    Hey guys,

We are making some changes to data collection and criteria for our Rankings as an interim solution to our rankings feeds being temporarily disabled on Fanduel and DraftKings as outlined by this post.

Whereas before we were getting data feeds from our partners, we are now collecting publicly available data from the lobbies of the big two sites using a dedicated team of employees/interns. We are making sure to collect this data without violating the terms of service of either site (i.e. using a manual process instead of using scripts to collect data).

Because this is a labor-intensive process and because we are only working with Tournaments in the lobbies, we are now only counting Tournaments and Satellites with $10,000 prize pools and a minimum of 10 players. 50/50s, multipliers, and Heads Up games will not be included in the Rankings going forward. We will be moving to these criteria on all sites, not just Fanduel and DraftKings.

We started this process several weeks ago when our data feeds were pulled and now have a process of importing this data into our database, so over the next several days, you will start to see recent results for FD and DK added to your profile!

We still consider this a temporary/interim change. Fanduel and DraftKings have both told us they want to support the RotoGrinders rankings once they have more clarity and more time to review their policies. We will continue to work with them and may return to a more comprehensive rankings system in the future.

With this change in data collection, we also have plans to introduce several new Ranking lists broken down by average buy-in level, so that smaller-level players can rank themselves against players that play at similar levels. Keep an eye out for these. We think they will be a big hit!

@coninefan – if your results are in a $10K+ prize pool, we will be getting that included as well.

Riley, my mistake, it was a FantasyAces where I saw some under 10K results. I didn’t see the part where the smaller sites weren’t going in to effect until November, so my apologies for that. I certainly understand it’s a huge undertaking on your guys end to do this stuff manually so despite some frustrations I think ultimately most people, myself included, are appreciative of your efforts.

@Riley I have had many cashes in qualifying tourneys in cfb, nfl and nba and nothing is updated since Oct 5th. You mentioned you have updated through Oct 15th? I should have these 10 days of results which i do not currently. I went through and saw you updated all the “top” player rankings but mine appears to not have been touched yet. I have played so many qualifying tourneys in these time periods I do not really have the links. I am on my way to the top of the leader board this year ;) so want to make sure all my finishes are counting. Should I be worried or will these results come in eventually?

We actually haven’t updated all results through the 15th. For DraftKings, we’ve updated from the 17th through the 22nd. For FanDuel, we’ve updated from the 16th to the 18th. We were testing the process to determine how long it would take to collect the results manually and are in process of bringing on a team of people to do the rest of the results.

There are some issues we are having that we are trying to determine how to deal with but rest assured we are working diligently on that. As far as updating top player rankings and no others, our data collection process just collects the results of those players who cashed in a qualifying tournament. I can assure you there is no preferential treatment – just a lot of button clicking. :)

Hey @cctravis – I just wanted to come in and clarify where we stand in terms of all of the results imports over the last few weeks.

As you know, the feeds were cut arund October 5th, and shortly after we began collecting tournaments manually. However, we were only collecting links and CSVs to later go back to. Since then we started to put a plan into place to import them into our database for rankings purposes. We created a system to do this, but we had to do some testing first to make sure that it would work.

As a result, we went through a bunch of tournaments for FD and DK in the 10/16 to 10/22 range. Not every tournament has been imported, but we are now comfortable enough with the process that we are going to begin importing everything shortly. Over the next week or so you should start to see results appearing in your profile again, but it might take a short while for us to catch up with the missed days.

I hope that answers your questions!

  • cctravis

@CruzinToVictory that was very helpful and makes perfect sense based on what I saw. I look forward to the update. Thanks

there is no way we can manually import the file like we can do for bankroll manager?

  • NDrockne44

Thanks for the explanation. I missed the post. I hope the new rankings aren’t too different. I would like to see how I’m doing with people with average buy-ins but I also want to see how I am doing against elite players.

I think the RG guys tackled this question. Basically, imported data can be fudged and they are concerned with accuracy of the rankings. If we were allowed to import they would have to go back and validate each entry anyway. So it doesn’t mitigate any of the time sink on their end I assume.

Not sure how I feel about this….

I appreciate the effort going into creating rankings but putting out GPP only rankings based on a few months of contests is basically irrelevant. I’d almost rather have no rankings then have a flawed system.

I’d have to agree. I don’t think it’s necessary for them to do any rankings and subscribe for content, but my reaction is that as someone who is a “grinder” playing 90% double-ups, 10% tourneys to build a bankroll, it’s too bad those can’t be included as tournaments entail a bit of luck as well. So maybe just call the tournament rankings; I don’t think it’s a real ranking if we aren’t counting the results from double-ups and multipliers.

  • Olhausen

It looks like some results are starting to show up again so everyone check your profile.

I hope this all blows over relatively soon. Us small stakes grinders are proud, and it stinks when it looks like we aren’t even playing in our profiles!

  • Stevej2344

If in a 50/50 or a double up contest the GOAL TO WIN is to simply build a safe enough team to be in the top 50 % of the field then I think it makes sense to not include those contest types in the rankings which intend to only count top 20% lineups. Those contests do not capture skill the same way tournaments with top prizes do where literally every single lineup entered was built to take first, rather than to play it cool and just place in the top 4000 or something in a large field double up. Also, how often do you guys really expect to place in the top 20 percent of large cash games without a risky lineup that goes against the primary strategy? I don’t say this to offend anyone who is a strict cash game or 50/50 player, but if a person happens to beat a Condia or Notorious in a 50/50 or Double Up game in which those players werent even technically trying to score higher than EVERY SINGLE PERSON, how can it really be a measure of a players true skill if you happen to place higher than them? Just my thoughts.

Riley, I know this may sound stupid – but, would it be helpful if I sent you all my own results?

Thanks, but we still have to sort through all of the data and contest, so it really wouldn’t help speed things up.

  • theoddsmaker

Just curious but wouldn’t this essentially wipe out most FantasyAces contests? Seems like they provide a nice feed of all their results still and it’s just FD and DK that stopped providing this feed, or no?

I’m of the mind-set that to the people that the rankings mean a lot or something too this would almost encourage users to at least start trying out smaller sites in order to net more ‘scores’?

If I’m not mistaken FD/DK voluntarily stopped giving access to these feeds after the whole mess a few weeks ago to make things more transparent although I’m not sure how that is exactly but I’m sure I’m missing a huge piece of the puzzle here which is why I’m bringing everything up truly just as questions I was curious about. Hoping someone can clarify.

Tl;dr This sort of wipes out getting grinder ‘scores’ from the smaller sites, even though it seems like they are still providing these feeds so they don’t have to be scraped manually. Feel like keeping those feeds alive help motivate action at smaller sites for some people.

Your not alone I think they have only uploaded very few results.

On mine for example I only see 3 tourneys from Oct 31-Nov 2 and nothing before or after. I bet they will update this thread when they do a full update.

    Anticipation builds……haha

I did send it your way, but I understand completely…

What if the link ends up expiring i dont want my first place in a huge tourney magically disappear then u guys say u cant find it, happened before for a pga contest

Im seeing some results now, but my overall points, monthly ranking points, and others seem totally unaffected by how many points I accumulated recently. Like for one of my NFL tournaments on DK it says I earned over 450 points (yes they are highlighted in blue representing a top 20% score) yet my monthly ranking is only 95. Can anyone elaborate? Am I misunderstanding how they are calculated because this doesnt seem correct at all lol

Also, I am seeing NBA results in the recents, but no overall NBA score for my profile.

I have none. You guys aren’t alone. In fact, I haven’t registered an NBA win yet… rough start to the year :)

I’m just thankful they’re doing what they’re doing. For a free service, it’s pretty amazing the amount of work these RG people do on our behalf!

  • cctravis

Rankings between Oct 5th – Oct 30 Appear to still be missing but the newer results seem to be updating fine.
