I am sure there is a reason websites in the DFS MLB community lack any creativity or fairness related to rainouts. I got screwed once again with a Reds stack. How hard would it be for sites like DK to simply allow you to swap out a player in a PPD game to a player in a later game?

This kinda stuff deflates me and makes me think that no one cares. It’s all a big money grab and I am frustrated. This could be an easy fix and make customers happy. Perhaps we need more competition still as no sites do this.

What are they supposed to do? Half the time the game is delayed for hours before it’s called. Most of the other games would have started. In tonight’s case with the game you’re complaining about, it was widely reported that game would likely be postponed. Why would you play anyone in it knowing the rules on the websites?

  • btwice80

I am a customer and I would be furious if they did this (not that they ever would). It’s not hard at all to look up local forecasts. I crossed the Reds-White Sox game off the list last night before I even started building my LU because of the nasty weather. You used the phrase ‘once again.’ Are you serious that you’ve already been burned by rainouts, and you still don’t bother to check for weather?

  • miller_time

While I do check the weather, and have never been burt except when I take a calculated gamble.

That said, I have always wondered why it is so difficult to allow late swap (on sites that allow it) when a game has not started. While I think the op needs to look at a weather forecast and stop needlessly rolling the dice, I do think sites should look at this addition late swap if they do late swap.

  • tarheel66

Stop whining, check the damn weather reports. Any doink would have seen that game was not gonna be played. All these newbies wanting a helping hand for not doing the right thing.

DK locks games at scheduled start time.

How would you propose the sites handle this? Your idea has been brought up on these forums before. I’m sure DK is all ears if you have a feasible way to make this happen. Keep in mind that the contests lock based on the stated start time of the game which is input by DK (as far as I know). I don’t believe the feed from STATS includes scheduled start time.

At this point we are left with only two possible solutions. 1.) Have a DK employee manually adjust the start time. This would be problematic in finding an official source and it also leads to human error becoming a factor. 2.) Lock every game once the very first STAT is accumulated in that game. This solution makes more sense but it opens up a vulnerability where STATS could freeze and anyone watching could quickly swap in a leadoff batter who hits a HR that hasn’t updated.

If you have a suggestion besides the two I mentioned (which won’t work) let’s hear it. Otherwise, maybe just check the weather next time and don’t gamble on a questionable rain game when you ahd 14 other games to choose from.

At the same time, the game looks like it has no chance to play, they play at 10 PM after long delay. Ur Reds stack goes off for all the meats, noone played Reds because they can’t swap out. Boom, 1 billion.

I am well aware of the rules and understand the risks and do check the weather. Most reports were of rain off/on, but the Rockies game looked worse. That said, this game was called about an hour and half before about 4 games were scheduled to start.

What I am proposing is that if a game is officially called and PPD, that sites allow you the late swap option to players in the later games. I see that as a very easy implementation and it won’t solve everything but will improve flexibility greatly.

Not whining, I just think my suggestion is a better option than basically avoiding any games due to weather, which was all know is massively unpredictable. Also very far from a newbie as well to those w/ internet muscles.

so you want a get out of jail free card for certain games…there are pretty much countless ways this is a terrible idea

I figured out at 2 pm today that the Reds game wasn’t getting played. The Rockies game might get all the way in by like 3am et. Weather.com not so hard to do there. The weather never showed the Denver situation worse than the Chicago situation.

    .

I always hope for some rainouts in DFS, because I know there’s always gonna be those 1-3 clueless, irresponsible players who don’t pay attention, and that turns 50-50s into 53-47s…..you get my point. +EV for the rest of us

Again, you are proposing something without any specifics. Are you saying that the games would lock at their original start time but then once cancelled they would unlock so you could pick someone else? Surely, you can see how this wouldn’t be fair to your opponent right? Also, what are you using as the official cancellation notice? Say you take players in a 705ET game that has a delay. How does this work under your system? If you have the players in that game do they lock at 705ET? Let’s say that happens and it starts looking like your game is going to get rained out. The problem is your players are still locked. You hear on Twitter at 755ET that the game will be called. You hop on DK to grab some players from an 805ET game but guess what, MLB hasn’t officially cancelled the game yet. Precious seconds tick away as you send an angry support email to DK. You want to take your players out and get some 805ET players. Time keeps ticking away and finally MLB cancels the game….. at 807ET. Your players are now unlocked and you can switch to some new players. The problem is this was two minutes to late. Now you are pissed at DK. See where I am going with this? You are asking the sites to do something that doesn’t seem feasible and you don’t really have a suggestion on how it could work.

why are you even humoring him…he stacked a game that everyone knew from 2pm on was going to be cancelled. a game that (for the first time ever) kevin roth used RED to tell people not to use that game. 2 seconds of research would have told him not to use anyone from that game. but he did, and now its DKs fault…

You’re right, the CWS was a no brainer, can’t be argued. The COL one was iffy, I decided to avoid it, but at least it was in play. Mr Roth felt more confident than others about that one

You’re checking the wrong places and/or not good at assessing the risk. There was no chance the CWS game was happening. Even the COL game was pretty easy to fade, but I understand why not everybody did.

I think that’s the worst forecast I’ve seen since I started this ****.

That’s me in regards to Cin@CHW on another forum before lock, so no, this one didn’t really sneak up on you.

    .

The only thing I’d say is aggrivating is when a game on the lineups page was green all day, then suddenly goes yellow or red at lineup lock time. Now, is that RG’s fault? Hell no, they’re only giving you updates as they happen. Sometimes mother nature will get you. I can only blame that on misfortune.

That’s a rare circumstance, but it does happen
