Until today, our Lineup Builder has been geared towards finding combinations of lineups for multi-entry play based on combinations of players you like for the day/week.

Several users, however, want to use the tool to find the best available lineup based on given projections. We now support this feature in our ever-evolving Lineup Builder.

On the Lineup Builder, you will now see two paths you can take: “Find Optimal Lineup” or “Find Multiple Lineups”. The latter option works identical to the way our lineup builder worked before this release. The first option, “Find Optimal Lineup”, will find a single best lineup with the given input parameters.

As a first release—with the exception of the DK option to “put latest start available player in the FLEX”—many of our existing “settings” only work with the “Multiple Lineups” option, mostly because they don’t make sense when you want to find a single best lineup (e.g. “variability”, “exposure”, and “number of desired lineups” are oxymoronic when wanting to produce only one lineup).

You also can’t currently “favorite” players at a certain exposure level when finding an optimal lineup, but you can still “lock in” a player and exclude as many players as you want from the final output.

Some of these “settings” limitations aren’t the most intuitive, so we plan on cleaning up the design of the page to lessen the learning curve and make it clearer, but we wanted to get this “Find Optimal” option out in the meantime since such a feature is important to many of our users.

Check the tool out, and let us know what you think!

    Thanks, Riley

Sorry to ask this here…but are there any plans to fix the Draftpot builder?

The DP builder currently supports Fan Mode, but we are working on supporting GM mode in the near future.

  • tvsfrink

It does? I don’t see any projected points or anything.

Are there plans to continue to add new features to the builder.

Something i would like to see is an option to lock 2 players (or groups) together without locking them into all the lineups.

For example, a way to tell the LU builder I want 35% exposure to john wall and marcin gortat, but i only want them paired together.

Hi, @walkoff9! Yes, we have plans to add quite a few more settings to the builder with your suggestion being one of them. I don’t have a timeline yet on when that will get added.

What I currently do for a workaround for what you are trying to accomplish is use multiple groups. I create a “Group 1” set with 35 lineups with Wall and Gortat, and then a “Group 2” set with 25 lineups with Kawhi Leonard and Duncan, etc., favoriting a subset or all of each group into my master list until I have a full set that I’m comfortable with.

Hey, I appreciate the work you guys do and I read a lot of the info this site gives out to the community. Regarding the lineup builder, I was wondering if there will be an option added to build the top 20 best lineups or whatever number with cretain exposures given. Kind of a blend of multiple lineups and optimization. I put my own projections into it and would like to build say, 20 teams that would be the top 20 projected scores from my inputs. Will that be able to occur? I do like your guys’ randomization as I just go in and hand shape each one but it’d be awesome to just get the top 20 teams or whatever number people want. I’ve tried building my own lineup builder but I haven’t quite figured it out so I enjoy using your guys’.
Appreciate you guys, great work always.

Just started using the NBA feature importing my own projections. Is there a way we can add a player to the player pool (Not sure if this has been addressed or not in previous threads, sorry if it has)? For Example, tonight’s slate doesn’t include Joakim Noah in player pool. A feature that could add guys who are currently not in pool would be great. Thanks, this tool is great!

Noah is added now. Thanks for the heads up.

I play on four sites, FD / DK / FH / DP. I see everything for the first three, but based on your links, I guess you have to be an incentives member for DP?

    Can I request/suggest a feature?

Would it be possible to display the actual exposure % instead of the shaded hearts? Having the actual numbers visible would be so much more helpful for comparing and making changes.

    +1 on this.

The exposure percentages for every player in a generated group show as a column in the “Group Makeup” table. Is this what you are asking for?

Ok, now I see what happened. I didn’t realize it but I have incentives for FH (I must have signed up through the RG link) so that explains why I have FH projections available but not DP.

Kinda, but you can only see them AFTER you make your lineups. What I meant is when you click on the heart icon and have to pick a % while you’re sorting through players. Then I can’t remember exactly what % I used when I look at it again and may want to adjust because I realize I like another player more or less. I’d rather just see the % instead of the heart icon if possible.

I was curious as to why when selecting “Find Multiple Lineups” it dosent generate lineups starting with the most optimal. For example, I upload my personal projections. I then run the optimal lineup tool and it gives me the same exact optimal that my excel solver does. However, if I run “Find Multiple” it almost never spits out the optimal lineup, and if I do it multiple times it normally produces varying results. Wouldnt it make more sense for it to start with your optimal lineup, and then create x amount of lineups that are next in line in terms of being optimal?

  • Riley

@crazypaul, when we start with the optimal when finding multiple lineups, the end result is a bunch of lineups that look incredibly similar (e.g. 9 out of 10 position players being exactly the same). When creating lineups for multi-entry, this is almost never what you want. Instead, you want a much more varied set of lineups with a lower bound on maximum exposure and a lower-bound on daisy-chained players.

@mtro86, that’s a great suggestion. thanks for pointing it out! I’ll look into getting something that clarifies that better than the (very) similar color-shading that’s happening right now.

When we start locking players can we see how much is left and in hockey can we lock more than 4 players from the same team on DK

  • BKLionKing

Any chance that the Fantasy Aces one could include a “max” salary cap used for the purpose of the Salary Pro games? Obviously that isn’t going to be high on the list of requests, but if there is ever time, that’d be great!

    Thanks for this update!

  • daddydupe

The optimizer worries me because I feel like bunch of people will just have the optimal lineup which would make cashing in cash games way harder. I know other sites have this, but RG is immensely popular.

  • tvsfrink

How often does the optimal lineup actually cash? I’ve seen a few articles that indicate it does pretty poorly for NFL, at least.
