A sad day for me and all who played on the site. Snakes were my #1 volume of DFS play since the optimizers took over. I will miss it.

Support is insinuating that the platform will be integrated on to fanduel in the future, but I highly doubt it.

Went through this years ago when Draftkings absorbed Draftstreet. DK beat around the bush that it would offer snake drafts when they took over. Purely a membership acquisition then, and I believe it is the same now.

Snakes just aren’t as profitable for sites to run. You can get a near infinite amount of salary $$ down in seconds. Snake drafts take a long time.

    Bummer.

  • YeahYou

If they actually do offer snakes and snake gpps we could get much larger prizepools. I’m not holding my breath though.

That is the dream, but like you, I don’t see it happening.

If they wanted to truly bring the draft product on Fanduel, they would have the merger of the two websites done already, and introduce the change immediately. Not a closing of DRAFT with the intention to bring back their offerings to fanduel in the future.

It makes 0 sense to annoy the entire playerbase and then bring it back down the road.

Was there an announcement made they are closing? I haven’t seen it if so

Yes. When you open the app there is a message that no more contests will be offered after 12/30. Also about an hour ago they released a tweet.

Just wait, in a year or so you will have a popup on Draft Kings saying we are no longer offering DFS on our site. Sportbooks will be their number one moneymaker. Why do you think they are running head long into the sportsbook side of things now?? Wasnt DFS created for us because Gambling wasnt allowed in most U.S states???

I heard the DK leader on a podcast a few months back and he already stated that sportsbetting is already a huge handle compared to DFS. Who knows where we are headed.

    Just got this:

“As 2019 comes to a close, we wanted to let you know about some changes happening to DRAFT in the new year. We’re planning on building the best of DRAFT into FanDuel after the 2019 NFL regular season. We’re doing this to bring the awesome DRAFT formats to our FanDuel users, meaning bigger and better contests than ever before for everyone.

And ‘tis the season after all, so we’re giving you a 10% transfer bonus (up to a $500 bonus)* on FanDuel if you merge accounts and transfer your DRAFT balance over to FanDuel. Just open the latest version of the DRAFT app for details

    So…what else does this mean?

You can continue to play current contests on DRAFT until December 30, 2019, and all existing contests will settle as normal. On December 30, we’ll stop offering new contests on the DRAFT platform.

If you already have a FanDuel account, you can merge your DRAFT and FanDuel accounts. New to FanDuel? You can create a FanDuel account here, and then merge your DRAFT account with your new FanDuel account.

We‘ll integrate the DRAFT contests you love into FanDuel in 2020. Until then, we encourage you to check out all that FanDuel offers if you haven’t already.

As always, you can access and withdraw your funds on DRAFT at any time.
Please contact support@draft.com if you require any assistance or have any questions.

Thank you for playing – see you on FanDuel in 2020!

    Best,

    The DRAFT & FanDuel Team”

They knew for a while. makes sense now why they didn’t offer best ball NBA contests. I really liked the snake draft. I did well in NFL this season but I am really going to miss the golf.

  • Shaver933

Might as well max out the bonus and get a free $500

  • Jvanspro

Dang. I really enjoyed the best ball platform, both baseball and football. Now I’m not sure where to go for baseball best ball games.

  • panther26ster

Merging was easy, showed new balance with bonus immediately on FanDuel.
Then I get a email from Sophie at Draft, claiming my Draft funds are separate from my FanDuel funds? WTH, FanDuel shows 1 account total, nothing separate. Anyone else get the email after you merge?

It is actually a poorly thought out maneuver if they actually thing the Draft best ball dollars will simply go over to the in season FD sportsbook or dfs. They fail to realize that the money being spent on best balls are spent in March, April, May, June, July, and August when there are ZERO games to bet or play dfs on. That season long money won’t magically all make it over to FD when the games actually start because people will spend that money on other things and not just hoard it for FD in September.

It’s just dumb even if it is just for player acquisition. The one caveat is if they actually do offer the Draft best balls via FD which I, like many others, believe will never happen.

  • SkateFiend

NBA DFS needs a snake draft, at least for cash games. In my mind, it’s the only way to address optimizers and trains. Snake draft an hour or two before lock, and set it and forget it. If there’s breaking news that affects the slate, you’re stuck with whatever team you have got.

I may play some low stakes snake draft contests if they move to FD, I’m hoping they have that format for cash games.

  • baahstonbotfly

I, for one cashed out. Like others don’t believe snake drafts will ever be offered on FanDuel. And not a fan of Fanduels app setup in first place….

  • txdave41

I like having the option of snake drafts, but I never could build a bankroll off of them. When you got the top guys putting up 70 points or more then it’s hopeless to cash when the system gives you a low pick order and those guys have already been snatched.

  • TP305

I merged my accounts and couldn’t in on Dec 29, had many football lineups not sure if I won or what. The Draft website doesn’t let you sign in and theres no draft money showing up in my FanDuel account, pretty discouraged loved Draft left FanDuel for them and now here we are!!

This makes little sense to me. It’s called multiple streams of income. If a Restaurant’s #1 money maker is hamburgers, do they all of a sudden stop selling French Fries or soda? A good business gets every dime out of the business they can.

Only way DK would stop offering DFS, is if people stopped playing and their contests were consistently overlaying. Or they’d have to be convinced that their DFS customers would 1) start betting sports, if they don’t already 2) generate more income as sports bettors than as DFS players. They’d also risk losing a lot of customers outright.

DFS is a very positive income stream, and the juice is significantly higher on DFS than traditional sports betting. There’s also a ton less competition for the DFS dollar then for the sports betting dollar.

Anything can happen, it just doesn’t seem likely.

  • mnnorthshore35

Are there any places to play Snake drafts online? I found Drafters.com but my computer security would not allow them.

Makes sense to me. I for one don’t see myself ever placing sports bets. It’s just not of much interest to me. If DFS went away, I would just move to more high stakes season long leagues. Sports betting just doesn’t interest me.

I am in the same boat where sports betting does very little for me. I get way more entertainment about of fantasy football than I ever did using off shore sports books. PGA DFS and season long fantasy is also way more fun then just betting straight winners. However some of the 3 balls or head to head bets are fun for PGA.

I think the two can co exist and it doesn’t have to be one or the other.

I just went to the Drafters.com website…seems legit and they offer snake drafts.

Tater has been predicting the demise of DFS for like five years at this point.

I’m really hoping a new company comes in and fills this void for Best Ball as well as weekly snake drafts. Really bummed out that this happened. Put in for a cash out but still waiting to receive.

  • periewe

I really would hope that DK, FD, Fantasy Draft, or Yahoo would create a bestball product like Draft did…..it looks like Drafters.com is an option?

  • stevemealone

Yes, it’s the only option that I am seeing right now, but Drafters is light years behind PlayDraft in terms of volume, design and the overall user experience. In my opinion, the money to be made in daily snake drafts is entirely geared around volume and the amount of people playing / ease of finding a quick draft. So far with Drafters, it can take hours for just a 5 person NBA draft to fill.

There HAS to be some company that sees the traffic PlayDraft had and can recreate that experience. There is a lot of money to be made here, as there are tons of people who feel drafting the most fun aspect of fantasy sports, in general.
