    Gold – McIlroy

I was already on Rory as my pick a couple days ago and just saw this pick from Matt Vincenzi of the Action Network. I don’t love the added attention or eyes on Rory but at least it supports my thoughts.

    Rory McIlroy (+1200)

After the Open Championship, Rory McIlroy made some discouraging comments about his upcoming trip to Tokyo for the Olympics, expressing a lack of desire to represent Ireland at Kasumigaseki Country Club: “I don’t know if there is much to look forward to, it is obviously going to be a very different environment.”

While that may be a potential concern, there is a lot to like about Rory McIlroy this week. His iron game has really come around as he ranks third in the field in Strokes Gained: Approach. Kasumigaseki Country Club on paper is a perfect course for Northern Irishman.

A Tom Fazio design, the layout of the course is very similar to both Quail Hollow and Firestone Country Club; two courses where Rory has had incredible success. McIlroy’s best golf often comes on long and classical tree-lined layouts, and if further evidence is needed after his win at Quail Hollow back in May, he ranks first in the field in Strokes Gained: Total on Tom Fazio designs in his past 36 rounds.

The 32-year-old has also had success playing in no-cut events in Asia, as he won the 2019 WGC-HSBC Champions in 2019 at Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, China.

With the favorite Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau out due to COVID-19, I see a lot of value backing Rory McIlroy to bring a Gold medal home to Ireland.

Wow BIF, a pretty good endorsement. LMAO, on a week i break my loose rules, I am tinkering like crazy. not just LU’s but I also have to change contests around. Can someone say good things about Campos or Romain (MR. Lettuce) Langasque. Just need to screw myself some more this week.

Sure. Are they playing somewhere in the Caribbean this week? If so, sign me up.

Of all the takes on this forum, perhaps the absolute most surprising to me is I am the only one to pick Mac Hughes to medal.

  • JimKronlund

    Gold: Vegas 75%
    Silver: Miggy or Hughes 60%
    Bronze: Rory 50%

Yep , Rory MBE is a big fan of Tom Fazio courses.

Is he Irish, Northern Irish or British.

    Take your pick.

I get the appeal, but I’d much rather have local hero Hideki rather than a disinterested Rory Mac in my LUs. Hideki becomes a Japanese golf legend if he wins gold. If Rory Mac wins his medal ends up in storage behind cups of his amateur wins. IMO

    Gold : (Upset special) Ancer.

Here ye, here ye…I had not seen Ancer’s name even mentioned all week even though he was the first guy I placed into a lineup pool. We could be geniuses or idiots, but we are clearly on an island with our choices. I like islands. Good luck.

I have a persistent Ancer man crush. I just make him 25% exposure every week.

I can’t help it. My wife thinks I should talk to a therapist about it.

Maybe it will help you get over it to consider the fact that he probably smells like an ashtray and tequila…unless yer into that kinda thing

I’ve always been holding out hope that Rickie would rebound and I could go back to him.

I have a similar affliction with James Harden in the NBA.

Over an inch of rain last night, which will make the 7,500 yard course play even longer. Rory was playing his practice round with a new putter. They say if you can hit fairways, you can make lots of birdies. Miss the fairways and it’s going to be a long day.

Don’t know about KBarn, but that’s definitely a dude I could chill out with.

I’ve got 3 cases of beer. That should get me through the next 4 nights/mornings of Olympic golf.

Tinkered out Samooja. Tinkered in Zanotti. He just fits the course better at that price.

No fans at tourney for support but a media shitstorm surrounds Hideki at every movement when he is in Japan – I don’t see how that benefits him (besides a little course history) where guys who normally have deal with the fans and that circus should appreciate this more.
