A sad day for me and all who played on the site. Snakes were my #1 volume of DFS play since the optimizers took over. I will miss it.

Support is insinuating that the platform will be integrated on to fanduel in the future, but I highly doubt it.

Went through this years ago when Draftkings absorbed Draftstreet. DK beat around the bush that it would offer snake drafts when they took over. Purely a membership acquisition then, and I believe it is the same now.

Snakes just aren’t as profitable for sites to run. You can get a near infinite amount of salary $$ down in seconds. Snake drafts take a long time.

    Bummer.

I really would hope that DK, FD, Fantasy Draft, or Yahoo would create a bestball product like Draft did…..it looks like Drafters.com is an option?

Yahoo offered best ball last season. Not on any type of large scale the way Draft (no big tournaments) did but they launched their best ball product last summer. I believe it was all 10 player leagues ranging from $1 entry up to maybe $50. Not entirely sure on the highest buy in. Info at the link below. Maybe they’ll expand their offerings before next season.

Just jumping in to say that here’s one more person who’s going to miss DRAFT. DRAFT actually got the majority of my DFS dollars. I’m a very small time player who loses over time – but who cares? It’s just entertainment for me.

I’d typically hit DRAFT for $25-50 a night and play traditional DFS for $3-5 at most. Why did I play at DRAFT more than FD or DK? Simply because as fun as DFS is for me – and it is fun – the idea of a draft a day was even more so. I doubt I’m ever going to hit it rich taking down a big GPP and I have no interest in trying to slowly grind out a season long profit in cash games. Back when I played season long fantasy sports (I haven’t in years), the best part for me was the offseason and preparing for the draft. DRAFT allowed me to do that on a smaller scale nearly daily. I could spend 30-45 minutes a day getting ready for a draft, get excited when a player fell to the 4th or 5th round, curse when the player I was targeting got snatched up one pick before mine. It’s just a game and DFS is fun, DRAFT was “funner”.

As I’ve gotten older with a house, job, family, etc. the amount of time I can spend on fantasy sports has taken a hit. Over the past couple years I’ve cut it down to a single sport, and that’s the NHL (ok, I’ll throw a couple uninformed dollars at NFL Sundays too). When I got the notice that DRAFT was shutting down my app had the message “We’ll integrate the DRAFT contests you love into FanDuel in 2020” which left me hopeful that maybe, just maybe, I’d see them on FanDuel before too long. Later that day I noticed a screenshot on another message board that looked the same as mine, but the wording was different “We’re hard at work building your favorite DRAFT games on FanDuel in time for next season”. That was a little less hopeful for someone who mostly plays hockey, but I shot an email over to support and transferred my balance to FanDuel (credit where credit is due, super easy and almost instantaneous). The reply from support was a stock “we’re working on it type response”.

I haven’t heard any official word, but plenty of speculation that snake drafts were a thing of the past, so I tried support again this morning and got another stock response “We’re working on it for 2020. FanDuel loves all that DRAFT had to offer! We have no specific date for when each contest style will be offered but feel free to check out lots of new sports that we have for you to try!” Not satisfied with that response I wrote back saying that I only play hockey and am just curious to know if I was done playing for the season or if I might see snake drafts back before the Stanley Cup was hoisted. This time I did get a meaningful response and since I haven’t seen official word anywhere else I thought I’d post it here (the real reason for my de-lurk):
“We plan on launching our DRAFT style contests beginning with the 2020 NFL season, so there will not be any contests of those sort for the remaining NHL season.”

Even though I already suspected it, at least I now know that I’m sadly done for the year with NHL snake drafts and can withdraw FanDuel balance (I’ll stay with DK for my small time NHL plays, scoring is weird this year but the offerings are better). I’m definitely going to keep watching this thread though to see if there’s any news on a new player in the market. I’d wager that this style of DFS isn’t the moneymaker that traditional GPPs and cash games are, but I still think it’s more fun. I did make a deposit at drafters.com over the weekend…I’ve thrown in an entry every day since, but I’m still waiting for an NHL contest to actually fill (come on, these are three man contests. There’s got to be other hockey fans on drafters, right?). I kind of hate their layout and hockey scoring, but until an alternative pops up I’ll keep waiting there to see if the player population grows at all over the next few weeks – at least enough for a single contest to fill.

So sad this happened. I play a few hundred $ a week of NFL DFS and I threw a ton of my bankroll at draft.com contests from May-August of 2019 and fell in love with the format.

Hopefully another operator can seize this massive hole in the market. I’d put the chances that FanDuel offers best ball at under 30%.

Tbh the worst part was that I had already begun working on a strategy guide for 2020 best ball and then this happens… pls pls pls somebody else offer this format!

Check out Drafters.com. I just joined this week. A small player base. Snake drafts for nhl, nba, nfl, mlb, pga

Yes, it’s the only option that I am seeing right now, but Drafters is light years behind PlayDraft in terms of volume, design and the overall user experience. In my opinion, the money to be made in daily snake drafts is entirely geared around volume and the amount of people playing / ease of finding a quick draft. So far with Drafters, it can take hours for just a 5 person NBA draft to fill.

There HAS to be some company that sees the traffic PlayDraft had and can recreate that experience. There is a lot of money to be made here, as there are tons of people who feel drafting the most fun aspect of fantasy sports, in general.

I want to agree with you, but if it was so popular why did the “leader” close its doors? If FD was hyped about it, either it would have been kept open or FD would already be offering contests on its site.

TheShaman43 response looks exactly like what I would write. Played DRAFT daily in the same $25-50 range in the $3,5,10 Drafts and always in Puck Drop Tourney. Loved it for the Snake Drafting aspect as it was great fun. Not in it to make a fortune just pure entertainment dollars. Won a few tourney style so that helped the bankroll.
Moved money to FanDuel and have spent

Any new news on if FanDuel will have snake draft games or did they truly stiff the daily fantasy fans of draft by buying them out and getting rid of it? I did send an email FanDuel with no reply so far!

  • AMTRAK

According to FanDuel, they said snake drafts will be available at the beginning of the NFL season

That’s dumb as the by far the best part of DRAFT was the cheap season long best balls they offered. Did people actually play DRAFT for the weekly snake drafts? Best ball I imagine had to be a majority of the volume played on their but maybe that is just my own bias as it is all I used it for it myself.
