedback.

Some initial comments, and I will try to give it some additional thoughts and will add more later if appropriate.

Let me start by saying my go-to article is the Advanced Stat piece each Tuesday by JayWilly. I think the RG readership is smarter each time they read his work. Even if it doesnt influence that nights slate – its great stuff and gets your mind thinking more correctly. Im sure they arent easy to write but Im greedy and would love to see his work more than once a week.

AS for the current write-ups, I think the cash game piece done by Max and others works well for cash, I like when the author taes the tie to list the Top Overall Play and yet his write up about somebody write below it. I mean, we know Bret Burns is a good play so tell us why someone else might be in a favorable spot. For cash – the consensus rankings is also important

I think the incentives package lacks in some areas on GPPS. (But I also think the general GPP offerings by DK and FanDuel are lacking except over A/S break). Telling us the Chalk line of the night isnt that helpful in isolation. Id like to see projected ownership come into play. I liked when it became art of the baseball content and think it is quite relevant for hockey. SO I am thinking Chalk Line of the night and the Contrarian Line(s) of the night.

Podcasts would be great. Really enjoyed JWill and Max earlier this week with Dan.

One thing that might be interesting on bigger nights, is a look back at the action. Some retrospective against the projections can bring great insight. Occasional lineup break down of the winner – some stuff like that.

I would love to see the expert survey started for NHL as well.

I would also like to see John Britt (JMBWngFn) writing some more incentive articles, as his few pieces really benefited me during the NBA break. I think this was the NHL summary piece.

It would be beneficial as well if maybe writers could try a few different styles and techniques and see how the RG community reacts to it.

If NHL is ever going to take off main and be bigger, I believe it starts with better and improving content from RG.

I also believe that if you are going be touting a sport, that you should have some sort of decent ranking in your RG profile. I noticed quite a few NHL experts with little to no rankings in their RG profile.

  • wolfpack8181

I would ask you have the starting goalies updated more speedy and accurately. Goalies are toughest to predict in rankings so maybe start with them. I Hope you don’t add all of your new content to live shows and or podcasts. I am an average player and have no time to watch or listen to these in any sport.
My time is best used to read your write-ups and rankings, then log onto daily face off for goalies and quickly check twitter for any info I missed. I will say Daily faceoff has some news beside each goalie that sometimes does help when its a toss up.
When that is all done I do my own projections and make my teams then.

Love the podcast idea, I appreciate any content. I would be more interested in the process as well rather than just lists of picks. Reliable ownership projections would be the most valuable.

Projected ownership is a kick ass feature in NBA, I wonder if it could be implemented in the NHL package?

Just like others have already mentioned JayWillys Tues/Thurs advanced stat write-up is excellent.

I would love to see something on how the author came up with his picks, i’m always looking for insight into successful thought process’, and sometimes I find myself wondering how/why the author ended up on some stacks/players

Chalk lines and Contrarian lines would be great too

Lastly ownership projections would be extremely helpful

    Hey Pepsi,

Thanks again for the Di Giuseppe & Lindell punt call. Enjoyed a nice evening!

Would absolutely love a podcast. That would be a really nice compliment to the GridersLive show. Would be a requirement for Pepsi to keep the “We Gone” theme going at the end of each pod. Can’t ever get enough NHL DFS video/podcast content!

I’m a huge fan of the Fanduel NHL plays column posted on Rotoworld everyday.

Also the Rotogrinders “Player Projections & “Starting Goalies” content under Research Tools is my go to source each day.

Two new additions I would find very helpful would be a top 5 goalie rankings each day for Cash & GPP along with your top bottom of barrel punt options at each position. The Rotoworld column offers “value” options which is great but as a big stars and scrubs guy it would be nice to see more dumpster dive punts listed somewhere.

You guys do an outstanding job! Appreciate all your hard work and hustle! Keep it up!

    Thanks,

Thought processes, podcast, expert survey. Would like info on line changes, 3rd/4th line sleepers. What matchups we can expect, like for example if a coach likes to matchups line vs line. Backup goalies skill level. Also tips on sweating, like how to tell who is who ;)

  • depaul202517

The content is already good…just tweak the ratings and the line pages.

Instead of rating bulk by C, W and D, offer ratings for “scrubs” or “grinders” that may be moving up in lineup not due to injury but performance. A 3rd liner getting a bump and playing in front of goalie on PP gets huge boost.

Also, lines are everything, including matchups with checking lines and their impact, i.e. Kessler at home vs top opponent scoring line. Make this and potential matchups more pronounced in your daily articles.

    Thanks!

  • uninc57

The projections page and download should be more like basketball. That would come in very handy. For whatever reason the nhl salaries are like 5.4K instead of 5400, its a major headache to go in and change for math and such. Just make all the projections pages identical. Minutes (even just average for the season or past 10 games) on the projections page would be handy in hockey as well.

As far as the articles and write ups they are pretty good, but I think a page with all recent call ups, send downs, and inactives (Camalleri as a healthy scratch for 2 games comes to mind) would be helpful as well.

I like what you guys did over the nba break that was very helpful.

I am NEW to NHL. Never ever thought i would play but started playing during the All-Star break and LOVE it. I know nothing about the game or the strategy behind it but i would like to see a expert survey and maybe on the NHL Grind Down have the totals for the game with the money lines. I would love to hear the experts thoughts on how they are reaching their picks why. Also the NHL alerts would be GREAT. Thanks for all the info you put out there.

  • Vpredators78

I would definitely like to see an expert survey. Maybe a Stars and scrubs rankings. I also agree with the others about updating the goalies quicker. Maybe a goalie ratings chart 1 out of 10 on a daily basis in the Grind down. I really enjoy all the NHL content.
