so this is my first post ever in a few years but I am legitimately bummed out about this
I knew it was only a matter of days with how the Casino industry has blown up in Pennsylvania.
anyone from Westmoreland County that can go give this guy a swift kick in the butt?

I also heard PA does not want to head in NY’s direction so that’s at least somewhat of a good sign.

That meeting was eerily amateurish and brief.

Any updates from the meeting today?

Received this email today from my Pa. representative, Marcia Hahn. A bit of encouraging news.

    Dear Mr. Toole:

Thank you for your email regarding House Bill 1197. I appreciate you taking the time to contact me and share your thoughts.

House Bill 1197 is currently assigned to the Gaming Oversight Committee. I am no longer a member of that committee, but I did speak with Rep. Dunbar who is the prime sponsor of the legislation. He said the intent of his legislation is not to shut down your ability to play daily fantasy sports (DFS) but instead to preserve and protect it. The similarities between the DFS explosion and internet poker are very similar. Both are games of skill, not luck and both saw explosive growth while being completely unregulated. Make no mistake, DFS is legal, but its legality is truly on shaky ground. The exemption it has survived on is a somewhat loose interpretation of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA). Even the congressman who wrote the act recently stated it was not the intent of the legislation to make DFS legal. Especially with recent news of insider trading, if left unregulated it will just be a matter of time until DFS receives the same fate as internet poker.

So with that in mind Rep. Dunbar’s legislation will protect the consumers of DFS and provide the industry with true legal standing, not just the shaky interpretation of UIGEA. In order to accomplish this he is proposing all DFS contests to originate through one of our licensed casino’s websites (these are yet to be formed). The hope here is that the industry leaders (Draft kings and Fanduel) will enter into partnership agreements with our casinos. For a DFS player like yourself very little will change. As opposed to logging into Fanduels or Draftkings you would instead go to the proposed casinos website where a link to their partnered DFS site will be provided.

Rep. Dunbar has reached out to Draft Kings and Fanduel to allow them to have input into the process as well. Although if this legislation moves forward they will have to share some proceeds with our casinos. And they will be provided solid legal standing to operate in PA.

All of this is in the early discussion stages. There are many variables still to be established. I want to assure you that I will keep your comments in mind if we get the opportunity to vote on this bill on the House Floor. You can follow the progress of this or any legislation at the following link:

In the meantime if you have additional concerns you would like to share or I can assist you on another state-related matter, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    Marcia M. Hahn,
    State Representative
    138th Legislative District

Is that a joke? Casino’s need there share or you can’t have DFS? Incredible!

if there is no regulation it will be outlawed. We cant have it both ways unfortunately i think this is the only way to continue to play. It sucks but it looks like its happening.

The “very little” that will change: double or triple rake after the casinos and the state take their cut

Anything new in the last few weeks?

It seems like we will be able to finish out the NFL season, but I haven’t heard a peep on this since last month.

    Does anyone know the latest?

The last I saw was they are tabling it till spring time….Not trying to include the online gambling bill with the budget so….few more months of wait and see.
