Datagolf data suggests that DJ looks ready to pop over the weekend

Well that’s good he was my pick to win. It’ll help all my tournament teams. I’m currently still not cashing in my double ups with a 5/6 but I’m hoping that changes over the weekend.

Yea no doubt I had 2 Presidents Cup players who all missed the cut in my pool in Im, Niemann, and a third in Conners who was an edge candidate. The only reason I had them is because they were cheap relative to their Presidents Cup status so I’ll admit that. The other Presidents Cup guys did ok though like Hadwin was a cheap pick who made it.

I’m not really as advanced as you guys since I only normally play in the Majors and big tournaments in the past. I tried this week because it was a huge payout structure paying 200k to first and also I’m going to the tournament this Sunday. Thus that’s why my picks may seem kind of simple like just picking Presidents Cup members. I’m sure I’ll get better and more knowledgeable as I play more. I just had to find something else to sweat on the weekends now NFL is over and I don’t play NBA.

You forgot CT Pan and Cam Smith who MCd as well as American team player JT

Jason Day also MCd today and had qualified for the Prez Cup on points and backed out bc of a back injury

Cantlay will probably underwhelm all weekend and somehow finish 7th. I’m heavy on him but that’s kinda what he does

Oh sorry yes I didn’t choose them. I guess I got lucky I didn’t have them in my pool as those 3 were the ones I had along with all those 8-9k guys who barely made it (Hideki, Xander, DJ, Cantlay, and 1 Brooks Line-Up). Cam Smith looked incredibly expensive so I didn’t choose him or Ancer. I didn’t even consider Pan since I did he sees struggles recently.

Is Strokes Gained something that’s very relevant in what you guys use?

I noticed all my golfers had terrible Strokes Gained putting. Like Hideki, Xander, Im, and Conners had very bad putting stats.

However isn’t putting part of the game too? Why is it if putting is bad it’s more bad luck?

I do feel like these greens were unplayable at certain times given so many misses though. Is that where the luck comes in?

By decomposing a golfer’s performance into different parts of their game, you can better find a player’s course fit against what typically is needed at a specific course/layout.

For example, One of the stats for this week that made sense was when people looked for players who perform well from 175-200 yard approaches as the numerous long par fours and the short par 5 #1 usually leave approaches from that yardage range.

I don’t really look at the data beforehand and prefer using more of an eye test as I watch and re-watch a lot of golf supplemented by looking at a lot of hole by hole stats after the fact. I personally don’t like large sample averages and generalizations so prefer to look at each round individually but most serious DFS’ers rely on this data a lot.

So who are the top plays for SD and Weekend besides DJ?

  • Steverino01

Split tees tomorrow, threesomes. First groups tee off at 8:05 AM PT and last group tees off at 10:00 AM PT. All the -1 guys from Burns to The Death Train tee off first.

I’m building around Rory, DJ and Morikawa but I’m biased.

I knew I would get home to find out that Im bogied the last hole to kill my only chance at 6/6

Starting to think about next week already and saw this for the WGC in Mexico from a Ryan Lavner

No Tiger next week in Mexico. Officially.
Also skipping: Brooks, Cantlay, Rickie, Rose, J-Day, Stenson.

Spieth is playing, committed at 11th hour to play his 5th event in a row after saying publicly he might skip it

Well so much for being good at 120 fields … not looking like a good week unless there is a major shakeup tomorrow. Under the avg by a little bit on 6/6 but the ones I have are not looking great. Back to the drawing board. GL everyone else with some hope for this weekend.

I had Tiger penciled in for my OAD (don’t think he’ll win a major this year), so I’ll have to look into somebody else now who I won’t need later on. With all of them skipping, shouldn’t be a problem finding someone.

Weekend golf. Who’s got a run in them?

DJ owns WGC’s and that course in Mexico City – he should be your OAD

I think I’m going to look at that Bubba bogey, the Niemann bogey, the Mats birdie, and the CH III birdie quite a bit this year. Four holes changed the entire course of this contest. Had there been four pars on this hole I would have been in line for an epic takedown of the Minimax and would have had a ton of really strong 6/6, even with JT crapping the bed. Instead the entire complexion has changed. It doesn’t often hang on four holes like that, but it did this week. Like four strokes in an entire field.

  • titanhawks

Ended up with one 6/6 and two 5/6; one thanks to Bubba and one via JT or TJ so hopefully I can at least get my money back

Unfortunately and yet again my worst LU is in the Happy Meal so hoping for a couple points there anyhow

Sorry to hear that, man. I’ve been in that boat before. Such a fine line between having it nailed and having it all fall apart. No amount of CH, RF, stat views, or hunches can explain one hole for a golfer out of 36. Just stick to your process.

Three of eleven 6/6’s for me. Kevin Na took out 5 of ‘em. Nick Taylor, Sungae Im, Bubba Watson combined on the rest.

Yep. Had Bubba and Na in my Happy Meal, which was also one of my three FGD Listener entries. Another had Na and Fritelli. (Why so much Na Na Na Na? I keep asking myself now.) Anyways, at least my third FGD Listener is a 6/6. So I’m rooting for these guys:

    Patrick Cantlay
Xander Schauffele (lowest-scoring of the bunch, so far)
    Adam Scott
    John Bradley Holmes
    Max Homa
    Carlos Ortiz
