Okay, so this thread isn’t really for the pros. Its more for the intermediate players who are trying to build a bankroll and not be a total fish. I only started playing MLB DFS in May, and I have to admit, I’m hooked. I find it very fun to research and build a lineup and then check my phone as the night goes on(although obviously this can be very frustrating if you’re losing). I started out playing 50/50s, prob $5 or $10 each night with one lineup. I was doing OK at best, and then I finally hit a winning streak. I would win 4 out of 5, 8 out of 10, etc. My friend started asking for my lineups because he would see the scores I was producing nightly and he wanted in on the action. Eventually, my winning streak came to an end. I was winning, losing, winning, losing. It felt like I would never build a winning streak again, and now I’m mostly losing. It’s weird, the second I started doing more research, I started losing more frequently. I’m starting to think I’m over-researching, which is crazy because I don’t feel like I’m spending a lot of time on the research to begin with. I research all the standard stuff; Vegas lines, implied run totals, BvP, batting splits, weather, ballpark, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. I feel like I need to do something different to get me out of this slump. Am I focusing too much on 50/50s to begin with? I’ve probably played over 90% of my bankroll on 50/50s, and sometimes I’ll throw in a dollar on the small single entry mini-bunts on Fan Duel(I play Fan Duel), and I’v won a couple times, but only a few bucks here and there. Can anyone give me some advice? I’ve pretty much been taking this journey on my own so far, and I’ve just been learning as I play. But I don’t want it to get to a point where it’s just not worth it to play anymore. Any advice for a beginner/novice?

For a huge main slate like today, what format do you think gives me the best odds of cashing? 100 man 50/50 or 10-man experienced players excluded 50/50? I feel like the smaller the field, the less variance between players, the harder it becomes. Am i wrong?

I’ve been playing for coming up on 3 years. Have gone from playing anywhere from $5 a day to playing $150-200 a day. Have tried all cash, all GPP, a mix of both. I’ve basically settled on doing somewhere between 4 and 10 lineups a day on FD and 2-4 a day on DK. Usually each one with somewhere between $6-12 on each lineup. In NFL I’ll play a good mixture of cash and GPP’s with a much higher volume but for MLB and NBA I’m exclusively GPP. Maybe some people who are exclusively GPP win more often than they lose but for me I lose money on a lot more slates than I win it on but I recognize that I’m reliant on the big GPP paydays to keep me in the black and I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to do that.

I think what format you play is dependent on what you goal is. Do you A) love playing but don’t/can’t afford to lose money or B) love playing and want to have the chance to win big? If it’s A then cash games are for you and you’ll get the enjoyment of playing but probably never win or lose much or B have a chance to win something but will lose more often than you win. I also would recommend the $1 100-mans on FD. They’re realistic to win and will give you a 25x payout on only $1.

My #1 advice is never bet too much on MLB. It just has so much freaking variance to it some nights you’re like WTF. I mainly just do GPPs for MLB. Tbh there’s no point of even doing cash games in it.

In cash you mainly just wanna find all the good one offs in the best positions because if your stack fails your night is over within minutes.
