Live. Extremely weak field on the upper end this week due to the WGC Match Play.

  • walkoff9

Fantasy Fued is running contests for the match play if anyone really wants to play that.

is delaet in puerto rico? guy seems like a solid wd risk

Or are you trying to scare ppl off him? Trust me, post that wherever you like. It would not change his percent of ownership by any measurable way that is humanly possible.

No he is just delaet, he has a history of wds, I want to make sure he is actually in puerto rico right now

7/26/15 RBC Canadian Open W/D 72 This at his own Country’s tournament.
That is his only WD in 2 years.
You are simply trying to mislead people.

History of WD’s yes and no in my opinion as He did have severe back problems a few years ago ultimately leading to the same surgery that Tiger later had and a Tour approved medical leave/extension for 6+ months. His last WD that I remember was at Canadian Open last year and he was playing with injured thumb that he had wrapped up and publicly said he would have pulled out of any other tour event but wanted to give it a go as it was in Canada. He was in obvious pain if you saw him and finally WD’d in RD 2. Before that he had a back issue flare up in Asia (CIMB/HSBC) and was extra careful given it was 1st time since surgery and he was a million miles from home with a long flight ahead.

He also has a very recent history of calling out people for WD’s – including Patrick Reed on Twitter for his sore foot WD at Torrey Pines in horrible weather.

From a purely “pot calling kettle black” backlash perspective and a subsequent social media shit-storm, I highly doubt he has any non-medical emergency WD’s in him.

I’m from Canada and know a lot about DeLaet so I firmly believe he is no flake and doesn’t WD b/c he is playing poor and as far as everything I’ve read, he is 100% healthy.

“and doesn’t WD b/c he is playing poor”
I know your not trying to infer he is playing poor. He is playing some of his best golf.
Just making that clear for everyone else.

Correct I was inferring that his past WD’s were legit and the result of an injury.

While I wouldn’t say he is playing his best golf of his career, he is playing his best golf this season – as I said in a post a few weeks ago, he admittedly had a slow start on the West Coast swing (where he usually has 1-2 good finishes) which was in part due to the birth of twins (their first children) and is only now rounding into the form he usually shows earlier in the season.

Thoughts on ownership levels/best values in the 6k range? I’m probably going to end up with 2 out of Van Den Walt, Burgoon, Hubbard, Haotong. I would guess Hubbard is the highest owned out of that group and the others fairly close with maybe Haotong lowest. Currently leaning toward Haotong and Burgoon for greater upside. On the high end I am leaning toward McGirt, Kelly, and Busmester.

This week will be lower volume for me for sure as I am more of a feel player and ‘know what I don’t know’. I might reup on FF to have some action on the matchplay tournament too, although it occurs to me that my wife and kids are home all week so I won’t be able to watch it.

He wd last year at the farmers too (wouldn’t show anywhere because he never actually teed off). Was sick I think. O only remember cause I woke up and realized he wasn’t playing and he screwed me.

Someone was joking about Daly earlier, he may be a good punt here, made cut 3 straight years with a 10th last year. But speaking of wd risk…

I remember rooting for Billy Mayfair every week. Not saying he is going to be on my teams, but glad to see his name and hope he does well.

It will be interesting to see which handicapping factors prove to be most important. I was always better at lower level claiming races than stakes races in horse racing, so I’m taking a positive attitude into this week.

With the wind looking like it may potentially be an issue, is there anywhere reliable to find who are good wind players or who does a good job of keeping the ball low? It looks like the only measurement in PGA stats is Apex Height which is only on drives.

  • BIF

Ok, I think I’m done with my lineups barring a WD.

I have 19 different lineups – constructing the cash game one was by far the toughest as the field as a whole has missed the cut in well over 50% of the events played so this tourney lacks the usual cash game suspects (like Kooch, CH3, etc…).

I think I have only 24 different players rostered across the 19 lineups so my preference/process of not playing a large number of golfers was about the only thing that seemed normal for this event. I can honestly say there are 5 or 6 golfers on my lineups this week that I’m sure I have never rostered before.

Unfortunately I’m headed out of town on Thursday (10hr drive to see family for an extended long weekend) so won’t get to participate in the Thursday RG bitch-fest which could be epic this week with the names in this tournament !

I haven’t looked at it lately but the weekly RG article Searching for a Specialist links to his spreadsheet near the bottom and sometimes he looks at Wind among other factors (think Valspar had some wind stats)

I really do not see the benefit in Apex stats as they all know how to lower apex and will if wind dictates.

I agree and disagree. I think in general, a lot of them can hit a lower shot so the apex stats can be misleading and not 100% accurate, but I do think there are some guys who hit the ball high who probably aren’t as comfortable hitting low shots (especially into greens). Either way, stats won’t tell the whole story and are probably useless or at least much less useful than actual observation of someone playing in the wind.

  • JimKronlund

If the wind does become an issue all players will lower apex compared to their normal trajectory.
Then there are gust factors. Intermittent periods of 5-10 mph wind speed that changes almost shot to shot. As well as swirling wind that is just as unpredictable.
Myself I will leave wind as a variable that I cannot factor in. There are so many other variables in this tournament that I am not comfortable at all with. So I am dropping 200 entries to 100.
    Good Luck

    Player Notes from http://www.thefantasyfanatics.com/

Ian Poulter – Pay attention to his status, he’s first alternate for the match play event so if he gets in, he’ll WD from Puerto Rico.
Dean Burmester – Ranked 88 in OWGR, plays on the African Tour and has great recent form (in very weak fields of course)
    Jeff Overton – WD
Frankie Capan – He’s 16 and got an exemption for winning a Junior tournament earlier this year.
