I have been following Fast all season and have him on my “hidden gems” watchlist. Fast is doing much on the ice to earn his coach’s respect and to move up on the depth chart. Of course, most of that, like his hustle, doesn’t show up on the DFS stat sheet. He’s been getting more assists lately now that he is up on the Ranger’s second line, but he has yet to have that breakout type of game that I know he is on the verge of having. It must happen soon though, for not even I could skate on the Rangers second line and remain scoreless for very long. Its only a matter of time before Fast goes off, and when he does, you will want him on your squad. At a salary of 3000-3100, and considering only 3% of the Monday night Sniper had him [whereas almost every other 1st-2nd liner was about 10% or more owned], Fast is a bargain that no one else seems to be spotting.

It’s cute that Jesper’s dad is a member here.

I gave myself away that easily? I am indeed his daddy, and I have been exposed. : (

Honest question who is Jesper Fast

Honest question who is Jesper Fast

He plays for the Rangers. He is an energy player who would typically be a great bottom-6 player. Hard on the boards and in the corners, throws his body around on the forecheck.

Not the best shot, not the best passer.

He isn’t the kind of guy who has multi-point upside, but he goes to the dirty areas and gets shit done.

While he has been productive lately, it’s almost completely due to the fact that Brassard and Miller seem to have found great chemistry and are burying pucks (Miller has 9 goals in 10 games) at an unsustainable rate.

When Nash returns to the lineup, Fast will likely be bumped down. Perhaps even to the 4th line as Vigneault seems to like the Stalberg – Hayes – Lindberg 3rd line.

  • maxeernst

In sum, I doubt he will ever “go off” he just isn’t a studly offensive player. Hard worker though!

    cool and thanks maxeernst

I really didn’t know nor have heard that name fancied around recently so had to google him.

Like Max said he probably wont ever go off as his success can mainly be attributed to the work of his linemmates. Additionally, Fast literally never shoots (11 shots in 15 games since January 2nd) so he wont be the type of guy to win you a GPP. His floor is 0, and his ceiling is probably 5 if hes lucky. He is still rosterable if you think NYR2 is going to have a big night as he could get 2 assists and let you pay up for a top tier defender or something, but unfortunately hes not the kind of guy who can win you a GPP.

When I’m bargain bin hunting the area I put the most emphasis on is shot attempts (followed by high danger chances). If you can find a guy who you think is gonna get 3-5 shots for around 3k that gives you a very solid floor and if he gets an assist/goal it will provide immense value for you.

An option like Belt is indicating would be someone like Sven Baertschi. Way better play than Fast IMO

You may have actually heard of him, it’s just that his name is pronounced “Yes-per Faaast”, not “Jess-per Fast”. :D

Thanks for the tip! 4 points on DK last night was a nice ROI.

only for the empty net goal or he would’ve given you a nice 0.5

His empty net goal spoke to everything I said about him above. Dug it out from the wall, fought to make a play, got drilled as he shoveled it toward the net.

Love the guy—-just not a high upside fantasy player.

Who cares how he gets the 4 points… Although I do admit I like the point on how he barely shoots and that is a concern. But on the upside, if you look at his career stats, you will notice that for most years, he was single digits in goals, just like he will finish this year. But you will also notice that there where 3 years where he put up 17+ goals; a far cry from the single digit years when he doesn’t seem to want to shoot. My hope is that he will show the goal scoring side to himself at some point, but with all that said its just a speculative play. I do not advocate starting him on your every line, just in those situations where you have 3k left in your cap and you want a potential 4-7 points.

He’s never scored 17 goals in the NHL…but if he sticks with Brassard/Miller he’s a cheap way to get exposure to that line (especially on FD with the plus minus). Not a bad DFS play, but hardly a ‘hidden gem’ – in that price range you have legitimate offensive talents like Erickson, Hertl, Draisatl, Ehlers, Horvat. All of these guys (plus a bunch more) get top 6 minutes, and they’re all better offensive players than Fast.

You’re using his 17 goal seasons in the AHL and Swedish Elite League for comparison? If he can only score that many in those leagues, he won’t be anywhere near that number in the NHL.

I played Fast last night on a two game slate mainly because of this thread (and his min salary, obviously).

I should probably be happy with his three shots.
