Live. Extremely weak field on the upper end this week due to the WGC Match Play.

Add in the lack of coverage for the event and the bitching will be epic.

For serious I just realized today that the Saturday and Sunday rounds aren’t even on TV. The are broadcasting replays at night instead. That about puts me off this week completely I think.

The people in my twitter feed is always faster than any other media. PGA Tour live not covering I guess?

    Only match play coverage.

I just hope the shot tracker is a go for this event!

Meh im ok with the replays being at night. At least we can can watch it at sometime. I mean its hard to argue them showing it live when the matchplay is on. The general fan would rather watch Rory and Spieth instead George Mcneil of course. Better than nothing.

Shot Tracker did NOT work last year – just the wonderful:

    Shot 4 in the hole
    Shot 3 from the green
    Shot 2 from the fairway
    Shot 1 from the tee

But golf channel on Sat and sun are showing nothing. Match play in the morning but then it moves to NBC.

From noon to 4 they are showing crappy movies and feherty reruns, and then lpga golf prior to the rerun of this. What’s the point of golf channel if they aren’t gonna carry this tourney.

Also guessing since instead of hole pictures on the Pga app there are only written descriptions we will get very limited if any shot tracker this week.

Thurs and Friday rounds are LIVE on Golf Channel and pretty early in the morning (for those on MT and PT).

    Thurs 10:30am ET – 1:30pm ET
    Friday 10:30am ET – 1:30pm ET

Sat/Sun coverage is NOT live and on at 9pm ET both nights.

The main reason for no live coverage on the weekend is the Match Play of course. On Wed-Fri, they only play one match each so the GC coverage is at 2pm ET which gives them time to show the PRO before the match play. On Sat/Sun, there is 2 matches each day (Round of 16 & 8 on Sat, then Round of 4 & Final on Sunday) with Golf Channel showing the first match on Sat/Sun and NBC taking over for the afternoon matches those days. By 2pm ET when the Sat/Sun coverage on GC is over, the PRO is basically over so they are showing it later.

Sucks as a DFS’er but I’m sure we are the only ones (besides wives and family) that would watch it live over a potential Spieth or Rory vs Day or Scott match.

If any of you guys are into golf betting as well as dfs like I am here are my bets for wgc matchplay for tommorow.

    Mcdowell over day +175
    Haas over wood -135
    na over kaufman -120
    kuchar over lahiri-145

almost fired on horshel over koepka but didnt get a good enough number to risk it. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

I don’t like Kooch in that spot laying almost 150, Lahiri’s aggressive style could pose a match play problem.

My picks – a couple favs and a couple longer shots:
    Garcia over Westwood
    Snedeker over Hoffman
    Fitzpatrick over Phil
    Kizzire over Bubba

Fantasy feud is using WGC this week. Love that I get to have something to root for tomorrow

i like the fitzpatrick and kizzire bets but i worry about young guys playing in this for the first time. As far as lahiri he traveled all the way from India in TWO DAYS after a heartbreaking 2nd. Lahiri also hits it all over the place which is a big problem on a course only 6900 yards.

I agree with you on all fronts – I was just looking at matches where I though the wind may impact things and create more value and they are small wagers just so I have something to follow today before the PRO tomorrow.

if you’re betting, keep in mind that somebody being -150 against somebody in stroke play is not NEARLY as huge of a favorite as somebody being -150 against somebody in match … I mean, match play is going to be an equalizer for the most part, a lot easier to pull an upset or especially nip a draw against a far better player in a single match than it is over 18 holes of stroke play

roast me if you want I’ll slowly back away but it’s important .. if you’re used to looking at normal matches and going “no way -120!” keep in mind that that you have to be WAY WAY ahead of somebody to be more than -120 in match play ………… skewer me on the exact numbers if you want but hopefully you catch my drift

Sell tickets, pants, booze, golf widgets…..Did he ship his bus over to Puerto Rico for the event? Loved his twitter post with the “hot babes in Puerto Rico”

I agree with you somewhat. Honestly the odds i dont really consider all that much. I just bet who I think will win the match .Im not betting on huge favorites though cause thats not worth the risk . The only sport where I would consider betting a huge favorite -200 or more would be like boxing.

Agree – odds are also totally different if you push on a draw versus lose on a draw; some books offer 3-outcomes match odds and others just 2-outcome odds. With no extra holes in the Wed-Fri matches, the draw is a very possible outcome.

Puerto Rico Open weather update – it seems rain probability is increasing and becoming a higher likelihood (40-50%) on the weekend. Wind forecast is staying firm at 15-20 mph each day.

With water and sand everywhere, I hope this doesn’t turn into another carnage filled event like Torrey (on Sunday) or Honda/Doral. Limited TV coverage and no shot tracker will just make it worse.

y’all want to play this game? expected ownership on the following guys:

    Hoge
    Van Aswegen
    J Wagner
    Dawie
    Hubbard
    Burgoon

or insert your favorite 5500-6500 golfer here

i want to play whoever of that MESS is going to be highest owned. I have hoge highest rated but I feel like a lot of people are going to go for wagner so I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just block there. if wagner were to be I think 20%+ owned I’d flip to the block otherwise probably roll hoge?

also debating hoge/vanaswegen double punt or if I should trade van aswegen for another player depending on contest format ….

    lol, this is fun …

  • plako21

Hey Zammertime – I post that data weekly but the full summary pages get archived. Here’s the link to the $3 Birdie for last week:

    http://www.thefantasyfanatics.com/dfs/pga/ownership.cfm?viewContest=12

The ownership data for the 3, 27, 300, and $5 double up all get posted to the player detail pages, but are only available to premium members. (premium access is just $5 a week)

  • hokie2009

or I could go triple punt but at that point I’m still wondering if I want to force wagner or ride with hoge/aswegen/dawie …
