Anyone playing the all star showdowns on fan duel and/or DK? Been browsing the web and not finding much info on them. Anyone have any thoughts?

Probably doing one to keep my achievements going. Currently I have all hitters, with acuna as captain.

What’s the strategy here? Take all hitters? avoid guys who played in the HR derby?

  • Bricarr2

Looking at it – very briefly – I think a pitcher heavy approach is a good cash construction. For GPPs you need home runs and probably a HR from the captain.

But again, I do not profess to be an expert. Seeing if anyone here has any grand and glorious ideas.

This is last years winning line up on DK…

    FLEX
    Max Scherzer
    43.79% $10,800 16
    FLEX
    Chris Sale
    52.04% $10,400 6.3
    FLEX
    Blake Snell
    10.97% $6,600 11.7
    FLEX
    Jean Segura
    0.50% $4,500 23
    FLEX
    Joey Votto
    1.53% $4,400 14
    FLEX
    George Springer
    0.95% $4,300 19

In reality though it means very little, because of a few things. 1) There was no captain spot. 2) Pitcher scoring was different. Don’t know the details of each score, but pitchers got points for holds last year, which made every reliever coming in a bit more valuable. 3) Last year DK had all non-starters sort of hidden like this year, where you have to hit the remove non probables tab to open up all the bench players. There were many, many players last year that completely missed this, and why you may notice Springer, Votto, and Segura were so low owned. I’m sure some won’t realize this again and some will learn.

So anyway, I think you’ll still want to a mix of pitchers and hitters. Yes, if you can pick out which pitchers are most likely to get in, that should raise your floor, which would be good for cash. In GPP’s you’ll probably want a mix of both. The expected lower ownership on bench bats will be good for GPP’s, just have to do you best digging and guessing to make sure the guys you’re picking will get in the game. As Bricarr mentioned, yeah someone will probably hit a HR, maybe more than 1 person and you will need them and have them in your captain spot.

Should also add, you’ll notice or figure out that both starters for the ASG were in the winning line up. Might be a good place to start again.

    Thanks Pandamonious. Very helpful.

I did 150 lineups on FD, no pitchers on there single slates. Only used 10 hitters, 5 AL 5 NL. Go big or go home.

Went with guys I hope get multiple ABs and definitely guys I know will get in the game. I’d like to think the first timers definitely get to make an appearance.

Since pitchers do not pitch more than 2 innings, I’m working with this.

On DK, the maximum a starting pitcher can get if he doesn’t give up a hit, hit batter or walk, strikes out the side twice and goes two innings in the captain spot is 24.75.

If a reliever achieves those same stats and gets the win the maximum is 30.75.

A home run by any captain is 21

With Cleveland being a pitchers park, I think I want at least a couple pitchers in my lineup, just not in the captain’s spot.

  • superjon

I hope people see Trout’s BVP vs Ryu and decide not to play him.

“(player-popup #luis-castillo)Luis Castillo and Buehler appealing at captain. Can come in for 2 innings rack up some Ks vs AL batters that have yet to see them and possibly earn and hold or win

Well…that BVP is telling. Trout doesn’t see Ryu well, there’s no doubt about it.

Also..Trout is better versus righties. And Trout is only likely to see 2, maybe 3 total at bats..and 1 of them will definitely be versus Ryu. So you’re banking he does something big in his other 1 (maybe 2) at bats, which will also be against good pitching.

He certainly could do well (he is Mike Trout after all) and his ownership might be lower because of the BVP, I just don’t see it as a spot I’m excited to play Trout.

Are the managers going to inform everyone what their rotations/plans look like? That seems to be the norm.

  • dbullsfan

For cash it seems like going 6 pitchers is a lock right? Maybe take a risk on a NL hitter early in the lineup but it just doesn’t seem like anyone is a lock for more than 2 ABs so you basically need a extra base hit or run scoring event to outscore most pitchers if they don’t give up a run

  • monarch

I think I’m targeting Blackmon, Mookie and Lindor as captains off the bench

  • Dasusun

Remember it’s the juiced ball era, and remember they hit 10 HRs in last year’s all star game. Pitchers made more sense in last year’s format (all RPs got bonus), but I don’t see any pitcher really a must play this year.

    Thank you!

Yeah I was going to look for some possible “relievers” and go HR hunting. I might still have both starters in a lineup or two though.

Unless we hear other wise I like Verlander for captain, I think as the starter he has the highest odds of going 2 innings and has higher K upside than Ryu. I think trying to guess which pitcher is on the mound when their team scores the winning run is too much of a gamble (at least for cash) maybe I can see it for gpp but still not sure if those 4 points are going to outscore an extra inning from Verlander

  • monarch

Ya but the ballpark sucks for taters as compared to last season.

Matt Chapman will see better pitches tonight than he saw last night from his pops. Got to rep my A’s!

  • Efhatch1990

Verlander was leading the league in hrs allowed i believe with like 23 or something

I was considering Lindor because it’s in Cleveland but the AL has 3 shortstops, a first timer in Polanco starting so I figure he will get 4-5 innings and Cora’s guy Bogaerts on the pine with Lindor. One of those two may not even play and if they both get in, it should be 1 AB apiece.

Of course sometimes managers rest their own guys but you never know.

    DH?

    DH?

Eh with 4 OFs and 2 first timers on the bench (Meadows and Merrifield) I think Gallo slots in as the DH replacement. Better to have a middle infielder available for defensive purposes too in case of an injury or extra.

If not Gallo then Abreu or Vogelbach more likely to DH.

Pretty sure Lindor is getting lots of time in the field as the hometown guy. Bogaerts can get an AB as a DH or not play at all as an injury replacement

It could happen but don’t feel safe about it. It’s not as if he is their only rep. Santana is starting and they have 2 pitchers. Plus the AL isn’t guaranteed 9th inning ABS and Polanco is batting 9th (Most likely Lindor’s batting spot.)

I think it’s very realistic he only gets 1 AB.

Or Polanco gets 1AB and Lindor comes in the 4th and closes out the game. Hes Francisco Lindor pretty recognizable star at home

  • RatedDAL

That could happen too. Just stating my reasons for fading Lindor.

I like Torres’ chances at more ABs a lot more.
