I better start researching now. The player pool starts out at 665

I’m sure at least half the player pool can be deleted just by excluding most of the starters

I’m really hoping we hear he is going to get at least 2 quarters of run, but WR Kelvin Harmon has been a beast at Redskins camp from what I’ve heard. I’ll be having my shares of him for sure this week

    This is downright cruel

Most players in the pool aren’t even worth considering. What you need to focus on are thin position groups on each team. WR will still be difficult to whittle down, but the others needn’t be so daunting.

At QB, there’s multiple teams like the Bears and the Dolphins that only have three QBs on their rosters. CHI in particular won’t play Biscuit in Preseason Week 1 (or perhaps the entire preseason), so you’re almost certainly looking at Chase Daniel starting and Tyler Bray playing most of the game. MIA only has three QBs and they haven’t even decided which one is the starter yet. NE could give us three quarters of Jarrett Stidham. Life is full of possibilities.

At RB, the Colts essentially have three roster locks, one guy on PUP/NFI who apparently doesn’t realize his season is probably over by NFL rule, and two guys who will actually take snaps this week (against their former team, no less). The Bears are basically the same thing, but with a rookie return specialist added to the mix. The Seahawks have a couple roster locks, a couple fantasy-irrelevant fullbacks, two guys who’ve been with the team for years without contributing more than a couple memorable games between them, and a rookie who actually caught the football in college. You can easily rule out 80-90% of the players at this position and still have a lot of interesting options to think about.

At TE, you could do a lot worse than locking in Noah Fant. Why would his opportunities go down from last week? They were forcing the ball to him, looking for some answers, and I don’t think they got any yet. PHI runs a very TE-friendly offense, and off the top of my head, I think they’re down to no more than three healthy backups for meaningful PT.

DST you just play the Ravens each week in preseason unless you know better. It’s a great place to start this week. I also think DEN, MIA, and PHI are especially interesting.

WR’s the toughest and most important to get right, because that’s how fantasy football always works. It’s the most volatile position, has the most upside, is the largest position group on NFL teams, and is the largest position group on fantasy roster. No way around it.

Eat the Kyler Murray chalk or fade? What other QB would be a viable option??

  • bucherpsu08

I’ll fire up Trace McSorley just cause I’m a PSU homer.

Haskins for the Redskins. He needs a lot of work

I’ll have a couple shares but I think he only plays like a quarter. Colts, Bills, Titans, Ravens, Patriots, Bears, Texans, Seahawks, and Falcons should all have viable options

    anybody on calloway as wr?

  • karonica

first shot at preseason took me almost 3 hours to sift thru data. lots of good research material on rg tho

  • mciama2000

I think Kliff already stated Murray might only get a series or 2 if things go well.

The Browns want Garret Gilbert to win the backup QB job. He was arguably the best player in the AFA earlier this year.

He’s my lock at the moment. Pharoh Brown should get plenty of PT as well. He looked good in the team scrimmage over the weekend.

Jaguars/Ravens, Patriots/Lions and Packers/Texans are all holding joint practices this week. These practices can serve as a fill-in for preseason snaps for a lot of vets.

Good point. Lots of talk on Pats radio along those lines, especially for the older vets.

Jakobi Meyers had a solid day at practice today against the Lions. Could be someone to watch for this week as he tries to cement a roster spot. Getting a good amount of buzz

Yeah, based on that I’d say Kyler isn’t playable at all.

Last year what made Calloway kinda great was that Hue Jackson decided that he would “punish” him by making him play every single snap. I doubt that’s how Freddie Kitchens rolls because no other HC in the league would have done that either.

I view Calloway as a presumptive starter who showed up to camp out of shape—which doesn’t increase my interest in him right now—and is being put on notice by the team. That doesn’t mean they need to play him extensively in the earliest preseason game. I’ll stay away unless I find some reason to expect PT.

This is probably a great idea. As PookieMan69 (nice) pointed out, BAL and JAX are holding joint practices this week, which makes it less likely we see any Lamar Jackson in the game. RGIII is nursing a fractured hand. That leaves just Trace and Joe Callahan as their QBs for the whole game.

Helps too that Trace is a rushing fiend being groomed for a role as Taysom Hill or even a 1:1 backup for Jackson. Love that call.

I’m a little worried about Meyers being a trap, he’s been the best receiver in camp and Brady targeted the hell out of him today in joint practice. Think we could end up seeing more Berrios / Harry / Inman in week 1. Of course Meyers is an undrafted rookie, so Bill could just leave him in for reps, but wouldn’t surprise if he got a 0 or ends up breaking the slate as the best receiver.

Feeling pretty good about my Twitter lists of beat reporters for the season. Trimmed some folks who’ve moved on, rotated a few between teams, and mostly added new writers. The feeds could be a little thicc with the new additions, which may lead to pruning in the future. In an ideal world each list would be just large enough to be comprehensive rather than exhaustive.

My personal recommendation is to follow one favorite beat writer from each each team and check the lists when you’re looking for a deeper dive (during preseason preparation, for example). Following all 32 lists every day is not practical. I only follow 54 accounts currently and it’s still hours every day if I want to read every tweet.

Than you better be playing Miles Sanders.

Where’s Seth Yates when you need him?

Are stacks not an option in LineupHQ for preseason NFL?

  • manBEAST

Am I missing something or is the DK slate for Thurs/Fri/Sat games? If thats the case no thanks, I prefer daily fantasy not all weekend long fantasy, should at least be split into Thurs then another slate for Fri/Sat.

edit: I see it now seems to be just the Thurs games hard to tell on the app carry on!
