After the early slate. Don’t think either game will be high scoring, but Im 95% Price (Mtl starter). Can’t see Mtl loosing again . Tis possible tho. Ott will be flying high, big win and back home…

Meh. Just throwing all my NFL winnings away on NHL it seems. Bad streak has to end sometime, might as well be on an after-thought FD 2-game Saturday early slate. MTL2 + STL1 seems obvious but I’d just like to stay above a cashline before this week is over. :(

It’s Allen! I don’t know if my Habs can lose again to the Sens, but I guess it would humble them down, so I’m okay with it!

Thanks. Yeah I wasn’t sure. Only thing Im worried about, the Sens will have a couple of those periods that then only get 3shots! I can see Sens starter being the better fantasy option…

For those of you who play showdown more regularly, is it still worth it to play a goalie even if you expect a game to be 5-4 (or high scoring in general).

Im curious at what threshold fading goalies is worth it

It’s kind of hard to say as volume matters the most. A goalie hitting 15 DK points will almost always be optimal, but maybe only in flex if it’s a 5-4 game.

When I say optimal, I don’t mean for an actual optimal lineup, because those are just impossible to hit. I mean winning lineups.

I know you play on FD like me. I mainly play small stakes GPP’s on FD but any lineup I build I pair a few $2 or $5 100-man contests with it. As an example on tonight’s $4.44 breakaway if you finish in 12th out of over 10,000 people you win $100. If I finish in 1st out of 100 people in the $5 you win $125 and the scores are typically lower there. I build a few lineups each night then put them in GPP’s and these 100 man contests (they are 3 entry max) and satellite contests. The 100 man contests are not guaranteed and not a ton fill for hockey (main slate only forget about small slate) so you sort of have to keep tabs to make sure you don’t miss out. I have some bad nights but the strategy has kept me pretty profitable the last few years on FD. Just my two cents

DK’s practice of pricing backups the same as starters is beyond frustrating. In 90% of cases, they are much less worthwhile plays! DK’s pricing only would make sense if a win was a much larger share of a goalie’s expected point total.

Thanks for the support! I already have a very similar approach. I play 1LU/slate and I play almost every slate. Maybe $15-$40/slate depending on the size and how I feel about it. I spread it around, always play the big $4ish GPP along with a $1/$2 20-person, often a $5/3person (avoiding Cicama and similar foes when possible) and I tend to max enter the $.05 and/or a bunch in the $.25 depending on how much they fill. One of them tends to have overlay nightly. $2-$5 SE contests as well. Lots of satellites which tends to pay off in the long run.

I don’t like the 100 person contests, the payout % is low – I try to stick with contests that have at least a 23%+ cashline and the .05/.25 are usually closer to 30+% but lately I just haven’t been cashing. I’ve had enough success over the last few years and last season I was killing it on NHL.

It’s a game of patience and it can certainly be streaky. I just haven’t had a bad streak like this in a LONG time – something like 80+% of the slates this month I’ve come up short and very rarely more than a goal(or winning goalie) away from cashing. And I’ve been stupidly chasing losses instead of accepting that it’s a bad week and trusting my process. Maybe today’s the day!

I agree, 100%. We should petition DK to makes some changes for next season. They wont listen to low stakes low volume guys (like me) like most of us here, so we would need to get some highrollers involved as well. But I suspect, they are the ones that like it the way it is. But we know , everyone can’t be pleased.

Today’s F/D “I paid attention” bonus alert: Price is anywhere from 10-20% owned on the 2-game slate in the contests I’m in.

Let’s see how that works out. :)

12.8% in my DK$10. it’s almost like these early slates are rake free to anyone who checks 5 min before lock.

I like that approach too. I’ll play the 20 man and under as well but usually more on smaller slates as they fill better than the 100. I build 3-6 lineups per main slate but I enjoy building the lineups as much as watching how they do so building only one would be hard for me to do. I cannot build too many though or my results always stink need to just pick a few teams and lines I like and go with it. Didn’t start playing satellites till last year and don’t know why I wasn’t adding them onto lineups sooner. I’ve won $333 Monster ticket on a $1 satellite entry which is crazy to me but if you have a really good lineup it’s not easy to win but it’s possible.

I have had to change my strategy a lil on FD this year since they changed lineup construction by adding the UTIL spots. I’ve been playing more PP units than I did in previous years. I think as the schedule gets more condensed and teams get tired, PP time will be even more important. Plus on FD you get extra points for PP scoring. I also feel we have never had to deal with “chalk” in NHL like this year which has been problematic on some slates. Always trust the process though and yours has been working over time so don’t get away from it after a little bad stretch. It only takes one to make you quickly forget about the bad stretch.

Thought I was being clever by stacking the Sens PP1, so of course their PP2 gets the first goal. DFS!

This isn’t a direct response to your decision today, just a general comment….

Im a gambler, I just like to play. Poker, Casino, DFS, it’s all the same to me. I understand the EV+-, but I put little weight on it. I find poker has it’s similarities with DFS as well. I once was at a final table, chip leader and I called a low stack with 3 2 offsuit. Guy who went allin, had AJ suited. BAD!! ev- play there eh the pros would say. Flop came A 3 2. And I won the hand with two pair. Moral of this story, never be afraid to take a ‘calculated’ risk. PP1 is chalk, use some cheap guys on pp2 or what have you. It wont always work, but when it does, it is a great feeling. Would I have called against a Big stack? Prob not… That guy was some mad though, and others at the table were shaking their heads. It was priceless, and I ended up chopping first place in that tourney. This is why I enjoy gambling.

You should see the EV +- guys face’s, when I split a winning hand at the Blackjack table! lol But that’s a storey for another day…
