Hi, I logged on this morning to Fanduel and see that the $3 shot has dropped to a $150K prize pool with only $10K going to 1st (Before it was a larger prize pool with $20K for 1st even with the same two games going on). I checked MLB and it is the same $3 buy in with $10K to 1st but at least with MLB we don’t need to worry too much about chopping with at least 5 others or more for 1st. I went over to DK and I see their NBA product is a $4 buy in with a $8K 1st place. It’s like they are steering the GPP players away from tournaments and making them play cash games instead. I withdrew what I had left on FD until I see bigger prize pools. I’m most definitely a GPP player over a cash game player.

I don’t play NBA, but MLB pools vary by day of the week – primarily since day/night game slates vary.

There are just two NBA series still going. It is nuts that the demand has been there consistently on both sites to fill up $150-200K tournaments at the $2 to $4 price points with the inherent overlap of a four team player pool and shortened rotations.

This is uncharted territory right now and there is really no blueprint for what the sites should do. It seems that the thirst for NBA Playoff DFS is unable to be satisfied which is mind-boggling to me.

On FanDuel both last Saturday and Sunday the had nearly the same (within $10-20k) amount of guaranteed prize pools for both NBA (two game slates each day) vs MLB (10 game and 15 game main slates).

That is what is so weird. I would think that if they are reducing the GPP prize pools for NBA because of the lack of games then fine I get it. MLB is still early on in the season and way more to choose from player wise when drafting yet has the same prize pools as NBA. Maybe they are just waiting for NBA to be done and over with before ramping up MLB? Maybe a lot of new MLB players from last year aren’t playing MLB this year due to its high variance and the sites are adjusting? Maybe it’s because they are feeling the squeeze of all this DFS legality and it is really affecting their funds? Who knows?

I feel like thursday MLB slates are always lower payout.. more teams off, teams on travel day resting players, etc

    I addressed this.

I see that pdidawg82. I’ll keep my eye out for a good MLB GPP throughout the week. Hopefully I can find one with a $20K 1st place prize.

It’s because they went away from year’s past scoring——-there is no minus scoring now—-they took away the sweat——now you can’t move up in the standings when you are out of players——-in years past, when you didn’t have any players left, you could still make money as batters made outs—-if you are out of players now, you might as well just retire for the night——there is now no interest in keeping up with the remaining games—-the sweat is gone—-before you could still make thousands if you had no players left, or just get in the money—-now the only way you can move in the standings is down.

Interesting point. My DFS history dates back just six months, but gather the ‘held on hope’ whilst in the clubhouse akin to praying that a MNFtball Team(s) DST goes negative.

^While I understand that sentiment, it’s wrong. There is still negative scoring for pitchers and you can still move up in the standings having no one left to play. Thing is that dwindles down a lot towards the end of the night when most if not all of the SPs have been pulled..

  • paulmsr

regardless of the point, that fact has nothing to do with the top prize being lower on some slates

  • tvsfrink

I think the top prize is smaller when people use too many dashes in their posts.

  • marcreinhart

This really comes down to the fact that you can’t please everybody. I remember last year a large number of people complaining that the prize pools were too top heavy. Now that most GPP price pools are 10-12% to the winner, people are complaining because that massive amount of money to the winner isn’t there. The numbers that were stated by the OP says that this particular GPP is more like 6-8% which I would definitely agree is too small, but I personally prefer the 10-12% that I see on most DK GPP’s these days to the 25% that we often saw last year.

Very few pitchers end up with negative scoring—but usually all batters will make an out. JMO—-but the sweat was eliminated.

Ugh….I must admit. After writing this forum post about low payouts and withdrawing all my FD money I…gulp redeposited to play more NBA. Such is the life of a degen. Hopefully I win.

Negative scoring for pitchers is not actually that rare, but that’s not even what I was getting at. I get that a small minority enjoyed the negative points for outs but everyone needs to stop acting like all negative scoring is gone..

If a guy is ahead of you with Jake Peavy left to go, you’re not high enough for what remains of negative scoring to matter. DUCY?

All is well. FD giving away $50K to 1st for the Sat-Sun slate. Appears it was just a Thursday thing.
