    Shell Houston Open
GC of Houston • Humble, TX

Back to golfers we don’t laugh at paying 10k for, and a tournament we can watch and follow live.

Hole by hole breakdown of the course.

Berger injured his wrist in last week’s Match Play loss to Phil Mickelson. Will Play Houston.
I have had many wrist injuries and there is not really such a thing as a minor one. Especially in golf.
    Just an honest warning.

This field is basically the same as a major. You are a Rory, Day, and Scott away from a major field basically. So all these golfers here are pretty good.

I wish you hadn’t said that as I was kinda liking Sergio this week and we know he has not exactly torn up the majors….

That’s not totally true. Obviously he hasn’t won one, but he’s got 20 (!) top-10s in majors. He hasn’t won one, but he’s scared the top of the leaderboard repeatedly in every major.

I know but for his salary and the need in GPP’s to have your guys over-perform (versus under-perform) related to price, I’d need him to Win or solo 2nd.

EDIT – I do really like his fit for the course

Meh. He’s the 9th highest priced player, and it’s much easier to get overperformance out of lower priced players. You can absolutely win even a big GPP this week with Sergio finishing somewhere (slightly) south of solo 2nd. Especially because Sergio tends to be a birdie machine (always top 20 or so in birdie average and par breakers).

UPDATE: Berger (wrist) is in the field for this week’s Shell Houston Open.
ANALYSIS: Berger injured his wrist in last week’s Match Play loss to Phil Mickelson, but the setback will not prevent him from teeing it up this week. Berger showed well at least year’s Houston Open, finishing 25th and eight-under-par.

    3/25/2016 9:28:18 PM EST
UPDATE: Berger conceding his match Thursday at the WGC-Dell Match Play early with a left wrist injury, the PGA Tour reports.
ANALYSIS: Berger had hurt his wrist the previous day when his club struck a rock wall on the downswing while on the 18th hole. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but Berger is not taking any chances with the Masters two weeks away.

Edit: The degree of sprain in those types of injuries are not felt until you wake up the next morning. It can feel more minor that same day, but when you lift it the next morning and the blood hits it. It leaves no doubt the severity of it, and can be 10 times worse than initially thought. Especially in the wrist where you are dealing with 9 bones. It is a slower healing process and if you rush it. You pay for it.

For anyone interested, I just published a blog post on here with my preview of this tournament. I plan on doing one of these every week, so any feedback on how I can improve it would be appreciated. Thanks!

All I know for sure is I’m definitely not putting Tringale on any of my teams.

If you could guarantee me that Sergio Garcia finished solo 6th in this golf tournament at his price, I would take it all day and suggest that my team has a decent chance at a cash.

Yours are wildly unsubstantiated assumptions about not only his recovery, but even what the injury is.

You heard wrist injury and imported onto him judgments not at all in evidence. It’s odd. His body (professional athlete) is not yours. And you have absolutely no idea what his wrist injury was. You’ve used the word sprain repeatedly without substantiation.

So go to town on him I dont care.
Edit: His injury was a sprain that is measured by grades. I wont get into it but sprain is another word for injury.
So it is substantiated. He will not be in one of my 200 lineups.
    Sprain
    verb
    1. wrench or twist the ligaments of (an ankle, wrist, or other joint) violently so as to cause pain and swelling but not dislocation.

With or without a Berger injury, he does not interest me at all this week – his price is too high in my opinion. He is the 19th highest prices player yet does not have a Top 10 this season (2015-16 wraparound season). He only has 1 eagle this season which is disappointing given his length. By comparison, at same price Finau now has a win, one other top 10 plus 5 eagles and a few more birdies in just 1 more competitive round. Kokrak for $100 cheaper also has 5 eagles, more birdies and a 2nd place finish. Scott Brown $200 cheaper has 4 top 10’s is a couple more events as well as 6 eagles. I believe there are much better options at his price to pivot to before the unknown severity of an injury that forced him to pull out of Match Play – not to mention he has the Masters next week.

That’s exactly why I referenced his price on Aces, over there he’s the 63rd ranked golfer.

On the downside, I filled up my allowances early as usual and DK won’t let me in.
On the upside, I liked the lineup so tossed that into some higher buyin stuff, so hopefully it looks pretty when it goes up in flames.

See thats the way I go about picking a sneaky one on DK. I look to see who is very low priced on DK and compare to the price rank on Aces. Chris Kirk payed off recently when he was $6500 on DK and was almost $5000 on Aces. Big price jump

In your case, I’d fade Berger

I have been having problems with my spreadsheet. Can anyone share with me how you rank current form and turny form in there spreadsheet?
Do you give a number value to cuts? a different value for events they did not play?

any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I assign cuts a 100th place in fields where a number matters, and as a cut in other fields (like weekend %)
