Interesting weather at the BMW Championship, because we do have some peak winds we can avoid, but due to the smaller field and “shotgun start”, there isn’t a great range of tee-times to take advantage of:
Thurs – Winds start at a decent clip, increase through the afternoon. Rain comes in after golf in the evening.
Thurs AM – Dry. Winds begin around 10mph, but will increase to around 15mph by noon.
Thus PM – Only very isolated rain chances. Winds from noon through sunset will be over 15mph, with wind gusts close to 25mph. Heaviest of the rain/storms will pick up after the round ends, and it could be a soaker.
FRI – A few lingering showers/storms, with winds decreasing through the day, and an all around soggy course thanks to storms late Thurs night.
Fri AM – Could see some rain, and possibly a t-storm, but rain chances will remain fairly low. Winds start off at around 10mph, and will decrease a bit by noon.
FRI PM – Again only isolated showers remain, and winds will drop closer to 5mph during the afternoon hours. Heavy rain will kick off again late Friday, likely after the round ends.
SAT – Very windy.
SUN – Nice.
Overall – Still feel a bit handcuffed by the congested tee times, so any weather related choices you make will only have minimal impacts. That being said, there’s still a clear favorite in my mind. Winds winds picking up through the day Thursday, and decreasing throughout the day on Friday, it only makes sense to favor those golfers with early Thurs times and later Friday times. Just keep in mind that because everyone is teeing off within 2 hours of one another, the overall difference in average wind speed between the “good times” and the “bad times” is something like 1-2mph.
