I want to talk about how horrible the payouts are for many big tournaments on DraftKings. Makes absolutely no sense to me and I want to see if anyone agrees…

In the poker world, a final table will normally secure a decent score even with a 9th or 8th place finish. So even if you make the top 9 you are reasonably happy.

The DK payouts are setup so that 4th-9th place should come with set aside counseling and suicide watch prevention consulting. Doesn’t make any sense at all…Its a total marketing ploy.

They pay out 25% of the field and then make it so 1st place is MASSIVE and then 6th-9th place is devastating.

Look at the big $600k NFL this week…ARE YOU JOKING ME with these payouts? The difference between 1st and 7th can often be one pass at the end of the game and yet they make it a 99k difference, its really stupid and I think a big issue they need to address:

    1st $100,000.00
    2nd $50,000.00
    3rd $25,000.00
    4th $10,000.00
    5th $5,000.00
    6th $2,500.00
    7th – 10th $1,000.00

There are options for a more even payout at the top in other tournaments. I personally love the chance of being able to hit a massive payout. If I was a “pro” I may not agree but the chances of hitting 6 figures is what draws me in. If that’s not your thing just stick to the other tournaments. But they don’t have enough entries to pay $100k to first and $10k to 10th.

The problem is THESE TOURNAMENTS FILL.

Actually, the larger tournaments have not been filling, at least not the FanDuel Sunday Million. The problem is they continue to reduce the guaranteed prize pool to reduce overlay and yet keep 1st place at $1 million (36% of the pool this week which is absolutely ridiculous).

I noticed that this week. Last week they had it set up for 504k entries and 2nd place was 200k. This week 468k entries or something like that and only 150k for 2nd.

The $7 Sunday Millions on FD is a joke it overlayed by 50k entries last week and hopefully does again this week. This week it’s 36.3% paid out to first place. Just terrible for everyone entered that doesn’t place in the top 3.

Keep doing what you’re doing Fantasy Draft….I’ve been playing on FD & DK for 3 yrs but I’m getting more and more intrigued by moving my action over to your site.

I fully intended to move some balance over to fantasydraft for football season.
Then I got on a DK roll.
Once it stops I’m back to fantasydraft.

    Done with FanDuel.

FanDuel’s payout structures are getting so bad they’re almost unplayable. I’ve reduced my play each week. All the main FD NFL tournaments now have more top-heavy structures than the Milly Maker on DK by far. I’m at the point of playing 90+% on DK now. I’d happily shift some of that back to FD if they stop making terrible tournaments that systematically make hardly anyone profitable.

I’m getting very close to that myself. I still like what DK has been offering, but I can’t even find a well-structured tournament on FD anymore.

Fantasy Draft states that their payouts for prizes don’t happen until the next day and their withdrawal process takes 2-3 days. Draftkings definitely has a better payout timeline. What y’all think?

Don’t think it matters too much. While I’m a bit hesitant to play on any site that isn’t fd or dk at this point, I’ve withdrawn from fantasydraft a couple times, and never had any issues. As long as I get my money in a somewhat timely fashion that’s all that matters, and that’s never been an issue with me for fantasy draft.

Right, but if you do an early only slate on DK, it’s nice to have that money to put into the late slate. (for people like me that don’t have TOO much money to throw at it) ;-)

Our payouts are generally very fast usually same day. We have to included a longer timeline for use cases that could take longer.

I signed up for FantasyDraft. Going to play the $25 tournament this week and see how it goes. $15k for first place in the biggest prize pool of the week is a little disappointing, but oh well. If the interface and all that is good the volume (and payouts) will likely pick up.

I just like the idea of knowing 6 or 7 figures is a possibility each week, no matter how slim.

Agreed. The hope of the huge payout is part of the thrill of playing. However, the min-cash being less than double your money is ridiculous.

Personally I think they should make the grand prize a half million and spread the other half million out. I don’t think they’re going to lose much interest for having a 500,000 grand prize vs 1,000,000. I think they just like being able to advertise that they make a new millionaire every week. Plus there wouldn’t be quite the sting of missing 1st by a point and a half.

I missed the 300k tournaments with top $30k first price from a few years ago, it had a very balance payout.. Now they have a 200k tournament with a 50k top payout and minimum cash like 1.5x of the entry fee.. its no longer 2x. They forgot that for their stupidity they almost killed an industry with stupid decisions (I even hate the commercials every 10 minutes on TV). Now they forgot about their mistakes and they started raising the rake.. Sometimes I feel like the industry Is run by rookies..

Have always been 100% DK, but just started playing a little on FD because I like their $4 price point for NBA GPP’s but man their payout structures are so bad. Tonight is $100k for first and $500 for 10th, that seems insane to me.

  • mambaland

i complained about FD payouts and was told not to play if i dont like it

  • TheRyanFlaherty

Sadly, I think it falls upon deaf ears, because if you’re a knowledgeable player that reasonably can grind out a small profit and are worried about/calculate things like rake, payout percentages, prize pools, etc that puts you in the minority.

Or, at least the numbers I’ve seen, and their actions lead me to believe that’s true.
It’s catered to the extremes – the small percentage of high volume multi-entry players who they need to appease, and structuring things to reel in and hook the casual player who treats it like the lotto.

It’s frustrating. At this point I’ve become resigned to what I can control – mainly playinv my money (and more money) where I’m seeing the most profitability.
