After only a couple weeks off, the boys are back at it in Napa @ Silverado CC to kick off the new season. DK already has a couple GPP’s posted but there are no salaries for a couple weeks.
We will get to see some new faces (recent Web Tour grads) and some old ones (including Tiger making his return).
Thanks Pickle – I’ve also seen your name lurking not too far from the top of a few NFL GPP’s lately as well.
Thats fantastic, and fing hard to do.
Yeah I knew your name a long time ago. Doesn’t really matter.
Thanks Jim – I seem to be good/lucky in NFL as I’ve hit 3 large 100K+ entry GPP’s now in 10 months. Re: my DK username, I’m not surprised as I’ve entered the odd RG League tourney of yours as was posting about being all over the top of the Euro events a few weeks ago.
RG League Tues MLB 6 players needed
https://www.draftkings.com/contest/draftteam/28806800
Now that is impressive!
Yeah I knew your name before that when we were both close to winning a PGA. It wasnt very hard to figure out as you were the only person with a different lead guy and you told us who that lead guy was. lol, again it really doesnt matter. Still used to Bif or do you prefer Blair now?
LOL i actually looked it up from the post on last weeks thread. Its Tuesday morning and putting around is my norm.
been thinking about paying for FantasyGolfInsider subscription for a month and see how useful it is. DFS is very luck based but anybody here that uses FGI think it worth it, is their information valuable and useful. i guess im asking if people think it has helped them improve. seems no matter how many stats i pour over every week im always on the wrong guys
BIF works and is probably less confusing for the forum – I even put my DK username up on my RG profile now as apparently people on some of the other forums here only respect your opinion if you have “street cred” with good GPP results. I wrongly assumed my posts were informative enough to show I wasn’t a total idiot. LOL
Weird – I was always raised to believe it was about “where you are going” and not “where you’ve been”. I just post my opinion, enjoy a good discussion and never really cared if people agree or disagree as I know my results (GPP and H2H) are good enough to allow me to do this as a time consuming hobby and still pay the mortgage.
I re-read you answer and you were correct that was when I figured it out.
Bif, you do give good info, do show knowledge, and do give opinions. a little trolling 1 time on me lol. what i did know is that your in a different category than me as to betting money and stat knowledge. I looked your name up so that i can mark you for any contests we might join together. my normal hi is $3 but i do occasionally go for the $27 or $33. always enjoy your posts
Week 2 was my best week ever in DFS. Week 3 brought me right back to reality.
Hey is this also our Ryder Cup thread?
Ive said before and still believe Europe is the better team. Am I in the minority? Because looking at the odds and news stories…..USA is big favorite.
any quick analysis on the format.
4 team where best score is counted has got to be tough to get ahead. especially in a field of this 24
alternate shot? any advantages…..in past has DJ teed off or hit second shot?? anyplace have this info??
Ryder Cup Thread

Thanks for the kind words – I don’t recall trolling you but I may have LOL.
I think I just bring a slightly different perspective being a golfer (versus someone who plays beer golf or plays casually) and while I do use stats to confirm things or confuse me, I’m certainly not a big data guy with algos. Because I watch a ton of golf, hockey and NFL, there are things I cannot un-see and could never follow a computer program’s ranking or algo results versus what I saw /interpreted.
I don’t play a ton of high stakes; occasionally I enter the $333 and $150’s but mostly keep it 50 and under for GPP’s. If I like the payout structure, it may put me on a higher stake entry.
I opened a separate thread but it is pretty quiet
Edit – thanks Jim, I hadn’t read that far down before answering
No worries Bif
timusbr you are killing the RG League MLB. I hope you have that LU in other contests.

You would be 3rd winnining $800 in MLB $15K HOT CORNER [$15,000 GUARANTEED]
Edit Larin1477 Too bad you did not get your LU in on time. Thats frustrating.
LOL Jim I did play in others and i havnt looked. Im not looking until you answer
i looked, sorry i made a good bit of coin(for me) on detroit. I slammed them at my sportsbook. I used the day after senario on Cleveland. very surprised that the tigers were lightly owned. I thought Verlander was too expensive. Detroit not out of the wildcard yet.
1) DraftKing’s needs to bring back the live final. Hope it is in the works.
2) Anyone ever been to this event in Napa – thinking of making the trip one year?
-DJ
Congrats to the winners
RG LEAGUE TUES MLB
1st Joltman1974
2nd Tim-Usbr
3rd Slpanthers24
Great teams Jolt and Tim.
Jolt passed Tim at the very end with a W for his Pitcher
Not yet but it’s on my short list of events I haven’t been to as the weather is great this time of year and as the season opener, it draws a decent field now.
Already committed is Tiger, Phil, Kuchar, Kirk, Grillo and Watney trying to make it his 1st event back from injury. Exemptions so far were given to Aaron Wise, Maverick McNealy and college player Collin Morikawa from Cal.
I’m still learning golf. Is it known yet who all has earned a Tour card for the 2016-2017 season? Is this or will this be posted anywhere?
How do you guys treat the first several events of the new season?
I’ll take a stab at this one – it’s a bit of a loaded question(s)
Unlike other sports, you can’t really find a roster of who is on the team (tour). We know some things for sure and a few others are being cleared up this week.
1. The Top 125 in Fed Ex Cup points from 2015-16 wraparound season have kept their PGA Tour cards
2. While mostly the same guys, the Top 125 in money leaders from 2015-2016 wraparound season also kept their cards – this added 2 guys not in thru #1 above (Steve Marino and Bud Cauley) this was the last year that there is a dual qualification system in place (years ago it was about money only, they bridged in the points system and going forward it is about points only).
3. Non PGA Tour members who made enough money in their starts that would have been good enough to qualify – here we add Jon Rahm (I think he was the only one as Bryson DeChambeau and other college studs failed to earn enough)
4. The Top 25 players after the regular season on the Web.comTour will be on the PGA Tour this upcoming season (including Wesley Bryan who won 3 times on Web tour this summer and got promoted early)
5. The top 25 players in money after this weekend on the Web.comTour’s 4 playoff events
6. there are also a handful of guys on major medical exemptions who have X number of events to make X dollars to keep their cards, each situation is a little unique
7. anyone who has won an event in last 2 years would have received a Tour Card exemption for the following 2 years (this is how Bowditch will still be on tour and a couple others)
8. while not true 2016-17 Tour members, there are exemption criteria to allow career money leaders and past tour event winners into events (this is why Weir, Allenby and a few others get in)
9. and of course there are up to 4 sponsors exemptions awarded each week so we see some local pros, amateurs and recently turned pro top college players
I’ve probably missed some criteria but as you can see, it’s a very well organized mess with about 30 different rules for who has playing rights and then embedded in all that is a priority ranking system which determines which 144-156 guys actually play in a given full-field event. A common misconception is that every guy with a Tour Card can play any week he wants, not true as each player has a priority ranking and guys near the bottom (web tour grads who finished lower in Top 25 for example) may only get into a couple tournaments between now and February because of higher ranked players wanting to get some events in early to accrue Fed Ex points.
Sorry for the long winded post but as you can see, the player pool is large and above that we can see a number of guys who aren’t “true” 2016-17 Tour members playing on a week to week basis as well.
I never addressed this question above……
Tough question, but I feel advantaged here as I actually try to watch some Web tour events so I’m familiar with at least 20 of the 25 new grads and most of the guys who will get the other 25 cards after this weekend. while I don’t know a ton of info about all of them, I may have picked up a few tendencies or trends about some guys – using Web tour stats (which are less in volume versus PGA Tour stats) alone can be misleading as their courses typically yield much lower scoring and more birdies on average. I look for more subtle things like how did the guys do on the weekend (especially Sunday) when in contention or how did the guys who just made their tour cards play the last couple weeks with the big pressure on them. I want guys on DFS team who don’t shoot 77 on Sunday’s ! Another thing I do is look at how these Web guys did on a few of the tougher course events where winning scores are -10 or worse; how many bogies did they make here as I want guys who can grind out pars in tough conditions especially on Sunday’s.
Of course these comments above were based on the “new” players and not the 90-110 guys we see most weeks on Tour. I’ll definitely pick a large percentage of returning players (in relation to rookies) by incorporating readily available info like course history, key stats for this course, etc..and throw in a few new guys as well. Last year we saw Grillo and Kaufman win early in the season when not many people knew who they were so it’s good to have a few rookies in as well – I had Grillo on a couple entries that week he won as I knew his name from being a top amateur years ago competing against Spieth and Fowler.
This probably didn’t help a ton but at this time of the year, it is tough to compare apples to apples when the former Web tour guy or Euro tour player’s info/stats are oranges ;)
Thanks, BIF. Both posts were extremely informational.
