This week is not exciting me at all, but do need a good OAD pick. Leaning Hatton thus far.

I have a feeling that a random average PGA guy will win it. Someone like Glover, Kisner or Varner, who does well enough to stay on tour but never wins.

So this is really going to happen?

$4M for a win is huge and against a smaller field. PGA will need to step up their purses.

I won’t be interested. An 18 tournament tour for only 48 golfers. Of course Lee Westwood thinks it’s a no brainer. He’s almost 50 years old and could make one hell of a jackpot in the twilight of his career.

I like 125-150 person fields where you have to make the cut to move on and make money. Carl Spackler in Caddyshack dreamed of the Cinderella golf story. It ain’t happening when a small group of multi millionaires compete for more millions.

It’s like reducing any Big 4 team sport by 65%. People get sick of the same old very quickly. They want an underdog to root for.

Local connections to this week’s event :

DJ is a native and Coastal Carolina grad, but he’s obviously moved on to bigger things. Does he care enough to give it his best a week before the US Open ?

Lucas Glover is an ambassador of the course but currently a Florida resident and just shot over par in the US Open qualifier today in Jupiter. I don’t know how fast he can escape his wife before a barroom brawl breaks out.

Other Clemson/SoCar grads and SC residents in the field are Doc Redman, Jon Byrd, Ben Martin, DJ Trahan, McGirt, Nesmith, Scott Brown, Mark Anderson, and Rudi Pujols favorite Bill Haas. Not exactly a who’s who of who’s good but that will be a theme this week, deciding who can play the weekend and who won’t.

The UK contingent is highly priced this week. I don’t trust any of them, but given the weakness of the field, it’s probably justified.

Kisner will be part of my core this week, but I can’t bring myself to take him in the OAD.

I am sitting 10th out of 1,689 teams in the big league I am in so each week I am feeling the pressure now!

Danny Willett a WD ahead of Palmetto Championship

Was thinking of going 💯 on Danny. Back to the drawing board.

Not really loving anyone up top this week.

If you believe that the oddsmaker knows best…realize that Pat Kizzire missed the cut @ $7300 last week and is priced at $9100 this week. Also despite being a bit more expensive on DK, Fitz is a +100 underdog to Hatton (120) for the tourney in head to head play.

Sahith Theegala left Columbus at 530 am today. Had never seen the course before.
Was +3 thru 9 holes and just qualified for the US Open.

    7600+ yards !!

Not sure that screams play short hitting Kisner; the front nine (par 36) scorecard is almost 4000 yards and the back nine (par 35) is over 3600 yards.

Random Question: Anyone have experience taking Adderall to gain focus while playing golf?

There are only two types of players, those who keep their nerves under control and win championships, and those who do not.

I like that, it is a part of the competition that rarely is noticed or acknowledged.

Impossible to pick a squad and feel good about it this week lol

Quite the contrast to majors where every single lineup you make feels optimal

They should designate 4 tournaments per year (the ones right before majors) and give the top 25 korn ferry guys all a shot…I just don’t think it does the tour or the sport any good to have some of the names in the field this week playing legitimate PGA Tour golf

    Danny Willett
    @Danny_Willett
So the pain that kept me awake most of Saturday night turned out to be appendicitis! Operation went well, also removed a hernia, add it to having Covid in March, wisdom tooth out in April…all in all, been a great year!

Yeah now that you say that and I am looking more into it I am probably going to back off a bit. Will probably still have him in a couple of lineups (will only play a handful in this tournament) since he is good with a 4 or 5 iron in his hand, but the scrambling and around the green stats are down this year as well. I just like that South Carolina angle with Kis and the fact that he plays this course pretty often.

  • Wander_Bread

What a round 2 from Rickie in Columbus.

If he ends up with a birdie on this 18th hole once they restart today it looks like he will qualify after a very poor first round. Otherwise, going to be a big playoff for one spot

I really want to see Rickie in the field – he seems to have found his game a bit.

Maybe the heavy hitters can drive over trouble, but “Congaree is not a bomber’s paradise,” said Kisner, noting the contoured fairways tend to funnel balls into trouble spots. His advice: Bring your best short game.

“The run-off areas and slopes around the greens will get your attention,” he said. “There are a lot of links characteristics.”

Rickie pars and one of the amateurs birdies 18 and down goes Rickie.

Yes this is a tough week to find anything to be comfy with

There are more than a few KFT guys here this week

I’m looking Percy and Anderson’s way right now; how about Ernst @ 6K?

Yah I get it – I just look at this scorecard and I hear Kisner saying “I can’t win there but they still pay pretty good for 30th” 😂

Tough break for Fowler as Two amateurs birdied 18 to nip Rickie but they are pretty damn good ams – Cole Hammer and Pierceson Coody are both high ranked on WAGR (13th and 3rd in world) and play at Univ of Texas.
