so this is my first post ever in a few years but I am legitimately bummed out about this
I knew it was only a matter of days with how the Casino industry has blown up in Pennsylvania.
anyone from Westmoreland County that can go give this guy a swift kick in the butt?

States with heavy casino presence are at risk. This is terrible.

Really PA, you have many more issues than this. RIght now your Attorney General is indicted for lying to a grand jury about porn emails sent between so called high ranking officials!

I live in the country bordering Westmoreland, I am pretty sure this is this county where Duckie and Rubble44 grew up!

As a PA resident I don’t like this. However I can say the state government gets involved they will win. When the casinos first came to Pittsburgh thy showed on the news the state ripping cherry machines out of local bars and crushing them. If they can’t have a cut they won’t lose. Sad day on its way… Guess I’ll have to change my residency.

Few things that work in our favor compared to NV:

    1. Our legislature can’t find its way out of a paper bag right now. This may not see the light of day out of committee because it legalized other online gambling.

    2. Nevada has no major sports teams. Pennsylvania has all 4 major sports.

    3. Casinos are the only game in Nevada. Pennsylvania is largely owned by Comcast which owns Fanduel. Casinos are significant but don’t control the entire agenda.

That said, we need to get writing. Feel free to PM me for any ideas such as petitions or pre-filled letters to legislators.

This bill will take months to have an effect if anything.

… which is pretty much every state nowadays.

It really seems like the solution to this and for Nevada are for the sites to partner with the established casinos.

our legislature is a mess. I see it first hand everyday as I work a few blocks away from the capital and the local news is all over Kane and the Supreme Court porno Judge
But I am afraid that it will not take months, the vote is next Wednesday, the guy proposing the bill has the majority and it will be discussed at the same time they discuss the bill to legalize online gambling(which has had positive press so far)
I am hopeful that even if we are banned at some point next week all the points that you make will make it only temporary.

Still needs Gov signature. Bipartisan bickering may save us here.

hopefully the lobbyists put enough money into pockets. as soon as I saw the Nevada ruling i knew this archaic state would jump on it too

I agree here on all 3. Not sure of the overall impact they have on this, but definitely valid points.

Still a long process. Committee -> House -> Senate -> Governor. With our state it won’t happen that quick. Look at our budget battles.

  • paulmsr

yea so many major companies are part owners of these 2 sites that i’m sure once the lobbyists get involved they can get it saved. FOX, Comcast, Google and so on

only plus DFS has compared to the death of poker is that the biggest companies in this country are involved with large investments. and we all know those companies make the decisions for the government

Which is why I’m sure Comcast lobbyists are all over this. Like I said the casinos are chump change compared to Comcast and the major sports leagues.

For these any many reasons, I would not panic just yet. Still haven’t seen an actual bill and it could just be PA may require licensing and give the sites some time to apply after the bill gets passed. The end product may not be too bad but we shall see and this maybe an opportunity to have some input.

FD and DK may have to partner with Parx, Valley Forge, etc.
