Star studded field, strongest outside of the majors and the players. Decent contests, but DK could have gone a little bigger considering the field.

COURSE: Riviera Country Club, 7,322 yards, par 71. From the days when Douglas Fairbanks and Charlie Chaplin graced its fairways, Riviera has commanded its own star power since first opening its doors in 1927. Designer George Thomas pored over 15 possible layouts before settling on one that now features some of the TOUR’s most iconic holes. The par-3 sixth is famed for its bunker in the middle of the green, and No.10 is widely considered the best drivable par-4 in golf. The Los Angeles Open first arrived in 1929, and Ben Hogan’s three wins in an 18-month span – two L.A. Opens and the 1948 U.S. Open – earned Riviera the nickname “Hogan’s Alley.” This summer, the U.S. Amateur arrives for the first time.

Last years winner: Bubba Watson -14

Cut last year was even par.

I have a little experiment going this week.
I have been on a losing streak since I purchased a service provider. While I like the bells and whistles, I think my handicapping suffered. I think that using rankings to make picks is not for me. I seemed to pick hi salary and ownership players that didnt make the cut.

So This is a list of 7 players that I did not pick to use this week. I would have picked them using the models from the paid service but not with my original handicapping method. Lets see if I make money this week and how many of these guys make the weekend.

    Justin Thomas
    Paul Casey
    Justin Rose
    Bill Haas
    Shane Lowry
    Phil Mickelson
    Francesco Molinari
    Charles Howell

    Playing cash or GPPs?

    I love max LU GPP,
bankroll puts me in quarter arcade (50 LU’s), with 3 LU’s that would be used in cash game situation.

I love Lowry and Molinari in GPPs just because they are great pivots from Phil. If Justin Thomas was 10k or higher he would be a lot more interesting to me. I like Rose, but I am not sure what his ownership % will be.

Molinari was a late scratch for me, but I agree he looks very tempting for GPP.
I think Phil will get ownership just because he’s phil.. but sharper folks will be off him after his last two Sundays.
I think Rose will be 15% or so in GPP but much higher in cash, but with good reason.

I am just going to go ahead and say that Friday there will be no golf… Early tee times Sat. to get as much golf in as possible really seeing this one going to Monday

Rose will be between 14-19% owned

I feel like I can’t even play cash. Most people will be picking from the same 15-20 golfers. It is going to be like a MMA slate but with less disparity between scoring.

As terrible as the pricing is, it does make it somewhat interesting for GPPs. There are some guys that are going to be so overlooked because of the soft pricing on the majority of the field.

Quick question for you max entry guy

sending you a PM, will arrive shortly

  • Frustrated

Well this is tough. The afternoon/morning grouping might be the better but majority of the guys I like are playing in the morning/afternoon wave. Fucking weather and not knowing what the PGA will do is a pain in the ass.

  • km19shel

On Thursday, Pacific Palisades, CA has just about 0mph wind from about 6am-10am, and gets up to about 7-8mph later in the day. Not really going to make much of an impact, but still flags might be better for a course with small greens.

For Friday, it depends on how much water the course has taken by 6:40am. Winds will be around 15mph early on, and if the course is holding water well, there is an outside shot that they will try and start Round 2, which would be a HUGE disadvantage to the Thursday PM/Friday AM groups. Play will be suspended no matter what, but it is all going to depend on if they get guys out Friday morning for a period of time.

I am playing it safe and just playing Thursday AM / Friday PM guys, as there is plenty of firepower in that half of the field anyways. Just looking at weather alone, I am OK with leaving Spieth and Matsuyama on the shelf, even though it is a huge gamble.

Interesting little read about DK pricing. Reflects a lot of what has been said in these forums.

Rumor has it the tournament might be cancelled altogether due to severity of the rain fall and hazard of sliding land. Not sure how much I believe this but 5 inches of rain can have a severe impact on a golf course. Might have to limit entries this week.

Full refund if the tourney is cancelled.

Good article just further proves that DK tampering with their pricing has actually hurt their product and making cash games stupid to play. When 80% of the players from cash games come from 10 players that means the people pricing the players are just incompetent.

Where are you hearing this rumor? Someone said something earlier in the week on this forum. Is that the rumor?

  • Jamcclea

They better not cancel this shit. I’m locked, loaded and feeling good about my LU.

Hadwin was around 22-24% last week at $7,300 .. now he drops down to $6,600.

Lowry was mispriced last week and he hit almost 40% in some GPP’s.
Swafford Furyk and Finau will soak up a little ownership down there, but with Course History and recent play, I think 30% might be low-balling it.

Big $3 birdie there were only 3 guys over 30% last week, and Lowry was not one of them (Rose 40, Phil 32, Reed 30, Lowry 28). Now there is even more value down around 7k (Holmes, Koepka, Steele, Furyk, Hadwin, Swafford) that most people won’t need to play more than two of those guys. There’s only so much ownership to go around down there so even though the price egregiously low, there isn’t one guy that everyone will lock in.

If you say something like this you need to site a source.

I questioned yesterday if they were even going to play at all. That was just a question

Only one I disagree with his Casey. Haas has decent history here but he also flames out here as well. I always seem to miss on Haas but I will throw in a lineup or two this week due to winning here before.
