There has to be a way for RotoGrinders to do RANKINGS based on PROFITS not just total “scoring” points. I would truly love to see who the real winners are in this game. I think you might be very surprised by the results.

Completely agree with this. Pros should have their own ranking separate from the average player. It’s ridiculous…these pros enter thousands of entries daily and it skews the rankings. I think the fact that I am an average player ranked as high as I am is a success compared to all the pros/mass enterers

Has any other system, sport, game or ranking ever been listed by “profits”?

I’m curious if there is a precedent here?

Does anyone actually care about RG rankings in the first place? When I first came to the site years ago and saw how they were calculated where volume vastly outweighs skill I never cared who was on top or where I ranked.

The only issue I have is when guys start up their own tout business and advertise their RG ranking as a reason why they are good. When in reality if you had a lot of money to afford to shotgun enter everything your going to be ranked top 10 without ever actually making a profit or being good at anything.

Couldn’t agree with this more. The rankings are really dumb and I never look at them. They are not a good metric of who is a good player. It’s more of who invests more.

The RG Rankings are meaningless IMO. I also think it’s put out there to be fun for some. If you’re, touting yourself as a good player because of these rankings, you’re doing it wrong.

^this 100% it’s a joke. Wish they would change it so we can get a grasp who truly are the skilled players. Of course my name would be right up there

Poker to some extent was on sharkscope covering online tournaments. However, it somewhat descended in to being used as a tool to attack people who were not winners, given you could search the results of anyone (and also as a way to target weak players by sitting their games). Then PokerStars who dominated the traffic weren’t too keen on this sort of behavior so only wanted their data to be used by a third party like sharkscope if the user opted in to it. So the default became everyone was hidden until they requested otherwise.

I’m not sure how it all works with DFS, but I expect the results are “owned” by the sites ie. DK/FD and it would require a third party like RG to have a ranking that they permitted. It’s probably not a great advertisement for DFS if the “pros” are making tons of money. Although saying that it’s probably not great either if no one is making that much, which seems pretty likely with the rake!

Overall though as the ranking is, it’s clearly a ranking of volume so should be presented as that, rather than suggesting best players/profits.

Ive always been fine with the RG rankings but i fully know that they are just showing wins and not any losses or anything profit/loss related. The only issue is whats been stated before in that people then exploit them for marketing to create sites, be a tout, etc etc when we have no idea if that person is a winning player or not.

I dont think we’ll ever be able to fully disclose all wins/losses on a public site like this but maybe? Seems dangerous as mentioned above people may be able to start targeting losing players.

However, I was thinking of a little ‘out of the box’ idea and almost copy the idea of how golf handicaps are created through GHIN (nationwide system now i believe). It would be tricky because there is just one game in golf and not different entry levels but i still think its possible. What the system does is your ‘handicap’ is the best 10 out of your last 20 posted scores, this handicap is your index, and your index is not your average score but more what your potential could be if you are playing good. Something along those lines I think could work

I do it for the RG points.

I dream of one day being in the top 1000 so I can have one of those shiny badges

I think all the tools are there in ResultsDB to do this, but it might be a bit controversial to list exact profit and loss for every player. Nevertheless, you can estimate it. If say you are a max entry guy but only ranked 100, you probably aren’t up. If you are a small time guy (like anticrimedog above me) and ranked 200 you probably have been profitable.

You can even do this for players without a RG profile since it tracks them too (like for ragingphillip and pianoclub). ResultsDB is a pretty awesome tool.

A system like this would still have similar issues with the current RG system in guys who shotgun enter 500 lineups a night are bound to rack up tons of really high finishes so they will always look like they are the worlds best players if your just taking the top scores.

Overall the RG rankings are fine if you take them for what they are and understand rankings have only a small % to of with skill. Guys who spend year after year near the top do show some skill since to at least breakeven since if your losing your butt even if you have a multi million dollar bankroll eventually you will break if your never winning.

People having to deal with “look how much Joe has lost at this” at the office would not be beneficial to anybody. Everyone here would enjoy seeing ROI and such stats from everyone else, but it would be a damn disaster.
