There’s going to be an iRacing race this Sunday featuring a bunch of NASCAR drivers. Come on Draftkings, let us play!

  • Moszman

Maybe we get 2 Bristol night races later on.

  • ljason8eg

Ok, the iRacing race is official now, Sunday at 1:30 PM EST on FS1. Come on DK, you already do LoL contests and this event is going to be televised live in the US, hook us up!

  • Numberoneoutlaw

Highly doubt this happens. Qualifying for this race will not be televised and happens only minutes before the race. I could see them maybe offering a contest for DK dollars but offering massive tournaments I don’t see how they could pull it off.

you would think nascar would make it more fantasy friendly

Denny Hamlin was on Sportscenter this morning to talk iRacing. DK really needs to figure out how to give us this in DFS.

That iRacing on FS1 was fantastic. Hamlin passes Dale Jr. on the last lap to win. Lots of wrecks. I haven’t smiled and laughed like that in a couple weeks. Ready for next weekend.

Can’t see DK/FD posting iRacing contests … at least not with real drivers.

Since DFS is still legally required to be a game of skill … how would DK or FD determine the skill of the “drivers”?

Correct me if I’m wrong … but races like this are a test of video player skill and not real driver/team skill, right?

Also, given this, how would they price drivers? Would they test all the drivers for video game prowess or use their real life talent?

Finally, DK/FD would probably have to change their scoring … unless iRacing keeps tracks of laps led, fastest laps, etc.

Anyways … this is why I offered to do simulated races … based on real driver stats … as expected and “forewarned as probable” in my thread … I had zero replies … :(

P.S.: I know absolutely nothing about iRacing … so if someone here does … please don’t hesitate to reply and correct me if my assumptions are wrong.

P.P.S: Didn’t even watch the iRace today … if they continue running … I’ll continue to “non-watch”.

If League of Legends is OK I don’t see why sim racing wouldn’t be.

You’re right about the pricing though – I guess they could go by practice times? There were sports betting sites that had action on the race and looks like the odds were roughly based on practice times and iRacing experience.

iRacing does keep track of laps led and lap times. Both can be exported live. With some programming skill someone could write an app for live scoring, so I’m sure Draftkings could get something working.

LoL are pro LoL players … i. e. skilled in video games LoL playing against other skilled in video games LoL players.

iRacing is pro NASCAR drivers playing video games against one another.

I should have made my thoughts more clear … but look again at what I said ….

“Can’t see DK/FD posting iRacing contests … at least not with real drivers.”

The “at least not with real drivers” part is key ….

If the iRacers are pros … then yes, DK/FD could think of offering because you can measure their skill.

    If not ….

Well … I could beat Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick … or any other NASCAR Cup regular on any given day in iRacing ….

And I suck at video games … and drive pretty slow in real-life to be honest ….:)

Again LoL is a competitive league based on video game (and other) skills by the players … and that’s implicitly stated (and obvious) because the best teams (and players) in the world are the same year-after-year ….

Real NASCAR drivers playing video games is whatever …. Pretty similar to you or I playing these same drivers in a game of basketball HORSE or a hockey shoot-out and calling it NASCAR … obviously, not real … and yes I would kick all NASCAR
driver asses in a real-life hockey shoot-out, but I wouldn’t say I could beat them at Bristol just because the hockey shoot-out is suddenly called NASCAR-Sim !!!

My bad for not clarifying ….

Also … my bad if this makes no sense ….

May require a couple reads to get my gist ….

EDIT: … Also remember … I suck at the whole LoL thing … again don’t even understand what I’m watching … just applying mathematics here … and seeing what happens. :)

    this was weird

one of the choices was three guys who were apparently not entered, as far as I could tell

    Kyle Larson? …. WTF !!! ???

In one day, went from my favorite current driver to someone I hope, as a “free agent”, loses his current or any ride this year and well into the future ….

Never thought I’d say this … but even Kyle Busch is classier than you ….

Yeah and you know that word is in his normal vocabulary with the context and situation he used it in

    Excellent Point

    and ….

    Well-said ….

That’s exactly what makes it so bad ….

  • IronMonkey415

What in tarnation..he is half Japanese?

  • gje627

Wow …. just yesterday, Larson suspended without pay from Ganassi and NASCAR suspends him indefinitely … and today, Larson gone completely from Ganassi.

Overall a sad situation … but speaking only for myself.

I absolutely agree with all the decisions made by Ganassi and NASCAR up to this point.

I think Larson’s career in NASCAR is pretty much RIP/DOA, as I don’t see any sponsors taking the risk (sponsors rule NASCAR) anytime in the near or distant future … and I certainly don’t see a large Hendrick Motorsports contract in 2021, as JJ’s replacement, as being in play now.

No matter how you look at … this is a sad and disgusting situation all the way around.

EDIT: For those who read “The Athletic” article this morning suggesting Larson will likely be back in a ride in 2021, I disagree even though Jeff Gluck gave plenty of examples of seemingly horrible NASCAR driver errors in judgment not being absolutely fatal for a driver’s career (love Jeff Gluck btw, just disagree here) …. Whatever happened to Jeremy Mayfield?

  • ljason8eg

Just saying, when we look back 20 years from now Ross Chastain’s career arc will look absolutely crazy.

As for Larson, he’s been on record saying he’s only in NASCAR for the money. If he had it his way, he’d be dirt racing. That’s what I expect he’ll do considering WOO didn’t suspend him like NASCAR did, the team he owns isn’t suspended, and costs are such that he doesn’t need as much sponsorship. He’s definitely out of the running for the HMS ride, that’s Brad Keselowski’s ride to lose now. His only shot at a competitive NASCAR ride is SHR, as Gene Haas can easily bankroll his car with Haas Automation, much like he did for Kurt Busch when he was damaged goods a few years ago. I believe Tony Stewart and Larson are friends too, which probably helps. Of course this means a current SHR driver leaves. Harvick and Custer aren’t going anywhere. Bowyer is a candidate to retire soon and Almirola is only there because of Smithfield; if they leave Almirola is out the door right behind them.

I don’t see Larson trying to rebuild his image in NASCAR driving around in a RWR or similar shitbox. If that’s his only prospect, he’s done with NASCAR, IMO.

Jeremy Mayfield disappeared because 1) He never completed NASCAR’s road to recovery because he claimed he did nothing wrong and 2) He wound up in actual legal trouble with meth and stolen property being found in his home.
