Anyone know if Illinois will be having a vote today?

  • inwhiterooms

Saw this tweet earlier: “Illinois DFS bill is still on the agenda for a committee hearing today at 4 pm Central time. Today and Tuesday left in the session.”

Zalewski said on The Score the other night that floor vote will be Monday or Tuesday if it passes committee today.

So are we looking at Monday as the last of DFS in illinois since thats the date it goes before a judge?

“Absent legislation”, I don’t see how a court would not interpret DFS as illegal gambling under IL Code.

If there is an argument, maybe one could get creative with jurisdiction, but PayPal will likely not want to process payments, “absent legislation”. Madigan, regrettably, has a strong case.

I guess it’s a good thing New York will be going legal soon. Unfortunately right when we get one huge state back we may be losing another one.

I find it really strange why America has such a problem with people “gambling” on a whole but I find the problem with DFS even more staggering.

Over here in the UK betting is based solely on football and horse racing and you’ll find several betting shops on every high st/main road. We have casinos scattered around the country and betting commercials nearly every break. I really hope everyone keeps fighting and doing everything they can to keep DFS alive.

Gambling is regulated state-by-state here and each state has it’s own gaming commission. The country doesn’t really have a problem with gambling at all. It is the casino lobbies in each state who game the system to limit competition through policy. The “problem” is that Americans are generally indifferent to gambling, whereas drugs and guns are more polarizing. Because of the indifference, the issue becomes a devil’s playground for special interests, as voters will not significantly react to gaming policy one way or another.

Cheers for clearing it up for me.

Well we can’t get a budget here in Illinois, so glad to see a delayed action finally benefits us.

Republican State Rep Sandack was key in slowing down legislation legalizing DFS in Illinois. Sounds like Mr. Sandack got caught doing something online he shouldn’t have been doing.. Wait sorry I mean “hackers took over his computer and did something”.. LOL
