I mean… he has a lot going against him both stylistically and hierarchically for this game. Obviously there are angles for any of these guys, as they are literally the best dudes in the league plus Devin Booker, but I’m a little lower on Middleton.

I liked Middleton when Bud was coaching last year. This year, not so much.

I know Giannis won’t be an NBA GM soon with the way he picked his player lol.

I think he tried to write in Bismack Biyombo

Nah he wouldn’t do that to Thanasis.

He obviously picked his team because he wanted to be the man, with some loyalty to Middleton with the reserves. He could have picked Harden, but didn’t want him. Other than that, the draft kind of set up the way it did. I’m sure if he had the first pick he would have taken AD.

Well he didn’t pick Luka when he had the chance. Luka would have been more than willing to let Giannis be the man. Embiid is a little cry baby.

Yeah, I suppose he could have taken Luka with his first pick.

I believe he prioritized players from Africa. Props to him….he earned it

He also picked Trae, who thinks he’s the best player in the world.

He cried over not getting the Olympic Finalist spot lol.

Yea I know he did, but he didn’t do it in a smart manner if he wanted to win I guess. Like he could have had Pascal Siakam later on.

I agree but it was his way or honoring them and promoting the Basketball without Borders movement. That’s my suspicion.

Yea you are right, he went Embiid – Siakam for the starters.

Then for the bench players he went Middleton (his teammate) – Bam AdebayoRudy Gobert (Bam and Rudy have heritage from their parents).

  • superstars92

It’s interesting because none of them actually play for African countries in international play. Embiid has never played for Cameroon (they would be decent with Embiid, Siakam, and Luc Richard).

Bam Adebayo represents the USA, Victor Oladipo represents the USA, and Giannis represents Greece, even though their parents are from Nigeria.

The only 2 NBA players who have played for Nigeria are Al-Farouq Aminu and Josh Okogie.

Another thing to consider with Nick Nurse is that he will play his entire 13 man Raptors team even minutes in meaningful games. Who knows what he will pull in an exhibition

He’ll be less likely to play Lowry imo. Doesn’t want him to get hurt. Lowry probably already stockpiled on the hamburgers yesterday night.

Hence the Brandon Ingram night? Probably not but I cant rule it out

The way I felt about the draft was if you had let LeBron pick 4 and then Giannis pick 4 as opposed to alternating picks, it basically would’ve been the same as it ended up.

    LeBron got whatever he wanted.

Doesn’t mean Team LeBron wins the game because you never know about motivation for these ASGs, but if these were real NBA teams going for a title and they played a series, Team LeBron would win in either 4 or 5.

The Africa angle was mentioned but there’s also the ECF angle as Giannis picked all East guys.

Maybe he felt he plays against them more so he knows them better, etc.

  • yisman

When I first looked at it, I thought there was an exception to the East vs. West but there actually isn’t.

It’s the Western All Stars vs. the Eastern All Stars.

The problem with that is of the top 5 NBA players, only one plays in the East. Out of the top 10, maybe 2 or 3.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty clear that’s why they drafted in that way.

and here we thought the days of East vs. West were over.

Last year it wasn’t like that at all. 2 of Giannis’ first 3 picks were West.

He didn’t pick Trae, Trae was the last player on the starter board and was assigned to him with the last pick.

You know the major angle your missing? The Kobe Angle . It wouldnt be surprising if Booker or Trae got mvp. Of course Lebron a option. Its the 1st Kobe MVP award, I think one of these young guys get it.

Huh? The Kobe angle is why Team LBJ wins and LBJ or AD gets the award.
