So I assume this replaces the $44 Slam you’ve been running satellites for over the past couple of months?

  • bobbyv02

If the Santa slam is a $12.25 tournament their satellites have been a sham. For instance most of their $1 satellites were 102 people saying they were paying out 2 $44 tickets. But there is no $44 tournament listed for Tuesday as of now so that should have paid out many more spots. Am I missing something??

Judging by my account, if you won a $44 ticket, you were given 4 tickets to this. So, technically you get $49 worth of tickets. Personally, I’m a one lineup guy, so I’d prefer one $44 ticket in a contest with far fewer entries, but since they decided to change the rules in the middle of the game, guess I don’t get a choice in the matter.

That is what they did.. I had 4 $44 and now 16 $12.25. They did send me an email to notify me of the change, here it is in case you haven’t seen it.

    Hi dolphinkick,
In the spirit of the holiday season, we decided to make our Santa Slam bigger and better than ever with a prize pool of $1,000,001!
We’ve also made the entry fee $12.25. So instead of only receiving one (1) $44 ticket to the Santa Slam on 12/25, you’ve now been awarded four (4) $12.25 tickets for every $44 ticket you had.

Can’t say that I mind it. Tho I don’t know exactly how many more people i’m playing against vs the $44 tournament. Twice as many? IDK maybe I do mind it after all. They might need to give me a few more entries to make this work lol. Even tho i’ll probably win that $1 that they added to the end of the $1,000,000. Bet they put that there just for me :)

I think I’ll stick with Yahoo on Xmas since their $20, 250k guaranteed overlay GPP is a much better Christmas gift.

  • bobbyv02

Seems really bad business to change it after running satellites. Honestly I would have never played satellites to a $12.50 tournament where you are now competing against many more people. How can you run a tournament with a prize listed and then change it?

2-3 days before as well and satellites still running for $44 Santa Slam. There’s $49 in value yes which is a nice gesture.

I’m sure the math breaks down either way but without seeing what the $44 would be… last $44 I did had 3k people in it, assume Christmas would be bigger. Lets even say 10k – something Salty about now going up against 100k % payout aside.

  • slicktornewman

Total BS move by FanDuel IMO. I don’t care that my $44 satellite tickets are now worth $49. I wouldn’t have entered any satellite if I knew I’d end up in a $12 contest with almost 100,000 entries. I’m a one lineup guy and this kind of contest isn’t for me. I’m not sure if this kind of situation is covered somewhere in their T&C but if its not I think its fair for people to ask FanDuel to exchange any won tickets to the advertised $44 contest into cash. Sure it would create overlay but they should eat it for pulling this garbage.

  • bobbyv02

I agree. I didn’t even win any tickets but as a 1 lineup person this switch would be unacceptable. Sure they are giving more value then you won but I wouldn’t want to make that many lineups on Christmas Day for a tournament against way more people then you thought you were trying to win your way into.

Very doubtful. It is stronger and more popular than ever.

    Long live DFS!!!

  • Woofers2

I’m also severely shocked & disturbed about FanDuel’s decision to convert & divide the Santa Slam tickets into smaller ones; making each ticket holder compete with thousands upon thousands more lineups… which is immensely more difficult, as others above have alluded to, or have clearly stated; we feel deceived & misled. — We’re not really/exactly left with receiving a “gift” or “miracle” in many ways…

  • dopeismarcus

imagine entering a contest that starts at 12:00pm with the last game starting at 10:30pm without a late swap.

  • feekdogg

Next week, they’ll probably run a contest where first place wins a Tesla. Then they’ll give the winner a dozen used Toyota Corrolas. It’ll be OK because the dozen Toyotas are actually worth more than the Tesla.

I personally am pretty happy with the extra value. Much rather have 4 chances for the value of my ticket. Not to mention that a contest this size, waters down the shark concentration. Pretty sure if you write in to CS and tell them you’d prefer the cash value of the original $44, they’d oblige. Everybody ‘round here always assumes the sites are out to screw them instead of actually inquiring. They are giving us an extra FREE $5!

  • damionismyname

So instead of going up against 10k ppl to have a shot at a decent prize, now ppl are going to basically be contributing to making another shark richer? lol. Some ppl are thrilled to have a shot at a tourney they probably would never waste $50 on and now you’re making it highly improbable they even cash with the already ridiculous cash lines. Its like getting a ticket to a 5000 person lottery for 10k then being told your ticket is being changed over to a mega millions ticket with 70 million entries.

  • bobbyv02

It may be an extra “FREE $5” but the expected value is negative compared to what the value of the $44 ticket would have been…

    EV is higher, not lower.

However, I too think fanduel should exchange the $49 of tickets for $44 in account credit (or if they don’t do that, a generic $44 ticket) if people request since they changed the contest after the satellites ran. For the record, I am not involved as I have no tickets.

I cannot understand why they changed the contest. They should’ve left the Santa Slam as is with the $44 buyin and then they could’ve made a different big contest with 150 max entries and a lower buyin (say $5 or $10).

  • Jvanspro

How is this a move from being in the Christmas spirit. When I first read this I thought FD was offering a lower rake tournament. Nope still a 16% GPP. This is nothing more then a normal large GPP.

  • Kjwhalen77

People should have the option of being given 4 $12.25 tickets or keeping their $44 satellite seat for a different “slam” IMO.

  • feekdogg

FD did offer to give me the $44 if I’d prefer that, but I don’t think I could live with myself if my entries are pulled and it would have won something big. I’ll just run my stupid 4-team train.

I’m glad that they did give you the option. Makes me feel better about FD. Still I’m curious as to why they made this decision? Did they see that the $44 contest would cause them to eat a lot of overlay? What if they offered you the $44 plus what they projected as overlay? They offered no explanation in the email they sent me. They just said they were doing it and here you go. Makes me wonder. Could the FD Rep please explain this “Christmas Gift” to those of us who have already won tickets into the $44 Santa Slam contest as advertised? I await your response. Thanks Nik!

Every single person complaining about this move will still be playing FanDuel next week, the week after and so on. FD, DK, and every other operator knows that. Until people actually act on their complaints, the sites will do what they want and make money.
