Having Drew Dinkmeyer on this lawsuit is probably the most absurd thing I have seen to date.

Any veteran of these forums could name at least a dozen players that have actually done something predatory. Dink is the opposite end of the opposite end of the spectrum.

When you lump the good people in with the bad it kills me inside. Why not out the “shady” players in dfs? In this instance I feel a truly good man is being accused of something he did not do because the community refuses to call out the real predators. How long will the line hold?

Agree but Dink is likely on the suit to provide a contrast between the behavior of some and to show how some were favored. There will be more supoenas as this proceeds.

Would have been nice if as requested, the Big Boy Sites had routinely offered Drafts for some of us Minnows, and separate games down in the deep end for Sharks that want to employ programs, scripting, unlimited lineups, etc. Of course, this would have Eliminated the vicious gorging that occurs on a daily basis in DFS. Every time someone new arrives to play DFS, I am reminded of the scene in “The Shawshank Redemption” where Tim Robbins does his long walk into the prison. The DFS Sharks are watching and waiting. “He didn’t make a sound”.

This is where my months old argument of there being different levels and ranks comes into play. Newbs play newbs. Once you win a certain amount of games, you move up a level. Win more, move up more. But nobody bought my argument of the sharks won’t play just the sharks.

Single A ballclubs don’t play AAA teams right? But if you brought your Single A team to a game and realized they were AAA players you’d probably just quit and go home, right? But it’s nobody’s fault but your own if you didn’t size up the opponents first. Would you open up a pizza joint if you knew the neighborhood was full of them already? Probably not. Or you may just say screw it and try anyway.

I read these forums, I follow these players, I know what I’m up against. I know there’s sharks. I continue to play anyway because I don’t care what they do, I’m still going to do the best I can and wait for the day where I JUST FRIGGING BEAT THEM! I won’t even need the money, I just want the pride to be able to say I beat the best with my 1 freaking lineup. Scripts be damned!

  • Wombat

For the sake of DFS it’s much better to be Drew DInkmeyer testifying than someone who is actually guilty of what they are accusing. I mean what happens if he goes to testify?

“Mr. Dinkmeyer, did you use illegal scripts, spiders, (all the other crap they have listed in the report) to prey on novice players?”

    “No.”

“Oh. Ok then, that will be all.”

The sites and top players were/are SOOOO GREEDY, just get rid of the damn scripting

says a top player who works for a site that sells access to a scripting tool.

Unless you’re talking about H2H scooping. That I get. Easily avoidable. But I get it.

  • Putz

    @tonytone1908 said...

Then when it doesn’t work correctly you just set yourself up for all kinds of issues and complaints.

“I would have won but the script didn’t work so I couldn’t make any lineups at all. I can’t believe they expected me to do it on my own.”

No, it is part of normal site operations, not a script.

  • actingnurse

    gotcha. Makes more sense now.

  • rsigler65

I still maintain that the word “script” has been and remains very ambiguous — lineup entering vs. lineup editing, vs. scooping, vs. lineup optimization vs. data scraping vs. who knows what else. Whenever anyone says the word ‘scripting’ anymore, I feel like I (and probably they) have no idea what they even mean. Seems like a buzzword now without being clearly defined or understood.

I think this is where people are having a hard time understanding me. I’m going to have to start each post with, this is for cash, or this is for GPP lol

add in people talking about “level playing field” and I forget some are adding the leaks into that mix. ugh

I have often said this but I would LOVE to see how good these “pros” like max etc are, if they had only one bullet to fire like most of us do. I would be willing to wager alot that they would get their asses handed to them more often then not, and they know it, hence the need for scripts etc. I’d love to see a set up where one regular DFSer with a small bankroll want mano y mano against say max or another top guy, for a week, no use of ANY info whatsoever, just based off pure knowledge of the sport is all you could use. Hell, based on that, you would eliminate alot of DFSers altogether. That’s my biggest issue with DFS is it’s a numbers game NOT a sports knowledge game, and quite honestly that puts people who know sports like the back of their hand(like me for the most part) at a disadvantage. Playing against scripts I will lose every single time, but if it were a game of pure sports knoweldge, players talents etc I’d like to think I’d hold my own a vast majority of the time. People that have little knowledge of sports but know how to create scripts etc to basically do the work for them should NOT be winning big amounts of $$, yet they are the ones that do. Is it called fantasy sports or fantasy numbers??

“Daily fantasy sports companies have grown so rapidly that they’ve outstripped the few existing laws designed to police them. Federal law prohibits sports gambling in all forms in all but four states – Nevada, Montana, Oregon and Delaware. By most logical measures, daily fantasy sports games are a form of sports betting. Users wager actual money on the real-life performance of professional athletes, with cash prizes of up to $1 million up for grabs.”

With multiple legal challenges brewing on the state level, federal legislation on the subject seems inevitable. Formal oversight and regulation of the daily fantasy sports industry could be months, not years, away, H. Brian Holland, a professor of law at Texas A&M University, said.

Ironically, federal regulation would benefit companies like FanDuel and DraftKings. The alternative — restrictions on daily fantasy sports that vary dramatically from state to state — would make doing business nearly impossible.

“Imagine trying to run a business that’s valued at $1 billion when you’re illegal in half the states and legal in half the other states. It’s just going to be impossible. I think the federal solution is really the only solution for DraftKings and Fan Duel,” Holland said.

He said federal officials will likely formally legalize the industry, so long as it submits to strict regulation and oversight. Consumer interests would be protected and DFS companies would avoid their financial logjam.

“There will be reforms,” Wallach said. “Fantasy sports will be legal, it will be clarified, but it will also be regulated.”

Well Nevada’s case against DFS starts out with a quote from AMA on reddit. That was done 3 years ago I believe,

The quote is “ The concept is almost identical to a casino.. specifically Poker. We make money when people win pots”.

Far as I know you can’t edit using a script. The scripting is just for original entries into contests which one would normally have to do well before start time (because most fill).
The scripting is great and time effective to enter LUs into contests, but to edit your teams you’ll just have that many more to deal with in the last few mins. Seems like the quick player replace on FD is the only option one can use.
    This from FD page
Under no circumstances will we grant permission to:
    -automate editing of lineups.
    -automate cancellation of entries.

There is too much money to be made by the leagues. They will never let this go away. Especially with so many of them having investments in it. It sucks that states are starting to drop one by one but I’m pretty sure DFS is not going anywhere. Why else would we watch a Nuggets-Knicks game on a Tuesday night? Just think of they advertising dollars they would lose?
