I know I’m a couple years late with this but recently been thinking about it as it still hasn’t set well with me.

Joined DK in 2013.. helped me out during some rough times keeping my mind off of things. Fast forward a year or two and I really started focusing on the RAF program (since its not always an option to deposit) as a way to earn some DK dollars to stay in the game. Worked extremely hard through mma/fantasy forums to get 18 people to sign up through my link.

After making 10-15 dollar a month off of their entry fees, it allowed me some entertainment in my low stakes games.

Fast forward again to 2016 and they change the program out of no where stating that if you don’t “ have 4 or more people sign up in a 6 month span we have the right to terminate your previously invited friend.” In one swoop all the work I had put in was out the window and was next to impossible to find new people through your link as every 2 seconds on Tv there was another draftkings commercial.

Now I will shout out that they did credit me $50.00 because of the inconvenience after I showed my displeasure but recently had me thinking again that $10-15 for 3+ years would have allowed me and would still allow me to be playing more often. It’s funny because In some of the contests I’m in I see some of the people I refereed so who knows how much it would be a month now.

Anyway I don’t expect much to come of this but it still kinda stinks that people who put in the work referring before DK was this massive company lost out on a lot of their hard work… would have been nice to see people grandfathered in who went out there and brought people to the company.

Hopefully this won’t get deleted because it’s still a great company and fun site to play when I do.

The ship has sailed. I 100% agree with you. A few years ago when they got rid of the refer a friend program and the monthly commissions attached to it they said “Don’t worry” we are going to come up with something bigger and better because people “would prefer” to get upfront tickets instead of waiting for the monthly. Back in the days you WOULD get up front tickets PLUS the monthly. Then what followed was a huge reduction in incentives. Back in the days getting $25 or even $50 per referral was common. Now they give you a $10 ticket. Totally not worth the time. Plus they now limit you to five per period. I find this to be really foolish. These companies spend millions in CASH OUTLAY to advertise. The ROI or the cost per acquisition on this advertising must be insane. I’d guess around $100 per new customer. There is no cash outlay to offering a good refer a friend program. The cost is maybe a reduction of earned rake but that no doubt gets churned to nothing as one plays more and more. Let’s face it everyone who is into fantasy sports knows about draft kings already. The way to get new customers is to get those that aren’t aware of it to try it out and become aware of it. Even if they play a few bucks here or there. The reason WHY is to get them in the door so you can cross promote them on sports betting as it becomes legal everywhere. Makes no sense to me. It is all just a big money grab anyway. With huge rake and the taking away of bonuses all across the board. Sure it is their company and they can do what they please and sure $10 to refer someone might be good enough for a few folk but for the people such as the original poster who can refer a lot it is not worth their time. Being told one thing a few years ago about the refer a friend program and having none of it come true and now getting $10 bucks and a limit of 5 must piss a lot of people off. My advice is there are no more good referral programs in DFS out there anymore. But if you do refer people refer them to yahoo or fantasy draft where the rake is lower. The BS is less and the money grab is not so obvious. I know someone who refers for the sportsbooks and they are pissed that companies severely limit people betting that might win a bit. You just shake your head sometimes at the many poor decisions FD and DK have made the past few years and how they keep making more and more. I hear where you are coming from OP!

Again I don’t expect anything to come from this but if a DK rep could help me understand from there train of thought, that would be awesome

Djw2033 – The Community Team is here to discuss contest and product issues, to share Draftkings insights to the players in the community and capture key insights from players so we can use this data to make adjustments that help to make the ecosystem better. We are not experts on marketing topics such as the Refer a Friend program, therefore we suggest you refer back to the discussions you previously had with our Customer Support team (we reviewed the discussions and think they did a good job of explaining how RAF has evolved). Additionally, since this is a discussion about your personal account, we couldn’t have that discussion in a public forum even if we were experts on the Refer a Friend program, it would set a bad precedent.

To help set expectations, we were a very different company back in 2016 – most of our staff didn’t work at DK back then, as we evolve we have since incorporated so many more ways to give back to our players such as Daily Rewards, Achievements, and Missions.

For those who are not aware of our Refer a Friend program, we are currently offering a free shot at a $1,000,000, both you and the player you refer will receive a $10 Kickoff Thursday Millionaire Ticket. Details are available at

I agree and appreciate the feedback but why would I even put in the work to recruit with how I was treated last time I brought new clients in ?

It would be awesome to have a off forum conversation but I understand your guys stance.

    Thanks for the reply
