Today ends the run of a radio icon. Love him or hate him, the man helped revolutionize sports radio. Respect to #numbahone. Back afta dis.

I listened to him and Chris Russo, the Mad Dog, growing up.

When they split up due to money (Francesa was making about a million a year and Russo wanted a similar amount. WFAN wouldn’t give it to him. He got a better offer from satellite radio), that was the end of an era.

Francesa got even more obnoxious and insufferable when he didn’t have to share the spotlight.

He was definitely a tough listen flying solo and I definitely preferred them together, but there is no way that Russo is on his level when it comes to sports. Sports radio is now officially dead. Every other show is a circus now. Mike was sports.

Did anyone see the 30 for 30 on them? I enjoyed it. Growing up in NJ and now 42 they were a big part of my love for sports.

I didn’t say who was on someone else’s level

I explained why they split up and said that “Mike’d Up” (Mike Dupp) was not very good.

They were good together, not apart.

The Super Bowl sweepstakes was great each year. Mike and the Marquis.

I had the answers written down but I never once got through to the contest. Apparently their phone system was biased towards people outside NYC, as Mike explained.

I tried probably a thousand times during the contest.

I posted the answers online one year, which was a mistake, because the winner obviously used my work and didn’t credit me. That was sad.

I remember about a year or so ago, when NY was considering allowing DFS back in the state, him shouting his own ignorance at some NY assemblyman. Francesa couldn’t understand the concept of a guaranteed payout contest. So he shouted, and shouted, and shouted.

I don’t know if he subsequently educated himself on the subject of DFS, but at the time he wasn’t doing anyone here any favors. It’s okay for him to disagree with someone. But to fundamentally not understand the facts and then use his platform to reach a wide audience, thereby disseminating these misunderstandings, it’s not good. So I won’t be missing him.

Is that a new report or an old report?

Not sure NY was all that worried about DFS concerns.

he did, and that assemblyman actually called into his last show to say goodbye and wish him well – they still argued the gambling vs. not gambling on that last call but it was all in good fun.

For my money Mike was better without the mad dog, he didn’t really yell aside from the occasional clip that would go viral.

Guy is a legend and drive time sports talk in NY just got a whole lot worse without him.

The new show is awful and I have given them a chance but hearing Bart Scott try and talk about the Mets and their spending is comical. He also lost me on day 1 when he said Todd Bowles is a good coach and deserves better

  • NewsboyMoriarty

I drifted away from the show a few years ago but one thing I’m sure of now is sports talk is all the same,LA,CHI or Topeka no different than NY.3 talking heads with PC proper ratio of race and gender all saying the same thing.

yeah I remember posting about that.

He had (and still has) no clue about how DFS works. He made wildly inaccurate statements about it.

He’s a major horse degenerate so I think he was against it for the same reasons casinos paid off Schneiderman to try and get rid of it. Competition.

Omg it’s terrible. I cannot believe they decided to go that route to replace Mike. I turned it off after two minutes today.

You seem butt hurt, what ‘‘triggered’‘ you? PC? Race? Gender? I wrote a comment based on observation that today’s sports talk all looks and sounds the same, goys and your new age tendency to be offended by EVERYTHIING.

Have you turned a radio on lately? Every show is 3-people… and when it comes to the political stuff, he is right. Everyone agrees with each other. And nobody even understands sports. It’s either sitting on a fence or coming up with the most egregious takes to boost ratings.

Further, all radio seems to be inundated now with personalities who once played sports. The same problem exists at ESPN. I mean, honestly, why would I care about Bart Scott’s opinion regarding anything? Because he was a good tackler?
