Exactly, people seem to think that governments are made up of perfect angels rather than the most corrupt criminals you’ll find anywhere. I’d rather have ESPN, NFL, NBA, MLB, etc making sure fd and dk are treating customers fairly rather than some corrupt criminals with guns.

Anyone who played online poker understands how contradicting our government is when it comes to these types of things. Wall Street – totally legal. Online poker? No! You gamble-holics! Sinners!

Can’t help but blame the sites for the adds. They didn’t just kick a seemingly sleeping dog, they set the thing on fire. When you read any comments about DFS from people who don’t play, everyone of them is negative. Public perception is important, and now with the other factors that have surfaced, its created the perfect climate for states to start over reacting. I realize DFS has issues that need addressing, but it appears as if they are now only addressing them because someone accidentally tweeted something he shouldn’t have. That also makes things look way worse. I guess this was bound to happen at some point.

Fellow Reno gambler here. Bummer, huh? I found out about this on the RG forum this morning…no email from FD or DK. Confirmed with FD support, withdrew balances from both, closed accounts.
Do you know anything about fantasy sports available at casinos, as I’ve seen mentioned here? I’ve never seen that at my sports book.

I tried to listen, I did! Now what shall we do supreme leader?

Nothing. It’s too late now in my eyes. The damage has been done. The complaints should have went to this FSTA that I didn’t even know existed. I said there is a right way and a wrong way to do things and the way everyone handled it put us in the situation we’re in now. I think this FSTA should have jumped in 2 weeks ago. Where were there and are they even doing anything now?

“Rigged”? No. There’s a difference between a game being rigged (like, say, slot machines in Vegas casinos, for example) and some bad apples using inside information inappropriately, which more likely than not happened. But, if the game were “rigged”, then guys like me wouldn’t be profitable on a month to month basis. I haven’t hit any HUGE GPP scores (like, for example, Haskell did CONSISTENTLY in high-variance MLB in at LEAST the month of August), but I’ve finished high enough, often enough, to make a profit overall. That doesn’t happen in a “rigged” game. If you play the same slot machine over the course of time, you’re GOING to lose. THAT is a “rigged” game. DFS is not “rigged”, and it’s not “broken.” It’s just in need of a bit of scrubbing, and BADLY in need of leadership, which DK & FD are not currently providing much of. I cringe whenever I see a Robins interview.

Finally. Someone who doesn’t have their head up their ass. Must be nice to see the sunshine, huh? lol

Can’t believe how much those ads suck. Are 22-year-olds making these marketing decisions? I did see a decent DK add last week…the one where the guys is looking at his phone while carrying a baby. Probably not gonna win over many spouses though…

This is what happens when things are left unregulated. A few greedy people in the industry want everything for themselves. I still don’t understand how a few handful of people win most of the money. I have heard of an edge, but that’s more than a slight edge. Even in Vegas the casinos only have a small edge. WTF. Some people are going to be looking for jobs if fantasy goes down.

Just because you get some crumbs doesn’t mean the game isn’t rigged. There are players collecting massive prizes and you are happy with your crumbs. If you play often enough you realize how hard it is to place at the top of tournaments on a consistent basis no matter how much homework you do, but somehow some people have no problem doing it. I guess we all just need to build better line ups.

I and many others have done ok using the same resources the rest of us at RG have had. I would never had the level of cashes I’ve had without the players everyone wants reduced or removed.

The companies really need to be proactive about the gray areas in dfs that are allowed. The scandals are just the beginning. When the Feds start digging and find out about the scripts people are using. There goes the game of skill argument and bye bye dfs.

Just listened to Dan’s podcast on the situation in Nevada and I have to say I’m a little disappointed by his take. Let me say I respect Dan as an industry pioneer and am a faithful follower of his. But to call casino operators morons and call for the FSTA to boycott Las Vegas is a little over the top. I understand his frustration but can we please just accept it and figure out how this industry is going to move forward. The leaders of this industry need to come together and fight to fix it. There is enough money being played that states are going to be more interested in getting their cut than shutting it down, but there are some issues that need to be resolved.

Yep! Turned mine off to DFS as well. Oblivious to surroundings, neglecting your baby… Subsequent divorce lawyer… DRAFTKINGS!

If you notice my profile pic, it is from the Draftking’s commercial where the guy is ignoring the hot chick grinding on him at the office Christmas Party.

DFS sites have to get together and present a united front here and have a clear strategy in place:
#1: Get some winning grinders out to the media for interviews – guys who have won money fairly consistently over several years. Get them to tell their story about the skill involved, how much time they put into it, etc…
#2: Start equating DFS with trading stocks – building a portfolio of players, use of algorithms, “investment”, hedging strategies, daytrading, etc…
#3: Use better terminology that isn’t associated with gambling – Stop calling them DFS “games” or “tournaments” or “contests”. Stop calling us “players”.
#4: Threaten a boycott of Vegas – no DFS events there, DFS players band together and agree to stay away

This sounds like you were at the FSTA conference in 2013? (yep, it was said.)

  • tomac

    To recap:

    The game’s not rigged.
Yes, the game is rigged, but you are a fool if you think that it affects you.
We need the sharks and scripting in order for the not rigged rigged game to succeed.
The scripted sharks win 90% of the money, but you have a 50/50 chance of winning some of it too.
If the scripted sharks who win 90% of the money in the not rigged rigged gane stopped playing, your chances at winning would decrease.

That fact that there was no mention of season long fantasy in the NGCB notice makes me think this all about protecting the special interests of the casinos. How many of their residents play in pay season long leagues on CBS or with their friends? Are these people all in violation of the law now? What in their analysis differentiates dfs from season long? Seems to me the NGCB shouldn’t be a legal arm of the casinos. I’m sure an investigation of their practices could produce quite a bit of illegal and corrupt material.

On a side note, yes Draftkings, apparently “This is the fantasy football season that could change it all.” THANKS ASSHOLES.
