Miles Bridges is balling. He is one of the better players in this game. Real two way player

  • yisman

throwing it off the backboard, catching it your right hand, drawing it back, and throwing it down

when you’re left handed. I’m impressed

Was pretty close on world team mins but would of never thought US team would play everyone 20 mins. And yeah now i know for future reference Zion is too slow to get back up the court before someone is already shooting lol. He would just be getting across half court and into the camera view and then have to turn around and run back the other way lol

    Wow…..
…. dramatic Rule changes for All Star game…. might make it more of a game worth watching?

    • The score will be reset to 0-0 after the first and second quarters.
    • The winning team of the first, second and third quarters will receive $100K each quarter to donate to charity.
    • The total scores from each quarter will be combined at the start of the fourth quarter.
    • The fourth quarter has no time limit. The winning team is determined by reaching a target score of 24 points (for Kobe’s jersey number) added to their total of whichever team has the lead through three quarters.
      ____________________

I like this because it brings back defense into the game…..which is why Rudy was not chosen last.

    Brilliant!

The is a practical math approach to the quite un-marketable final 2 minutes of any close NBA game

How many minutes will Kawhi play??

These changes should probably impact how we build rosters for this game. The question is how, and the answer is…I don’t know?

I do agree that defense may be more prominent, leading to a slightly lower scoring game. These guys are still here though to entertain and put on a show, and although I think fans want to see effort, the offensive skill aspect is more entertaining to the masses then the defensive skills aspect.

Traditionally these games are incredibly high scoring, which if this trend remains remotely close, we might not see a 12 minute 4th quarter and frankly shouldn’t really expect one. It also may mean a tighter rotation in the 4th quarter. Example, last years final was 148-145 and the 4th quarter score was 39-33. That 39, would pace out to 7 minutes and 20 seconds to reach 24. That’s low looking back to the past 5 years or so.

So, will bench guys play even less than usual, with maybe a shorter leash in the 4th? Without looking at game flows, one would assume all starters play roughly the first 6-8 minutes of the 1st and 3rd, then all 7 bench guys start filtering in, to ultimately all the starters being back in with 4 minutes or so to go in the half/game. Under these new 4th quarter rules I can’t imagine they’ll still run it that way? Could also less skilled defensive players who are starting, I’m looking at you Trae, actually not see the floor in the 4th in favor of say, Jimmy Butler?

Or, considering these games rarely blowout, could this just look like a regular all-star game until someone is within 5-8 points of that target score then they actually play defense?

  • telestraightshooter

If any thought goes into it, defense should be emphasized …..
….every pt lazily surrendered impacts the contest for that qtr & the lead / deficit starting in 4th.

I know world class athleticism & math majors generally do not correlate…. …that’s why they have coaches.

To quote Kangaroos-on-his-ranch Joe Ingles ..
…. Its funny I’m called “Math Teacher” because I focused on sports when it became obvious school….was not my strong point

    Agreed

Defensive efforts makes the offensive effort more entertaining… when it’s earned

I’m thinking of start of LaL @ Den game where LbJ started in beast mode when shutDown specialist Torrey Craig man’d up on him

LbJ scored on most of his initial efforts, but he had to earn it

  • tmarohl

Told you all that Middleton can’t dribble. Lost the handle on the dribble in the skills competition.

Not sure how Dinwiddie got into this, because I remember him being all offended and angry he wasn’t invited back to defend his skills challenge championship, because “no one cares about Spencer” then loses in the 1st round..

Well, I guess he can say he lost to the champ.

  • deadphish

ugh…i almost pulled trigger on a $100 wager for Bam to win skills contest.
odds were +1300-ish at the time

  • deadphish

rooting for these 3 in the 3 pt contest…

    Devonte Graham +1140..Risk $100 Win $1140

    Zach LaVine +1000…Risk: 100…Win: 1000

    Buddy Hield +637..Risk $100. Win $637

    2m
Bam Adebayo (+1200) wins the Skills Challenge.

That is the sixth straight year the winner had odds of +600 or greater.
