First time it’s being held at this course, the only history you might have a chance at is when they played the Presidents cup here in 2005, 2000, 1996, and 1994. Good luck to all.

is victiv running pga tournaments this week?

I can’t find any info on course lay out. Any help would be appreciated.

This week the Quicken Loans National will be played at the Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia.

RTJ Golf Club is a Par 72 layout that that can stretch to 7,425 yards from the championship tees. The course has hosted the Presidents Cup on four occasions in 1994, 1996, 2000 and 2005. RTJ was founded by the legendary golf course designer Robert Trent Jones “while conducting an aerial site survey for another project“. The course is located about 30 miles from downtown Washington DC and is on Lake Manassas. He called this course “my masterpiece” and it opened for play in April 1991.

Lake Manassas runs through this course and comes into play on half of its holes. For all the water around the golf course the only hole that a player has to fly the ball over open water is the Par 3 11th hole. The golf course has an interesting layout with a variety of holes that offer a variety of ways to play them. The fairways are narrow and the large greens are difficult to read. The greens average 7,200 square feet but play much smaller when you aim for the sub-section containing the hole location. There are greens-within-greens with well-defined, multiple hole locations.

Accuracy off the tee is not as essential here as on many Trent designs that pinch the fairways with bunkers on either side. The fairway bunkers are generally placed inside the dogleg or on the side that affords the best approach into the green.

RJT Golf Club is a new course on the PGA Tour schedule therefore there is no historical data or results to rely on. Research would suggest that Total Driving, Proximity to Hole and Strokes Gained Putting are a good start when trying to identify a potential winner for this week’s Quicken Loans National.

    I would think so!

  • tprokopenko

Important to note that it is an invitational field, so we’re looking at only about 120 players with the same cut of Top 70 and ties.

  • tprokopenko

Side note: lol @ the title of this thread being ‘Quick & Loans’ instead of Quicken Loans, that legit made me chuckle

Just played there last week. The course isn’t overly difficult, but driving percentage is going to be a key. They are growing the rough out more than any course I have played in preparation of a PGA event.

  • flip4flop

Awesome right in my backyard! Can’t wait for this. Sucks only 120 players, which will make for some duplicate lineups I’m sure but still should be interesting to see how to approach a new course.

We also get more fun with Tiger. Hope he’s 10%+ owned and comes dead last.

Add to the narrative that his charity is host too. He will be motivated to play well, then get inside his own head and shank right all day. I predict +7 and MC by Friday afternoon

  • GhostaVeli8701

I’ll see your +7 and raise you a -1 missing the cut by 1 stroke

Pretty disappointing field with only 3 of the top 15 in the OWGR playing this week, so it’ll be interesting to see the pricing this afternoon.

Key on Driving Distance AND Accuracy?

  • JSteele

A whole whack of swaps has happened

    Out
    Cejka
    Every
    Henley
    Davis Love III
    Jones
    Todd
    Gillis

    In
    Byrd
    Gore
    Homa
    Hubbard
    Randolph
    Rodgers
    Vaughn Taylor
    Chez Reavie

That should weaken the field even more. I hope that DK gets the changes in since it happened before prices came out. I like Patrick Rodgers out of that group to make a splash.

  • flip4flop

Wow, that’s a lot of changes. I do hope DK gets these swaps into the contest and take the time to get the most accurate picture of the field in.

On a quick look, I’d have to say Wil Wilcox is my favourite play this week. He’s coming off 2 back to back top 10 finishes and has pretty decent stats for the course. His longest drive is also 373 yards so i’m not too worried about his 59th ranked average drive.

On another note, the guys at the top, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler etc. appear not to have the best stats for the course. Of course stats mean almost nothing but i’ll have to explore this a bit further when I write up my blog post this afternoon.

no players/prices released on DK yet… work on monday blows already. i dont know what to do right now

Hopefully they learned their lesson from last week, and are getting all these added players into the field. I’m fine with the delay if this is what’s happening; especially in a 120 player field.

  • GhostaVeli8701

I’m looking at the prices now and they are not very favorable. As expected Rose & Fowler would be the highest price but Justin Thomas 10K on DK is absurd! I’m also unclear on who is “Out” & “In” when guys that are “In” have “Out” by their name.

  • tprokopenko

Looks like they got all the people added from the first wave of withdrawals. Chez Reavie is missing, but he was added a little later in the day than the first bunch of guys.

I would put more weight on the average drive than on one longest drive, which was probably the result of a hole with an elevated tee box or a sharp downhill hole. Also, Wilcox withdrew from his last event with a wrist injury. Lots of risk there.
