Can we get it out of the way and discuss the elephant in the room, Stake Kings?

Is there a difference between lineup selling and crowdfunding?

I get it but I’m not sure how well this is going to go over.

yes i hope you win too, and i hope you enjoy donating to help these guys mass enter contests more than they already are

Hey if you can’t beat em, join em.

  • mambaland

no different than the big guys all teaming up to mass entry…i know a guy who once had 6 investors in his lineups…he had then all create accounts with their own ssn and deposit via their own bank but he then helped them manage their accounts and lineups..much like a stock investor

  • StakeKings

Hey everyone, if you purchased a piece of “stlcardinals84” from StakeKings you will see the transaction in your “Transaction History” section, which is located in your “PROFILE” section. Also, you will now see the package located in your “My Stakes” section as well. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact our live chat support on StakeKings.com (blue circle in the bottom right of the site) – we are there to help you 24/7. Good luck to everyone who bought action tonight!

the other elephant in the room is that they advertise total winnings much like the old FD commercials..they have no mention of NET winnings…if i spend 100 and win 50 i can say i won 50…same false advertising as sites used to use. I had never heard of it till now so not a big elephant..just looked at it..says sponsored by rotogrinders

Online poker did crowdfunding and we all know what happen to online poker now don’t we

That had nothing to do with staking.

  • mambaland

i have never heard of more than one of the PRO guys on that site and assume i know most of them who would be on a place like that…pretty much another way to take advantage of people IMO

I don’t see a problem with it in the abstract. In theory staking can be an equalizer rather than exacerbating existing inequalities. Grinding takes a while; staking can be a way for a small bankroll player to take shots at big wins without making a poor financial decision. The variance of playing GPPs is ridiculously high, and staking can be a boon for the small and medium-time player. It can also be a fun way to get friends and family in on the sweat. Ideally there would be a platform for smaller stakers instead of this “buy into one pro” thing—that is off-putting for sure but to me not a reason to want to ban staking.

I don’t agree with lpdev; If you enter a high-buyin GPP with a single entry you have to expect to be facing people with bigger bankrolls than you. You could just as easily argue that it would make the staked player play more conservatively because they don’t want to lose other people’s money. Bankroll is an inherently unequal proposition as some people bring lots of disposable income to the table and others are playing with scraps. Staking is not making any appreciable difference in this dynamic.

Also, staking is not currently prohibited by DraftKing’s Community Guidelines. I think you could reasonably argue that the last entry under “Acceptable Behaviors” implicitly prohibits staking a player in a contest where you are also playing. But there’s nothing about the case where you’re not playing the same contest.

Finally, I’ll say that we could probably learn a lot from the dynamics of staking in poker, where there is a mature marketplace for staking. And to pre-empt “dur, look what happened to online poker”: that had nothing to do with staking.

Well said! Thanks for this post. Once again, the intent here is to give people an opportunity at a sweat. Pumped that so many people got to give this a try tonight and best of luck to everyone involved!

The pros listed in the “search filter” are just the pros who have packages in the marketplace currently. We work with hundreds of the biggest poker pros in the world, and our site is very particular about the people who are approved to sell action to the public. That being said, if you have only heard of one of the pros currently listed then I would assume you are not a big poker fan, which is fine – because a few of the pros listed are some of the most well known players in the world right now (Antonio Esfandiari, Doug Polk, Jeff Gross etc). Feel free to contact our live support if you have further questions about any of the players, the site, or anything else.

I think you missed the point of my post. I’m not concerned with individual people having larger bankrolls than me. I’m concerned about the direct impact that staking can have on everyone that plays DFS. My first point was that staking can potential impact the way the pro player is playing. If all of a sudden stlcardinals84 increases his volume dramatically because of crowd sourcing, that impacts me. If 100 people buy stakes in stlcardinals84 instead of putting that money in their own lineups, that impacts me. I’m sure stlcardinals84 has quite a bankroll and it may not impact his play at all. I highly doubt all the people that put money on his lineups, pulled that money from a separate source that doesn’t impact their personal DFS play.

    Just hearing about this now….

Is StakeKings in any way affiliated with Stlcards?

What does Stlcards have to gain from this? I’m not privy to his financials but I’ve seen quite a number of impressive screenshots on his twitter feed this season from MLB.

All of the pros you see listed on our site are for poker right now, not Fantasy Sports. Currently, the only Fantasy Sports pro/package available is “stlcardinals84”

Sigh… I don’t think this is a positive thing for DFS and am disappointed to see RG back this. I’ve cancelled my RotoGrinders Premium membership for this reason. I have held a subscription for a few years because I support the RG community (I don’t really use any of the Premium tools). Not that my $25/month donation amounts to all that much. There wasn’t a box to explain why I cancelled so I’ll post it here. I recommend adding a reason for leaving box for cancelled subscriptions.

I actually like this idea and hope STLCards does this for golf too. I have realized I am terrible at building golf lineups but still like having a reason to follow each tournament so I would gladly just pay to piggy back off someone else’s lineups vs wasting time building my own losing lineups.

  • rysportguy

Anyone have a link for this contest? Trying to follow along but I don’t think draftkings android app has the ability to see live contests I’m not in. Every time I try to go non mobile it pushes me to the mobile app.

That will be an interesting watch but in the meantime ride the wave. The more I think about this idea the more I like it. Now that I have babies in the house I am having less and less time for sports and DFS. This could be a way for me to still have skin in the DFS game without having to put any time or effort into it. This is way better than resorting to lineup sellers.
