what impact will this rule change have-a pitcher must face at least 3 batters or end a half inning i think it will quicken the pace and shorten games

It’s a load of utter BS just like MLB attempting to swipe the rampant sign-stealing via technology under the rug.

I’ve never attended a MLB game or watched one on TELL-U-A-VISION where I thought to myself “Oh, good, gracious..HOW LONG IS THIS GAME GOING TO TAKE?”

It could improve the odds of starting pitchers staying longer in games knowing the bullpen can’t come in to get one guy out. Should make managers think a little bit longer about when to pull…

However it could have an adverse effect. you may also see an SP1 or SP2 only pitch 4 innings more often now, a mid reliever work the 5th and 6th perhaps as well – could eliminate a lot of wins for starters.

MLB needs to just stop and leave the game alone as it is. The new playoff format they’re floating out there is terrible as well.

It’s probably best for the long term health of the middle relief in the mlb. It will cut down on specialists who come out to face one or two batter. Some coaches just go all out on the bullpen strategy, and the 5 relievers to pitch in a single game all have to throw a good amount of warm up pitches in the bullpen.

The current win stat is reduced to mostly meaningless w/ current pitching strategies like openers.

Any dfs site that offers pts for a “win” is introducing randomness worthy of gambling classification.

A worthy stat would be pitching performance above expectations….based on the batter’s faced…… like any Houston batters in HOU in 2017-2019 would have a expected ops of….1.066…

I see a potential for this to warrant a slight uptick in value to hitters with drastic platoon splits and a slight devaluation to guys who are neutral or reverse splits. For season long anyway. For DFS, batting lineup composition (who hits in front of and behind a particular guy, whether they are same or oppo handed as the guy you are considering rostering, which guy the opposing team will game plan to “not let beat us”, etc) and opposing team BP composition (handedness and splits of relievers) are just as critical to that equation as whether a guy has traditional, reverse, or neutral splits. I’ve not tried to wrap my head around what impact, if any, can be projected on SPs.

I have. Many, many, many times.
