On PGA Tour radio this morning they were talking about the US Team being in pods based on their interview schedule.

    Pod 1
    Spieth
    JT
    Bryson
    Scheffler

    Pod 2
    Xander
    Cantlay
    DJ
    Morikawa

    Pod 3
    Brooks
    Finau
    Berger
    English

I don’t see how Brooks plays two rounds a day with his bum wrist and Collin is probably going to sit a session or two with his back issues. I could see Stricker breaking up the pods for Saturday and pairing DJ/English if Brooks can’t go.

Speith and Jt have great Ryder Cup chemistry. Does Stiricker break up this pairing?

Agree. Also, I don’t see how we can set a roster until we get the Friday pairings. Think they come out on Thursday night. I don’t want to roster players who are not playing on Friday. That’s an immediate negative of 25%. Pretty hard to overcome that. Is my thought process flawed?

They will only announce morning pairings. The thought on Golf Channel , 4 players resting in morning, will play in afternoon for USA.

Mostly likely only 8/12 players on each team will play 4 matches while only 4/12 play all 5 matches

It is possible that a player or two may only play 3 matches total so there could be a 5th or 6th player who plays all 5 matches but regardless you don’t really know who who is playing all 5 and more than half only play 4 of 5 matches. Also I’d rather have someone who goes 4-0 or 3-0-1 in match results than a guy who plays all 5 but only goes 1-4 or 1-3-1

people will build lineups that cannot be optimal and it helps.

Care to expound on that statement? I’d like to avoid building less than optimal lineups. First time playing this format, and I haven’t been able to wrap my head around the lineup construction process…

I think there is a lot of “ifs” and assumptions built into his statement because we don’t truly know what is/isn’t optimal until we know who is playing Saturday’s afternoon matches which doesn’t occur until after lock.

IF we knew that (for example) Spieth and Bryson were going to play 4 matches together as partners then it would be a sub optimal build to only play one of them on a lineup. Likewise if we knew Brooks and Collin were both only playing 3 matches of the 5 total, then it would be smarter to avoid BUT since everything is only speculation at this point nothing is truly sub optimal.

Also everyone playing the first matches announced for the Fri morning session will all be significantly higher owned than the guys sitting out that first session so there may be some leverage there if those guys sitting play the remaining 4 matches.

With all that said, the guys playing the first match together likely have a 50+% chance of playing with the same partner in at least 2 more matches so that would be an edge to play them together over splitting them up over diff lineups.

  • byo34

Pretty much what BiF said. Also I’m pretty sure we find out who plays against who for the Friday morning matches, so it MIGHT be best to avoid putting guys who face each other in the same lineup.

Example if Xander/Cantlay play Rory/Hovland it might be smart to only have exposure to one of the those teams in a lineup. Let’s say one side gets dominated so maybe they switch up a team or sit them a session. Lots of guess work still but having a game theory doesn’t hurt.

I also meant there will be an edge because people will just shove a team of like 3 min priced guys so they can be stacked up top, or captain a guy who could only play 1 or 2 sessions and just be dead in the water.

  • timusbr

i didnt try to figure an optimal LU.

Who could without knowing pairs and who they are playing against? Will knowing 1/4 of the equation when Friday Morning matches are set,,,,help you? maybe a tad, a starting point.

I got my 20 done for the minimax. no more (ready to edit some choices). I also entered 2 3-max entries for some money. Its nice to have DFS for the Ryder Cup, but I think this was made for the sportsbook.

Winner: the fans….Its chilly out there today and with a nice breeze off the lake Wed .and Thur. could have given the euro team a nice linksy feel. As Fri rolls around the winds shift from the south and everything gets back to more a norm.
Fade: all the bullshit. who cares about Brooksie and Bryson. I just hope we can keep the gallery from walking around with their automatic rifles al-la Rittenhouse
Sleeper: Team USA (maybe not sleepers as far as official world rankings but they are a sleeper as far as being a team.) Good Luck all

  • mitchsnyderdfw

Anyone doing the all USA or all Euro stacks?

I figured the format would be like NFL Captain LU’s where you can’t stack all players from one team, but not the case with Cup this week.

  • TwiceTwo

BIF & byo34 – Thanks for taking the time to offer insight and guidance. Very helpful!

Sounds like cup lineup construction should be approached with a healthy dose of the swag method…

Do we think there is anyone that seems like a lock to play every session and perform well?

Looks like Spieth/Thomas and Cantlay/Xander have the best chance on the US side

My thinking is that euros HAVE to run Rory and Rahm for all, probably Hovland too. As for the US, I think they will/should run JT, X and Cantlay for all sessions.

Seems unlikely that Mori, BK, Scottie, Berger, English, Weis, Lowry would play all sessions

Ryder cup is a snooze fest, I agree with Brooks Koepka that golf is an individual sport. They should get rid of the Ryder/Presidents Cup for a 5th major.

  • timusbr

Golf is steeped in tradition. Some things are unique. It is an individual sport. Sportsmanship and on your honor are incredible ethics that are taught at a young age. Playing on a team should be as easy as putting on a glove. Respect your position, Respect your fellow golfers, and feel the competition as trying to win every inch.

I dont get why a person accepts and criticizes representing his country on a national stage. Dont accept it. Your sponsors wouldnt like that. Your media attention and Q score might suffer. So individualism wins out. Some would call it selfish, I call it a disfunctional team. Hence, why I think the Euro team outshines the US.

Keep the traditions alive. I love the Ryder Cup. I love seeing matchplay of the best of the best.

Somewhere, the John Deere is weeping.

I haven’t looked at the DK salaries yet (not much point until initial pairings are announced since I’m single entry.) I did enter a pool with salary constraints which locks before pairings, and am rolling Spieth/Thomas for the US and Poulter for the Euros. Poulter may not win but by god he will never give up, and that makes it a fun root at least.

“Snooze fest.“Really? I find it to be one of the best golf events out there. The team atmospheres, sense of country, and the fans make this second to none.

The only thing I do not like about the Ryder Cup is Canadians and Mexicans should be on the team from our side of the pond.

Maybe none qualify, but there should be an opportunity.

Ancer should have a chance to be picked.

It should be North America vs Europe.

  • RudyPujols

Anybody not in the HM, need 5 more for 2nd Gen and it does not appear to be resizable. At least it doesn’t say it is and it is 30 person so I don’t think it can be (unless DK changed its ways).

    Thanks!

Yeah sorry Ryder/Presidents Cup does nothing for me, golf is an individual sport. I would much much rather see a match play 5th major that would be exciting.
