I don’t think we can sustain a thread for each slate, but lets chat in general.

Starting with the 09/05 EPL slate.

    Watch out for Belgium.

Hope they do some multigame slates.

The first Saturday with four games should be fun.

World Cup opening GPP is massive. Can’t wait!

  • Fightingfowler

Hopefully the interest is there to sustain some big $$$ gpp’s throughout, overlay on the first day will be devastating i think, but we will see…

Time to start studying up on the rosters of Morocco and Iran, haha. But Egypt (Salah) vs Uruguay (Suarez/Cavani) should be interesting and then capped off by Portugal vs Spain.

Wish the opening GPP was not so top heavy. $30k to first and $1k to 10th is not ideal. But I am happy to see such a big contest for soccer regardless. I wish the World Cup allowed for 6-8 game slates but DraftKings will never do it (over multiple days). Even for the 4 games on Saturday I am guessing they will cut the 6 AM game. But 3 game slates every day for the World Cup will still be a lot of fun.

3 game slates are the sweet spot for me. Can’t wait!

This is the biggest GPP in DK soccer history right?

  • JH822547

Yeah by a mile, seems pretty ambitious.

US Open starts same day as The World Cup so I’m going to be in heaven.

Hopefully in the final group games week, where the games are played in pairs 1500 & 1900 (UK time), they keep it a full slate, would be a lot more interesting and tactical. I’m guessing the time in between is just a little too long so they’ll be 2 game slates though….we will see.

I would really hope not. That would be completely foolish. The 3 game slates every day are going to have games at 8, 11 and 2. So there is a 6 hour gap between the first and last game. So the 4 group games per day should absolutely all be on the same slate.

I think the World Cup is a different animal as well because for the most part, lineups are not changing much. Teams may make a tactical switch or two each game, but nothing crazy. Now I guess those final group games COULD see some different lineups if teams have already clinched (or been eliminated), but a lot of times at least a battle for 1st and 2nd in the group is on the line, which can be important to avoid some of the top teams right away in the Knockout round.

I also think building lineups with possible pivots in mind when lineups come out for the later games is great for game play. DFS soccer has late swap so there really should not be a huge issue. It’s why I always argued 4 game slates over 2 days in the UCL was so much better than 2 game slates each day.

    Who is 100%er for tonight.

Robertson seems cheap, if Madrid get in front that could be the value.

  • KindGuy

Good luck to those of you playing the showdown slate. Personally, I just can’t see myself doing soccer showdown with how much goals and assists are worth. If you don’t have one player who goes off, you probably don’t cash. Unless you have the bankroll to enter a lot of combos, it’s a losing proposition imo. Obviously, I don’t. Will stick to MLS until the World Cup comes!

I did four line ups and put Bale in two, but not the one with Marcelo, Benzema and Mane. Still came 39th out of about 4000

  • gvn2fly1421

The guy won the $4 on FD with Bale and Llorente (Plays for Madrid and wasn’t even on the team today). So two of his 5 players didn’t start and one probably wasn’t in the stadium. I get Bale cause I threw him in one, but there is 0 fucking skill in these one game slates. Zilch.

    Game of skill…

Actually, January 31 2017 had a game with 11k entries :). But it was only a $3 entry fee, so a much smaller prize pool. Anyways, it’s at least the biggest in a while.

I ended up doing 10 lineups and originally had Bale in 3 of them. I saw the lineups come out and Bale was not starting. Unfortunately I was not at a computer and just quickly made the switch to Benzema or Isco (with another pivot somewhere else) on my phone because replacing a guy who is not starting seems second nature.

In hindsight, playing Bale was probably a good game theory play at tiny ownership. These Showdown contests are almost always going to be won by goals (and assists). Bale was almost 100% to come on at some point in the 2nd half. One goal and he becomes a great play and could win you a GPP. 2 goals and he does win you a GPP. I guess my fear was I expected 3+ goals in the game on Saturday so I wanted to the best chance to get them with guys playing 75+ minutes (ideally 90 minutes). Also these contests weren’t super huge so I didn’t lean towards that type of leverage play with Bale. But it worked out for those that did.

I don’t like Showdown contests (although they make sense for true 1 game slates like the UCL Final) but it’s clear the best way to play them (assuming a large number of entries) is to either max enter them, fade a very highly owned player or find someone really low owned with upside. Bale fit the latter.

Are there any sites that are hosting bracket pools for the World Cup? I hosted a league on ESPN 4 years ago, but they don’t seem to have one now, just a game predictor tourney of some sort?
