Hey guys this is my 1st year starting NBA on DraftKings and so far it has been a downer. I mostly have been doing 33$+ nightly entry’s for NBA contests and have not been successful at all in the first few games of the season. Even though my players always exceed their projections and my studs are always putting up 50 or more points i never place in the money. I average around 270 points per contest and still don’t place…. which seems a bit ridiculous ???? Does anyone have any suggestions ?? Thanks

R u doin mostly gpp entries? Or mixing up with 5050 games too ? In my experience the 5050 games are easier to hit obviously with 50% payout or so as compared to gpp where u have to have top 10% lineup to profit usually which is very hard considering all the free info out there now and dk n fd actually telling everyone when someone is out. Its getting a feel for matchups and exploiting when a scrub gets a spot start sometimes or when that 3k guy has a career night. I gpp chase alot more than i should cuz its funner but gotta back it up with tons low $ 5050

I mostly do gpp not 5050 but at the rate this is going I’m going to do a bunch of low 5050s and see how it goes. Because I feel like I’n the gpps even when my players do well I don’t place…. I do very well in the gpps in NFL so this is a different adjustment for me.

    Whenever I make a lineup there’s a few rules I swear by.

    1. Minutes = Opportunity
    2. Don’t fade in case of blowout (if it’s a blowout then your players most likely did their work)
    3. Don’t fade a player based on Vegas implied totals (low scoring game, etc)
    4. For GPP I add up everything and need a minimum of 330pts in my lineup. (Try to think 40-45pts per spot)
    5. Use high usage players (the more the ball is in their hands the more opportunities to score)
    6. DVP is a solid assessment but too early in the season to solely rely on it
    7. Studs and Scrubs can win you a lineup just as much as a balanced lineup on any given night. (More often than not there are players putting up 40pt games and most chase the sure bet 50pt game players for most of their $$$)

The studs getting 50 isn’t necessarily as important as finding the 5 or 6K guy hitting 50, especially early in the season where pricing hasn’t been adjusted yet to where it should be as players get acclimated to new roles and new teams. You also need to find the min salary guy that actually has upside getting the spot start. If you have a 10K guy and he gets 50 points, that’s only 5X. If all your guys get 5X that’s only 250 points. If you want 300 points all your guys need to average 6X. So either you need a 10K guy to get 60 or you need lower priced guys with the potential to get much more than 6X their salary to make up for the stud not hitting 6X.

Thx for the replys hopefully I can get better as the season progresses I will take all of your advice and use it tonight in some 5050’s

Bro if you are playing in the $33 game and not cashing, then try to play in the $3-4 game, make more line ups, try new strategies and see which ones are more effective. A lot of it is really learning how to read a slate and seeing where your strong/weak plays are and avoiding possible land mines. I had a line up that hit 277 and my duds were B Lopez, Klay and Brow to a certain extent. When I started to make this lineup I KNEW Klay and Brook would be my let downs and I was right. But sometimes you take a risk playing a guy like Klay who you know can go off for 50-60, same thing with Lopez. Some nights you will kill in the sport others you will flop. But as long as you manage your bankroll and follow a process you will find yourself hitting eventually.

Try to project your LU to score at least 320. So that’s an average of 40 pts per player on your roster. Some nights certain guys may far exceed that while others may only get 25 or 30. On the nights everyone goes well over you will be in great shape!

I seriously laughed out loud when I read this post. @Captkirk07, you’ve been playing NBA DFS for a grand total of 1 week. You’re not doing anything wrong except playing above your pay grade. How can you expect to consistently beat players with years worth of experience and know how with 1 week experience? Obviously you can not expect to win yet….stick to the quarter arcade yet more importantly play the $1 dollar 50/50s (which you’ll probably lose for a while) that have at least a few high ranked players in them. Study their lineups, learn, get better. Good luck!

What is your game selection like? Are you playing in the $33 mega multi-entry games or are you in the 3 entry tournaments? Also, it has only been a week. If your process is good, it’ll eventually start to work in your favor. Don’t get discouraged after only a week.

Long season, man. If you’re consistently putting up competitive scores, then don’t change what you’re doing just because you’re not winning. If you’re getting totally blown out, that’s one thing… but you’re about 10 days into 150 day season or so. Too early to hit the panic button. But if you’re destroying your bankroll, it might not be a terrible idea to dial back the buy-in a bit…. always better to get your feet wet in free/cheap play than diving into the deep end and not know how to swim.

Stick to Cash games and 50/50. The way the new DK payouts are for tournaments, first place is around 3-5 % of the prize pool. You are basically wasting your money unless you play in the higher dollar gpps where the payout structure is much better.
