    Hey-

Was curious to hear some takes on roster construction for the MLB All Star Showdown contest. Although I am doing it to make the game more fun, I am intrigued by the best way to go about it. It is definitely a little hard to establish a strategy due to the unpredictability of rest, pitchers dual vs. offensive game, picking spots, and the fact that all pitchers are being scored as relief (higher points for strikeouts). I looked at some box scores from the previous years and it is looking like pitchers are the way to go. I also considered that 1 inning pitched with 1-3 strikeouts is 7-13 points, which equates to a batter hitting a home run pretty much (and the possibility of bonus points for win/save) What I can’t decide however, is what starting pitchers and relief pitchers will actually get into the game after looking at mixed results in previous box scores.

    My lineup currently is
    AL: Chris Sale/Blake Snell/Edwin Diaz (SP/SP/RP)
    NL: Jacob Degrom/Aaron Nola/Josh Hader (SP/SP/RP)

What are your thoughts on playing batters as opposed to pitchers, and on what pitchers to select based on probability of play? (Obviously, any news reports tomorrow will be relevant)

Dave Roberts just told us Max Scherzer will pitch 2 innings everyone else one. He said deGrom Foltyniewicz and Nola will follow in that order …#MLBAllStarGame

    5:27 PM – 17 Jul 2018 from Washington, DC

    Should have gone Tampa style,
Hader, janson, hand, nola, folt, degrom, and close the 8th and 9th with scherzer

Still got no clue what to do on this FD $100K to win GPP.

K-MAXIPAD will screw me if I roster him at all….. even if he goes 2 IP with 3 Ks….and doesn’t give up an earned run..that’s only 15 points…A solo DONG is worth 18.7 on FD…what to do what to do………

I think I like Bregman as my one hitter. Checks the following boxes:

    1) AL- guaranteed 9 innings of hitting
    2) His manager is the team’s manager
    3) Once the starter is out he is the only one who can play his positions
    4) Has home run power

    Anybody have a counterargument?

AL is the home team so they are not guaranteed 9 innings of hitting

odds stripling gets in for the NL or Happ for AL?

I get that much, it’s more so that the starters have zero chance at a hold or a save, and really a very unlikely chance at a win, which are all important per this scoring system, especially if nobody is pitching more than 2 innings

To that point – who the hell might be closing for the NL?

    hader ?

Going with Max, Bryce, Abreu, and the 3 AL relievers who I think get the win/hold/save. Left $2600 on the table and this feels just dumb enough to win $100k lol

    hahaha

Well its gonna be a flip of the coin hold wise and guessing the back end of the bullpens is gonna be total guess since pretty much every reliever is a closer. My guess would be Jansen and Diaz? But who knows really.

actually it looks like the AL is hosting but only because of some weird maneuvering by MLB https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-all-star-game-2018-why-the-national-league-is-home-team-for-the-second-straight-year/

The National League is the home team.

Cleveland is hosting next year and The American League will be the home team in Cleveland, followed by the National League being the home team in Los Angeles when the Dodgers host in 2020.

They are playing in a National League stadium but the AL is the home team

Probably Jansen, unless Roberts decides he doesn’t want to use his own player.

If not Jansen, I’d say Vazquez.

Hand and Jeffress are available but I don’t think they’d be used as the closer.
