Ibaka smashing boogie for some reason.

The Ibaka v. Looney matchup probably decided the game. Ibaka only played 22 minutes and he was +11; from the time he and Looney came in in the third quarter Ibaka scored or assisted on I think 6 of 9 baskets and the others were all Kawhi solos. Most of it was against Looney, some of it against Green when they went small. Some really terrible pick-and-roll defense either way.

Why did you have to bring Lebummer into it? You could replace Curry with Lebron and this Toronto team would have swept the Warriors.

No they woudln’t. LBJ is not a defensive liability.

  • tmarohl

Bottom line is GS has not ever went up against a team as good as Toronto in their recent run. The top of the East was better than the West this year.

    Berkeley,

I have refuted lol. Offense is part of the game. Defense is as well.

    Congrats on the profit tonight.

You never told me how many shots Steph gave up. I’m curious, since you seem to know something I don’t.

You must be kidding. Lebron hasn’t played defense in about 5 years.

Yeah, they’re tough as nails. Once they got Gasol, I figured they’d be a force. Kawhi is too good, it’s not fair lol

As a Cavs fan, I’m frustrated because I’m 35 and probably won’t get to see us do it again!

Steph is a good player and a great shooter. Won’t argue that. But the way he gets pampered by the media makes me cringe.

I posted it here 2 years ago, last year, before game 1 last week… He’s a liability, consistently, in the Finals. I suck playing basketball, I suck at DFS, and even I can see that.

Liability’s a strong word and almost certainly false. They wouldn’t be better without him, for sure. But he is a really bad on-ball defender and he’s the target of every offensive game plan, and I share your frustration with how the media tiptoes around it.

Steph changed the way the game is played. The rest of the league is starting to catch up though.

i learned tonight that you just can’t put a low priced guy as captain and expect to take down a showdown
i had Ibaka as captain who did great and had all the right players with him and still lost by 10 points

Yeah, one chase down block three years ago and people think Lebron is a good defensive player. He used to be when he was young. Now he is in the bottom third of the league in defense.

“While it’s almost shocking to see LeBron look so lost on defense, his defensive decline wasn’t something that suddenly came on this year. He’s currently ranked 193rd in the league in Defensive Rating at 105.5 amongst players averaging at least 15 minutes per game. He was even worse last year at No. 491. Long gone are the days of him being a defensive closer with the Heat as his Defensive Win Shares have been cut in half since 2012-13 (going from 4.7 to 2.1).

But this decline is almost out of necessity given his age.”

They didn’t lose because of Steph. They lost because Toronto is better than the Warriors without Durant.

    This……no need to say more.

  • tmarohl

The only video you need to see to show you what kind of defensive player Lebummer is now.

Can we apply this logic to every player/every game?

    Or is Steph the exception?

  • tmarohl

Let’s say Steph hits three more 3 pointers, that would have put him at 36 points, which is the same as Leonard scored. Raptors still win by four all else being equal. That is because Raptors are the better team without Durant.

If Steph is dancing on those hypothetical 3s, are we sure Toronto doesn’t win by more, or lose outright? And when does Steph start the dance? On the release, as it’s hitting the basket, or his futle attempt to identify who he is “guarding” on the other end?

The most important thing we can take away from this series is the asterisk. When GS loses, they only lose to the asterisk.

No, simple math. The margin goes from 13 to 4.

  • realphipps

Simple math doesnt apply here. It’s Golden State.

They lost 4 out of 7 because Draymond didnt play in one of those games. That’s the standard that’s been set. 1 out of 7!

    Looool Steph haters

Durant is about to make a lot of money in the offseason, maybe even more than Kwahi Leonard. His absence reverted the Warriors back to the days when a championship caliber opposition could send someone like Kevin Love to harass Curry. Draymond is a loudmouth who can’t shoot threes, good teams will let him have his 10 rebouds and 12 points and 8 assists.

Without Durant’s length someone like Pascal Siakam or even Gasol could drop 20 points on them with ease.

Durant has always been a max guy, obviously, and so is Kwahi. They both will get max contracts if they want. This playoff run hasn’t changed anything about how much KD can get paid. Him being out hurts even more because the Warriors would have had several quality bench players for his salary. Injuries are part of the game, and I say that from experience as a Suns fan.

Draymond Green is a loudmouth but also insanely talented. Super versatile defensively, pushes the ball well after grabbing boards, passes well. He isn’t the Warriors problem, their lack of depth is the issue. Raptors are way deeper.

Also saying that someone like Pascal Siakam could drop 20 on them isn’t saying much – have you watched Siakam this year? He can score 20 because he’s improved significantly.

Yes, this championship was lost when KD went out in Game 5 against the Rockets. He was an expensive insurance policy that expired shortly before the Raptors set fire to the Warriors’ house.
    The prime suspect
There will be plenty of time for reflection and second-guessing of coaching decisions after the Raptors inevitably hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy. It seems safe to say that this series settles the question of whether or not the Warriors need KD. Will their apparent need for him be the deciding factor when he chooses where to play in July? Time will tell.
