What’s up fella’s? I’m here to announce something really cool that a handful of us have been working on over the past few weeks. Thanks to bbbomb, SunTszu, LeRoiStephon, and GravyCakes for helping out and getting this league off the ground.

What we thought would be a cool concept is to have a year long DFS MMA league where the standings would be determined by an accumulation of points throughout the ongoing season, and a champion would be crowned at the end of the season. The season will run the entire UFC MMA year of 2017 starting with the UFC Fight Night 103 event on 1/15/17, and ending with the New Years Eve card at the end of 2017.

We are now looking at taking on members for the league, so if you have interest in joining this league that will crown the best of the best over the course of a year, then please respond to this thread, and also email me at Info@TheMMAEdge.com.

The league will be a $100 entry fee for the entire season, which will need to be paid via PayPal (Info@TheMMAEdge.com) before the first event of the season.

The number of places that are paid out at the end of the year will be determined by how many league members that we get (most likely 2-3).

The league will be hosted on http://TheMMAEdge.com, but will be operated through the DraftKings League area. DK doesn’t have the capability to track cumulative points throughout the season, so this will be tracked manually on an Excel spreadsheet by the League Commissioner.

The idea of this league is to get the best of the best in one league, and have everyone duke it out over the course of an entire UFC calendar season. This will truly be a battle of wits, and will allow the cream to rise to the top. If you are crowned the inaugural Champion of the Grinders Elite MMA Championship League, then not only will you win the Champion’s prize pool, but you’ll also receive a trophy or plaque with your name engraved on it. You’ll also have bragging rights until the next year’s champion is crowned, and this is probably the biggest prize paid out in the league! The pride and bragging rights that come with winning this league will be 2nd to none within the DFS MMA world, and will be a league that grows in numbers and prestige over time.

Please let me know if you have any questions on the league, or what it consists of, then please reach out to me, and I’ll be more than happy to help. We are in the final stages of finalizing the constitution for the league, and as soon as this is completed we will be sure to post here, as well as at the hosting site – http://TheMMAEdge.com.

Let’s get some serious participation, and see how many people we can get in this new concept that we think is a great alternative to what is currently offered in the DFS MMA world now. The members will make this league thrive, so please pass along the word about this league, and please reach out to me if you’re interested in being a part of it. As mentioned, in order to be entered in the league, you’ll need to send the $100 entry fee via PayPal to Info@TheMMAEdge.com.

    Cheers,
    Jonathan Conrad

Complete rule set will be up soon I hope to see everyone involved! I will be reaching out to some big names to try and lure them into this contest, I’m expecting a good turn out.

    Thanks for running this Jon!

  • NewMike

I would probably be down for this. Is every contest going to have to be played or are we allowing a few empty spots because of life and other pursuits? I would prefer a top 20 scores type, unless you’ve already discussed this and/or made the rules up already.

Good to hear you guys are interested!

We are finalizing the constitution now, and will have it posted tomorrow.

Yes, we have already discussed protecting people who miss one or two lineups per year. We understand life gets in the way sometimes, and don’t want people to be completely eliminated from contention for missing one lineup entry. We will handle this one of two ways, which were are still discussing: 1) throw out the 2 lowest scores of every league member, or 2) If we are only awarding the top 20 with a specific points structure (not DK scoring points), and the bottom quartile (or so) would receive 0 points. This would not hurt a member for missing a lineup entry. Regardless of how we decide to handle it, we have discussed this, and are taking the appropriate measures to make sure that this is not an issue.

If you guys are interested, either send me your email addresses, and I can forward over the constitution, and add you to the DraftKings League, or email me this info Info@TheMMAEdge.com. Please also send me your DraftKings names as well.

    More info to come tomorrow.

This will be the toughest DK MMA tournament ever compiled! And a ton of fun!

    Cheers,
    Jon

I don’t know exactly how the structure will pan out nor the schedule, so this idea of mine might have some flaws. It might make it easier to commit to, though.
I am not exactly sure how many legitimate fight cards are in store for 2017 (UFC 2xx, UFC fight night, UFC on Fox), but it will likely be around 30ish? Each participant could be on the hook for (let’s just say) 20 lineups throughout the course of the year. You just choose which ones you want to participate in. If you slack and only get to 16, well then you’re out of luck. If you watch every fight and bet on the first 20, then you can’t bet on any more (no dropped scores, you just max out at 20).
If the lineups and scoring are similar to DK, then it shouldn’t make a great difference if the card is 10 or 13 fights.

    Just a thought.

I think I’ll be in Switzerland around the time of the first event, I’m not sure if I can play from there (I assume it won’t be a problem), but if it is a problem, would it be ok if I sent my picks in manually before the contests start?

What’s up guys? We have the constitution finalized, and the info up on the site. Please visit http://themmaedge.com/ and click on the floating button on the right side of the homepage. This will bring you to the league homepage (http://themmaedge.com/grinders-elite-mma-championship), and here is where you can see all the rules, and there is also a link to pay for your entry through PayPal.

We have officially named the league The MMA Edge Championship, and this will be the 1st of many seasons (hopefully). We want to make this an annual occurrence, so if you have any interest please visit the site, or you can send me an email at Info@TheMMAEdge.com.

1st event is 1/15/17, so all members must have their entry fee in by then! Good luck!

Looks great! I am going to join up.

I may have overlooked something when reading through the constitution, but what happens if: – DraftKings decides to cease MMA contests mid-year? – A state outlaws DFS mid-year, and participants in that state can no longer submit lineups?

I know these are both huge long shots but maybe there should be something in place, just in case.

  • zelda3024

One suggestion have two kick out weeks your two lowest scores simply because there are a ton of events each season like the 2016 season had 41 events. my guess there will be about the same amount in 2017. So having a cushion of two toss out weeks might work better just in case someone forgets of has an emergency situation come up.

Just something for the commission to think about.

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. We haven’t talked about it but if MMA ceased to exist I’m sure we would just refund everyone..

I do think we have (or will) put a rule in place that says you can manually send a lineup in if you are in a location that’s restricted from DK. For example if you spend a week in Vegas, you should be able to DM the commish your lineup PRIOR to lock, even though you can’t physically enter the contest.

    Just paid my entry fee!

I’ll be in Zurich for the first event of the year and DK is restricted there. Just let me know for sure if I can send in a lineup manually and I’m in

I didn’t know this but apparently you can enter free contests on DK if you are in a restricted area. As long as it’s not a cash prize contest. So if that’s true, you should still be able to enter the contest from Zurich since it’s a free contest. I’m not 100% sure about this though, just what I’ve heard today.
