    Sleeper: Streb, Party Marty

I will have Party Marty in a lineup, because I like to party. Like Marty!

However: Robert Streb is the best min-priced gopher out there. (Sorry Richy Werenski, did you fall off a cliff or something?)

And since this is a no-cut event, I’ll have more of Streb in my 5.

Also, I like Joaquin Niemann from the upper middle-class priced area.

Mr. BIF – question for you…with the new timing rules how do you think this effects Bryson if at all?

I don’t think it’ll impact things too much this week as it’s a small field tourney on a pretty open course and they are playing in twosomes so pace should be consistent.

Things may get interesting in a few weeks though…here is a snip from an article on the tougher enforcement:

    ——

The policy had been scheduled to begin back in April at the RBC Heritage, but the COVID-19 pandemic postponed its implementation. The Tour now plans to launch the tougher pace-of-play rules beginning in January at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The new policy changes the Tour’s focus from keeping groups on pace to a system that’s focused on the individual player and includes increased fines for repeat offenders and the addition of what is being called “excessive shot times,” which will identify players who take longer than 120 seconds to hit a shot.

The most dramatic change to the policy will be the creation of an observation list of the Tour’s habitually slow players. The list will include players who take longer than 45 seconds on average to hit a shot, based on ShotLink data. The average will be based on a 10-tournament rolling window, which will allow players to improve their pace.

Players who land on the observation list will be monitored during rounds and will be subject to a 60-second limit for all shots. If a player on the list exceeds 60 seconds they will be individually timed even if their group is not considered out of position.

One “bad time” during a tournament will prompt a warning from officials and a second bad time will result in a one-stroke penalty.

Does anyone play golf on Jock Market?

I see we just have the 25,000 for 130 days of $1 plus. Too bad, that extra 5,000 for the weeks thingy was a nice kicker.

I am going to try for the ironman this year. Do you have to play the weekend and showdown slates to make the ironman? (I am assuming you do but want to make sure)

You have to play something every day so in a typical week you need to:

Thur – play 4-day or Showdown
    Fri – play Showdown
Sat – play Weekend or Showdown
    Sun – play Showdown

You have to play a minimum $1 entry contest – that’s doesn’t mean 4 quarter entries; one entry has to be at least $1

    Saw this on Twitter

World #8 Webb Simpson tested positive for Covid on Dec. 28th and has been self isolating since Dec. 26th. He has no fever or respiratory issues and is following PGA TOUR guidelines; he will arrive on Maui this Wednesday afternoon just in time to play @Sentry_TOC on Thursday.

This was the similar post about Xander

World #6 Xander feels fortunate to be in the field for the @Sentry_TOC after a positive COVID-19 test on December 18th. After battling through mostly fatigue he tested negative just in time to tee it up this week.

Know I should toss Schauffele for Rahm or Bryson, but just can’t do it. Like Landry on low side and agree with the streb value pickers on the forum.

  • eruthruff

I recall several cases where players switched clubs and struggled. Of course, we tend to remember notable cases like that over the boring cases where a player changes clubs and does not struggle. Still, I think I’m off Rahm this week.

As for COVID, I’m thinking that it’s less of big deal this week as many will be coming in a little rusty anyway. And it helps to have confirmation that it wasn’t severe.

Welcome back to golf! So done with the NBA lotto-picking but still playing the NFL one-player-away-from-minimum-cash lol

Glad to see all the interest in the Golf Forum League this early; doesn’t usually happen until the Masters with 116 entered so far in the HM’s

Really glad to see the League Showdown 50/50’s coming up but might as well add round one while we are at it :)

Wondering if some computer-savvy person might want to do a season-long Showdown-Cup points race; probably only need a simple W/L record for everyone

Make sure to keep up with the Beat the Forum thread; next open contest is next week’s Sony Open

And in the Off-Season thread there is a golf survivor contest; anyone have any info on this? Seems legit

    Winner: Kokrak

    Fade: Nobody this week

Bryson is an enigma with me. I really can’t stand the dude, but I can’t come up with a legitimate reason not to fire him up in my single bullet this week. There are two golfers that could run away with this and he’s one of them. Add that to his modest projected ownership and I’m rolling with him.

My bigger dilemma as we approach lock today is figuring out to fade chalk Palmer and Ortiz.

You guys should always enter in a gpp with your lineup, though. Even if it’s only a quarter. Nothing worse than hitting the nuts and only getting $1.80 for it.

Agreed, I don’t understand the psychology behind ONLY entering cash contests unless you are entering enormous amounts with the potential to win enormous amounts and therefore the GPP jackpots don’t hold their normal appeal.

Like, if you are entering 250k everyday in double ups with the potential to earn a 250k profit if everything hits that is one thing.

However, if you are entering $100 per day as a hobby, with the potential to profit $80 or $100 per day, what’s really the point? If you are very lucky/good you might grind out an annual 5-10k profit. Almost inevitably though, you will eventually miss out on a huge score by not also entering you lus into large field GPPs. I wouldn’t be able to ever play DFS again if I missed out on a 100k+ jackpot because I failed to pay $3-5 to enter an lu that hits the nuts into a large field GPP.

Also, cash lines for GPPs these days are actually sometimes lower than 50/50s and double-ups, so I also don’t necessarily think entering cash contests makes sense in 2021. Things were different 10 years ago when you had to do your own research and could easily and consistently cash by having a large edge on the field. Now we all, more or less, have access to the same info and success therefore seems tied more to volume rather than research.

I think the key with those people is that they’re probably more profitable than the folks only chasing big paydays. Would you rather win $5k in a year from boring double-ups, or lose $1k from chasing $100k?

That being said, I have all intentions of also entering my $1 double-up SD Ironman lineups in a $1 single entry or similar GPP.

I’ll also add that I think I’m much worse at SD than full tourney, so the likelihood of my cash SD lineup being the nuts, and wishing I had it in a GPP, is very slim. I do, however, at least have a chance of cashing the cash one.
