To everyone interested in draftkings preseason contests please message their support center asking what day contests will begin! If I remember correctly they only ran the last week of preseason contests which skipped over the first two weeks! If they see there is interest maybe they can offer the entire preseason thanks!

If you’re going to play NBA dfs get Twitter. It will save you more money than you’d ever imagine. NBA is notorious for late breaking news

Do you have any suggestions on who to follow for last minute news?

  • dtrain187

Here’s a Twitter account I found last year (I think I found it here) with all of the NBA beat writers in one spot: https://twitter.com/hecmanhoops/lists/nba-beat-writers

It can get a little overwhelming with some garbage posts, but there can be some gold to be found as well.

This will be my third full season doing NBA DFS. I generally get my injury update news from either rotoworld, or rotogrinders. I do check out beat writers on Twitter if I have to, but I don’t generally need an account to do that.

first time leaving a message, but just wanted to thank you for this content.

FD posted up NBA games for this Saturday’s two preseason games. Unreal.

  • rome9bc

Wow both DK and FD sweet. What’s the strategy for preseason? I know starters aren’t gonna play 30+ mins.

  • geardaddy

Can’t wait for steven curry to be easy fade all season because he’s the worst player in nba history

  • Fontaine

FD puts up Preseason NBA and I now in Full NBA mode. It should be a good time come saturday night Steph Curry is 75% owned.

Sucks for us who play on Yahoo, no Saturday games, or even any preseason games who knows

  • elgambino

So I figure NBA preseason is similar to NFL preseason, in that research will show who will have most playing time? Any major differences or tips on where to get information?

  • Fontaine

Looking back to last years preseason box scores, I dont think fading the superstars is a smart move. Brow went 18/8 in the preseason opener. Steph dropped 30 actual points in his 2nd game of the preseason last year, Brow went ham for 70 FDPs in the 4th game.

Last year the Mavs didn’t play any starters in the first preseason game. Just a little FYI.

    Any thoughts on Patrick McCaw?

    Hi RotoGrinders,

This will be my first season playing NBA Pre-Season DFS but I wanted to share my research so far for Saturday’s slate. Below are my initial thoughts and links to the resources I’m using to back up my analysis. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter (username is in my profile) or reply back on the forum with any comments. My goal is share more analysis on both Twitter and this forum throughout the DFS season.

    GS @ Tor
The Warriors put out a Tweet with Kerr saying “Everyone will play.” (https://twitter.com/warriors/status/781946845211693056). I believe Kerr, but keep in mind Draymond, Klay, and Durant all played heavy minutes in the playoffs and Olympics. I looked at the Warriors’ 2015-16 first pre-season game and saw Draymond played 23 minutes, Thompson played 26 minutes, and Curry played 19 minutes. This was under Coach Luke Walton, but it does show the Warriors aren’t afraid to play their starters decent minutes in their pre-season opener. I expect Curry, Draymond, Klay, and Durant to be highly owned on this two-game slate.

I read an article that Patrick McCaw might push Ian Clark for the backup shooting guard role. I’m hesitant to use either without knowing if this report is true, but this could be a spot to monitor.

I’m intrigued by Javale McGee. Kerr is quoted as saying: “I think JaVale has a real chance here. We’ll see how he plays in camp…I think this is a really good opportunity for him, because he’s playing with a talented group of players and a really good environment… in which there’s nobody like him on the roster. I think he’s got a chance and we’ll give him every opportunity to play.” The Warriors lost Bogut and Ezeli this off-season and are patching their center spot with the likes of Zaza Pachulia, Anderson Varejao, rookie Mamadou Ndiaye, and McGee. This is just a gut feeling, but McGee might get some decent run to see what they have in him and could be worth a GPP flyer. The Kerr interview can be found here: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2016/09/21/steve-kerr-transcript-part-2/.

The Raptors side is hard to figure out because I haven’t been able to find much from their beat writers. We know DeMarre Carroll’s knee isn’t 100%, so I can’t imagine they would push him in the opener (https://twitter.com/JLew1050/status/780418758032654336). There’s also chatter of Pascal Siakim being viewed as a starter as soon as next season (https://twitter.com/WolstatSun/status/780419163185610752). He was the 27th pick this year and had decent numbers during his time at New Mexico. Rotoworld is listing him third of the Power Forward depth chart but if Coach Dwayne Casey is being truthful, perhaps they use the pre-season to get a good look at his skill-set.

I retweeted some articles from Mavs beat writer Dwain Price, who said he’d be surprised if Dirk, Mejri, Bogut, and Deron played on Saturday (https://twitter.com/DwainPrice/status/781977359767392256). If you believe Price, this might be a good fade while inexperienced DFS players will see the familiar names of Dirk and Bogut and plug them into their lineups without thinking. There was no mention about Harrison Barnes, which I found interesting. Price also wrote another article with the headline reading “Mavs young players will get heavy minutes against the Pelicans” (http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/nba/dallas-mavericks/full-court-press-blog/article105299136.html). The article mentions 2 noteworthy items:

    1. He doesn’t expect Devin Harris to play
    2. Jonathan Gibson, Kyle Collinsworth, Keith Hornsby, C. J. Williams, Nicolas Brussino, Dorian Finney-Smith and Jameel Warney are fighting for the final two roster spots. He believes Gibson, Brussino and Finney-Smith are the front-runners.

Honestly, I have no idea who Gibson, Brussino, and Finney-Smith are. It’s hard for me to click their names on DraftKings without knowing how many minutes they’ll play or what they bring to the table, but if you’re looking for deep GPP plays, these could be your guys.

My three favorite Mavs plays are Seth Curry, Justin Anderson, and Dwight Powell. If you read Seth Curry’s Rotoworld page, it’s filled with praise from the Mavs staff (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/2242/seth-curry). Dwain Price seems high on Justin Anderson if you read his Twitter feed, so he’s on my radar. If Dirk does sit on Saturday, I’m thinking Dwight Powell might get some run, so he’s someone I’m considering in GPPs.

Finally, we get to the Pelicans. The big one we need to get right is Anthony Davis. Alvin Gentry is quoted as saying Davis will be “very limited” (https://twitter.com/Jim_Eichenhofer/status/781908935275982848). Brow is coming back from knee-surgery and a torn labrum so I would think the Pelicans will do everything they can to protect the glass-man. I have no idea what “very limited” means so it’s open to your interpretation. We all know he’s capable of putting up crazy numbers in a short period and Power Forward is thin on a two-game slate, so he’s going to be highly owned. I consider Davis strictly a GPP play.

With Jrue Holiday away from the team indefinitely to be with his wife, I think everyone will flock to Tim Frazier and with good reason. The three players that intrigue me the most are Langston Galloway, Alexis Ajinca, and Buddy Hield. Galloway and Ajinca put up 25 points and 18 points, respectively, in a scrimmage this week (https://twitter.com/Jim_Eichenhofer/status/781340361671049216). Ajinca has also been quoted as saying he expects to be the starter come opening day (https://twitter.com/Jim_Eichenhofer/status/779397021673349120). Those are pretty bold words but if you played NBA DFS late last season when the Pelicans were decimated, you’ll remember Ajinca as the black hole who took every shot when he got his hands on the basketball. It was like watching James Harden 2.0. As for Buddy Hield, there are reports he’s learning quickly and given the Pelicans used a #6 draft pick on him, I could see him getting a chance to play some minutes when the games don’t count yet.

One last note, Gentry is quoted as saying there will be some guys who don’t play on Saturday (https://twitter.com/Jim_Eichenhofer/status/781909387560366080). I hate vague statements like this, so it’s anyone’s guess who he’s referring to. Good luck!
