Had a chance to watch this last night and was great to see so many familiar faces in the DFS industry make some cameo appearances.

Pricing it more than an entire month of netflix probably wasnt the best idea

  • filmmaker

    Sorry it’s so expensive.

  • filmmaker

    Sorry. that was sarcasm.
    1. I didn’t price it.
    2. It’s comparable to any other new film on Amazon or Itunes

But if it’s too expensive for you… sorr

Glad to see you take criticism so well

  • filmmaker

Ya know what, I’ve been nice to every single person I’ve met. But screw it. Haters gonna hate. If that’s all you gotta say, it’s not criticism. It’s just ridiculous. Sorry you won’t be seeing the film.

Looks great! Thank you for sticking it out. Filmmaking is easier than it has ever been (the buy in, thanks to technology), and it’s easier than ever for people to see it (again, technology), it’s harder than ever to make money at it (Netflix killed the business model)!

But it’s a great niche subject and I hope for the best for you!

Technical note: It might be a steaming problem, but the pulldown seemed a bit off on a few clips. Interview stuff looks great, what did you shoot on? (That’s the first time I’ve asked that in THIS forum!)

I don’t think Bowens was being a jerk, and I understand his point of view. Hell, it’s tough to get me to go to Redbox when there are thousands of movies/docs/series for (the perceived value of) free on Netflix and Amazon. But good content will always find it’s audience.

The completion of ANY movie is a minor miracle. Congratulations!

Not sure why all the shade being sent in your direction, but I think its a great idea and look forward to checking it out in the near future.

I remember seeing the trailer last year. I’ll be shelling out the $13 next weekend. I guess I don’t understand the complaint.

It’s not like the filmmaker is instantly getting rich at this price and it’s the standard Amazon price. Indy movie distribution is very tough these days. If he went straight to Netflix, the chance of covering initial costs is next to 0.

  • ksinn2

I will certainly be checking it out. Are you doing any festivals? I should be on the circuit this fall, would love to see it in the theatre.

  • dartjeff

    Looks interesting!

Thanks for all the support guys. And yes. Filmmaking is a tough thing. I would never expect anyone to pay anything for something that they didn’t want to see. But if you WANT to see it, it does surprise me that you wouldn’t pay a little bit to see it.
And of course, I hope everyone knows, the filmmaker doesn’t set the price. The distributor works with Amazon and iTunes and other places for that. I actually did not know how much they were charging until I saw it on the websites.

And just FYI – everyone has been paid to make this movie EXCEPT me and my producer. So maybe I was a little testy.

Anyway, thank you for your support. All of you.

And to answer the wuestions..1. Filmed on canon c300
And not sure about festival circuit. All this happened so fast. We did it the opposite way. Got distribution BEFORE festivals.

    Thanks guys!

Purchased…can’t wait to watch! Thanks for the hard-work and risk to shine light on the insides of our industry.

  • filmmaker

Thanks Cameron. And thank you guys for being such a big big help. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts! Means a lot to us.

I watched it last night aswell I thought it was really good, but I was disappointed to see alot of the season long aspects, I thought the whole thing would be about daily. A good chunk was about season long and I lost interest, but the coverage around ray of hope was what I really enjoyed, of what they really do.

  • TheFFOracle

Is it going to be available to rent? I’m one of those people that only watches a movie once

  • filmmaker

FFOracle… I THINK when a movie first comes out it’s for sale… and then after a little while, it goes for rent. I wish I could tell you when… you would think I’d have something to do with this stuff… but oddly, I don’t!
    Hope you love it!

Watched it the other night on DirectTV, always fun to see the personalities of the industry. Probably undersold just how skilled some of the people are, and their processes, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing to market. Well worth the $7 or whatever it was I paid on demand.

  • fightingjohn

DFS movies now?? Come on really?? Anything to try to make a buck I guess.

  • MAC8680

Everyone has been paid? I’m firing my agent! :) I know you guys all worked your a$$es off to get this thing out in 12 months. I haven’t seen it yet, but congrats on all the hard work (even if I look like a tool in it).

  • deebarizo

    Congrats on finishing it.

I will probably buy it. I need some motivation to start doing DFS seriously again.

Had a big five figure day so I’m taking an extended break but I do need to do a lot of work with my NBA algorithm before the season starts. Lots of off season moves that shook up the NBA landscape.

    Really enjoyed it. Well done.

The wife said she would “watch it while she fell asleep”, but wound up watching the whole thing…so that’s a good sign :-)

BTW: There sounded like there were some pricing concerns. You can rent it for just $3.99 on Amazon, which seems fair to me. I recommend it. Not a hardcore strategy watch, but very entertaining for anyone who is captivated by the industry.
