    RG Chief Meteorologist

I don’t think the weather edge here in Farmingdale NY is quite as pronounced as what we saw last week (which ended up being a huge advantage), but I still do have a preferred side.

THURS – Showers very early, steady winds.
AM – I would expect any rain to be over with before or right around our first tee times. Winds will initially be around 5mph, but should pick up closer to 10 mph for the majority of the morning.
PM – Winds will hold right at (or a hair under) 10mph through the afternoon.

FRI – Increasing winds, PM rain
AM – Winds will start around 5mph, gradually increasing to a bit over 10mph by the late AM.
PM – Winds continue to tick up, should hold around 15mph sustained through the afternoon with gusts over 20, the windiest it gets all tournament. Isolated showers and storms are also possible.

SAT & SUN – Perfect golf weather.

Overall – I always think the key is avoiding the highest winds, a Thurs PM / Fri AM split allows you to miss those big winds on Friday afternoon, so that’s my preference. It does come at a cost, because Thursday morning is the best weather we have through the first two days (lightest winds and a damp/soft course), but since we can’t do both, I’d rather avoid the worst weather than target the best.

    Happy Grinding,
    Kevin

Winds can also be an advantage depending on the direction. These long ass par 4’s will be much easier to reach with a helping wind. Can you give us wind direction and speed on each hole hour by hour for the Thursday and Friday rounds? Thanks in advance Kev.

    Thanks Kevin.

The wind direction is forecasted for NE. Looking at the holes I see the wind being an advantage on 4, 5, 7, 10 and 15 all which are long holes with the wind at your back. Long holes where you will be hitting into the wind 3, 9, 13 and 16.

So take that for what’s its worth
