Im not here to argue guys, Im just offering some insight. When it comes to anything gambling in this state, Penn National tells them what to do. I would be willing to bet, a Penn National exec is called upon to consult as to whether it is gambling or not. They wont even consider the other casinos, Hollywood casino drives a lot of the economy in the states broke capitol city, just look at the amount in fines that casino pays a month for not paying out the correct return percentage on slots. I hope they don’t ban it, however, I would say its about a done deal and will be pushed through in a very short amount of time.

Penn National is a multi state gaming entity, not just one. So all the states that contain one of their casinos or other gambling entities, which include PA, Florida, Illinois, Nevada(see a pattern here) Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas and West Vriginia are most likely going to see state regulation of some sort. In the gambling industry, this company has a hell of a lot more power than Comcast.

this is the 2nd attempt by PA to introduce a bill they tried back in May..

  • paulmsr

i dont think PA would be dead next week, it sounds like the bill is just being introduced and in this state it takes forever to pass shit

Texas will probably do something. I work in the horse race business and we’ve tried to get Historical Racing Machines and we also had Twinspires (Internet horse betting, allowed in most states). The AG filed suit against Twinspires to shut down and the HRM were voted through by the Racing Commission. The Republican Leaders then shut down racing in our state affecting 30,000 jobs unless the Commission withdrew their support for the HRM. We are under a 30 day stay right now allowing still to operate. What does this have to do with DFS? All 15 Republican Leaders who signed a letter wanting to restrict new forms of wagering are also the highest recipients of Inidain Casino money and out of State Casino money. They hold the majority and are strongly against any new form of gambling or wagering in the State of Texas even though Texans gamble 2.5 Billion at the 3 neighboring State’s casinos.

Personally, I took out enough to buy a new golf club I had my eye on. I don’t have a lot in there, I learned my lesson with the poker fiasco, but everything I have left is getting played, and I will be on the sideline watching what happens the next few weeks. I really think this is going to get interesting, with the FBI involved and states banning it, I honestly cant see any good coming of this. These sites brought this on themselves. My wife doesn’t play but cant stand it, due to all the commercials on every channel and on Sirius radio on every non-music channel. Every state is going to take a long hard look at this, especially if there is brick and mortar gambling establishments crying foul, due to lost revenue. I am now seeing class action lawsuits being filed also. This is going to get real ugly.

Texas is filled with right wing religious nutjob politicians who would love nothing more than to protect the children from the sin of gambling. That state is in more danger than almost any other.

The good news for PA players is the state legislature and Tom Wolf can’t agree on anything. Even if the bill got out of committee we’d still be a long way off from a ban. It’s not clear if Wolf would even support a ban. He’s a businessman not a politican. For a liberal he is very pro business. I wouldn’t be too concerned just yet.

    Does this effect Pittsburgh?

Penn National controls a lot in this state, they will have the final say. There are current and former employees of Penn National in the PA Capitol. I said PA wouldn’t be too far away in the Nevada thread yesterday, my wife is a reporter in the Harrisburg area that covers state government affairs. Penn National has been crying poor over DFS since last year, this so called scandal was just the icing on the cake for them. Also, deep inside the law that was passed to allow casinos, is a non compete agreement with them, that’s why it is so hard just to obtain a temporary small games of chance license now in PA. Hell Penn National owns, insures and leases a lot of the state buildings to Pennsylvania through different entities, Comcast doesn’t have that kind of power. Also, the only sports team that capitol cares about is Penn State.

Does your wife write for the patriot news and pennlive? I did not see that they picked up the story yet. Do she have any insight if they will be covering this?
